An important event in the fashion world took place yesterday - the presentation of the annual CFDA Awards. The fact that the Council of Fashion Designers of America recognized Rihanna as a "Fashion Icon" for the influence that her style has on the fashion world and society became known long before the event, but there were still some surprises at the award ceremony. Rihanna, known for her daring choice of clothes and the fact that she is not afraid to show off her bare breasts, came to the ceremony in a transparent dress by the young American designer Adam Selman. The dress, complemented by matching gloves and a headdress and a fur boa, was covered in crystals and left no room for imagination. “The point is to be cocky… while remaining true to yourself,” said Anna Wintour, who presented her with the award, of the singer's style.
As for other awards, Joseph Altuzarra became the best designer of womens clothing, bypassing nine-time winner of the Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang awards. The Best Menswear Designer award went to Maxwell Osborne and Public School's Tao-Yi Chu. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were voted Top Accessory Designers. The Emerging Designer Awards, also known as the Swarovski Award, went to Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind for womenswear, Todd Snyder for menswear, and Irene Neuwirth for accessories. Tom Ford received the award for his contribution to the development of fashion. Raf Simons was named the best foreign designer of the year.
