The director of the indie hit Drink Companions, Joe Swanberg, is releasing the dramedy Happy Christmas in the middle of the summer, starring Anna Kendrick, who has previously worked with the director. The film, which bears little resemblance to the classic joyful Christmas story, tells the story of twenty-year-old party-goer Jenny (Anna Kendrick), who, after breaking up with her boyfriend, is forced to move to Chicago with her director brother Jeff (played by Swanberg himself), his wife, aspiring writer Kelly (Melanie Lynskey) and their two-year-old son (played by Svanberg's little son Jude). Jenny drinks a lot and enters into a relationship with a guy who works as their nanny, at the same time selling weed (Mark Webber). Thanks to her and her friend Carson (Lena Dunham), Kelly gradually comes to the conclusion that she needs to change something in her life, career and relationships for further development and happiness. Svanberg's new tape may not be able to replicate the success of Drink Companions (not all reviews at Sundance were positive). The film will be released in the US on July 25.
