Ten years later, Nike is releasing the Zvezdochka sneaker, designed by industrial designer Mark Newson. When creating sneakers, Newson thought about astronauts, and they are named after the Soviet dog Zvezdochka, which flew into space in 1961. The shoe was modeled on a computer and consists of four interlocking, interchangeable parts: an outer mesh, an attached outsole, a flexible inner sole that fits snugly around the foot, and an inner sole with a Zoom Air unit for cushioning. They can be worn all together or in different ways.

Nike released the Zvezdochka sneaker in five colors in 2004 in a limited edition. In 2010, the brand released a new version of the sneaker. Beginning December 29, the Zvezdochka sneaker, made in five original colors, will be available again in select NikeLab stores as well as on the NikeLab website.
