Sooner or later, even the most beloved interior can get bored. If there is no opportunity and strength to make a full-fledged repair, well-known techniques come to the rescue - change the pillows on the furniture, throw a new blanket on the sofa and change the curtains. But what if all these options have been tried, and you are itching to do everything? We asked designers and architects about interesting and non-trivial ways to freshen up the home environment - and, if possible, get by with little money.

Have you noticed for yourself that it is worth completing the repair, and after a while you want to update, improve, or alter it altogether? Surely yes. If you've tried changing pillows, curtains, or repainting walls, and you still have the feeling that something is missing, these tips will be helpful to you.

A bored sofa or armchair is very easy to update by changing the upholstery. Choose a bright plain fabric for the sofa, and an unobtrusive print for the armchair, and your interior will sparkle with new colors. Repaint or replace the skirting boards and trims, make them contrasting with the door leaf and walls. Create with your children! Take brushes, pencils or felt-tip pens and paint on the wallpaper. You can easily update the interior (albeit for a short time), and your children will love it. And the annoying cover with drawings is very easy to replace by re-gluing the wallpaper.

Don't forget the little things. Doors or kitchen fronts can be refurbished by simply replacing the handles. More colors! Paint the window slopes in a contrasting color to the walls. Remove one top cabinet in the kitchen and replace it with open shelves; on them you can place jars of spices, small houseplants and utensils. Most importantly, do not be afraid of change, change the interior as often as you want, do not avoid color and experiment!

The easiest and fastest way to renovate an interior is paint. But repainting the walls in a neutral shade is boring. Experiment: make one accent wall or a colored ceiling. Create a print using two colors of paint and masking tape. By the way, dark ceilings, contrary to popular belief, make the room taller. Or, focus on furniture - repaint old chairs in bright colors. One picture or large poster can save an entire room. Place a large canvas on the floor or hang it over the sofa area. Get inspired by Pollock and create your own masterpiece of contemporary art.

A high plinth, like a high cornice, makes the interior more noble. They frame the space. With the help of a molding or a wooden plank, you can enlarge an existing skirting board and paint everything together in a color contrasting with the floor (white is the easiest option). The same applies to the ceiling cornice, it can be "built up" in the same way. The interior will only benefit if the color of the plinth matches the color of the door trim. Old cupboards, doors and even kitchens can be just as easily transformed with moldings and wood trims on the facades. Replace pens and paint or paint. Try to remove the wallpaper and expose the old plaster. If desired, it can be tinted with a brush and diluted paint in the desired shade.

Resonate the space, create an additional "place of power", for example, a false fireplace. On the Internet, you can find many ways to make it from any materials. Aside from being overly creative, drywall is an inexpensive and proven material. Lower the chandeliers below, they will illuminate your face beautifully and visually raise the ceiling. It is better to do this over the dining table, sofa group - where they do not interfere with movement. If you can't grow the wire nicely, put a textile cover over it.Techniques in the interior, competently borrowed from the classics, never hurt.

One of my favorite techniques in architecture for me is working with light. Unfortunately, in most of the apartments we live in, the solutions are standard: a chandelier in the center of the ceiling and a couple of standardized windows. The situation is easily fixable: by changing the lighting in the apartment, you can completely transform the space. It's easier to start with artificial lighting. An easy but costly way is to buy a couple of floor lamps and table lamps. If you're on a budget, look out for the long fluorescent tubes available from Leroy Merlin or any major hardware store. They can be placed on the floor against walls or other horizontal surfaces (dressers or tables), or placed vertically in a corner. A more time consuming but no less effective way is to hang these long lights on cables by attaching them to the ceiling hooks. If you use fabric wire, you get a nice designer lamp.

You can enhance the effect using mirrors. If you have shelves or open shelves in your home, place small mirrors against their inner walls, and put long fluorescent lamps at the base. The same works with conventional floor mirrors. Since it is not as laborious and expensive as buying furniture or repainting walls, do not be afraid to experiment: use colored lamps or apply colored film to a flat lamp, get garlands or stick LED strips on horizontal surfaces. If the budget allows, you can replace ordinary lamps with LED ones that can change color - the effect will be fabulous. The main principle that must be followed in order to change the situation is to do the opposite. If you have a chandelier with warm light, use lamps with cold light, if most of the lamps are on the ceiling, put the lamps on the floor or on low furniture.

It's harder to make a difference with natural daylight. In addition to the obvious curtains or colored blinds, colored glass can come to the rescue. I really like the effect of colored windows: it is simple and effective, it is cost-effective and easy to change. Remember, you were probably in interiors with colored glass, for example, in the already defunct Solyanka. I was always fascinated by how her yellow windows changed the feeling of the interior: even the light from a mobile phone or the light of a lighter took on a purple hue.

This effect is easy to achieve at home. Buy large colored film. It can be easily cut with a clerical knife to the desired size and fixed on the glass: your room will transform and change color, without the need to repaint the walls. In addition, after a while, you can replace the color with another one or remove it altogether if you get bored.

The best way to freshen up your interior is to get rid of unnecessary items. Try not to clutter up the space with travel souvenirs, non-functional items, and other dust collectors. They not only crush the room, but also interfere with cleaning and life. Undoubtedly, the decor plays a special role: for example, you can hang a large picture or a poster above the sofa, which will be dominant and visually add volume to the room. This trick also works with small interiors.

Particular attention should be paid to the arrangement of furniture. Do not occupy space in the center of the room: it is better to place furniture along the walls and in the corners. It should be functional and simple in form, and if it does not match the walls and floor in color, then it should not contrast. We recommend repainting the walls in one color - it can be pastel or juicy, it all depends on your taste and mood. Bright colors can be made using textiles: bedspreads, pillows, curtains, carpet.

It is interesting to beat the interior with lighting and additional lighting. We like it when the space is softly enveloped, as if wrapped in a shawl. To achieve this effect, use indirect, diffused light, or position the light source at eye level. These can be floor lamps, sconces, table lamps or LED strip in a hidden box.

A good tool with which you can always visually push the walls apart is mirrors. In addition, they make the room brighter and brighter by reflecting natural and artificial light. Visually, the ceiling can be raised using verticals along the walls, a strip of wallpaper or painting on masking tape. Here, perhaps, it all depends on the premises and your capabilities.

Even in the coolest and most thoughtful interior, it gets boring from time to time. And in order not to become a victim of impulsive purchases at IKEA, "because these vases are so cute", adhere to the simple rules for decorating your home, which we use in each of our projects.

Light is perhaps number one on any list. A lonely pale light bulb or a lonely chandelier hanging from the ceiling can kill any, even the most successful interior - just like a pair of floor lamps in different corners of a room can change the atmosphere beyond recognition. If you find a place for a table lamp with a massive base, it means that you have a coffee table or a console, and this is already a decent interior, even if everything is made of chipboard.

Mirrors. Place a large framed mirror on the floor or hang a round one on the wall above the dresser. Whatever you do with a mirror is almost always a safe bet. Avoid plastic frames - this is probably the only condition.

Plants. Sometimes even a few branches of eucalyptus, which can be bought in most flower shops for 150 rubles, can cool the space. And if you pick up a beautiful flower pot and plant something alive in it, then the interior will surely get a breath of fresh air - literally and figuratively.

Flea markets are also a good way to make your apartment more interesting. Of course, antiques are expensive, but before 1950 the Soviet industry produced a lot of quality items, so prices are usually low. Once we saw a nice typewriter for a hundred rubles. These things are boring to our parents, but you and I will seem very interesting.

And last but not least on the list, posters or photographs. Even the most fashionable ones will cost around 3 thousand rubles. The British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art have made a total of about 70,000 old prints and photographs publicly available. If you are even a little bit friends with technology, you can download and print them for 50–70 rubles per copy.
