In Belarus, a social and sports project “Zdolnaya” was launched, the purpose of which is to motivate women to go in for sports and provide a comfortable environment in which athletes will not feel the pressure of gender stereotypes. “We want every woman to have the opportunity to engage in any kind of sports without any restrictions, and during classes she was not afraid that the group would evaluate her appearance, social status or discriminate against her on any other basis,” the authors of the project write. Its name is translated from Belarusian as “Capable”.
On the Zdolnaya website, you can sign up for free lessons in basketball, reggaeton and longboarding, which will be held in the coming weeks, later the organizers plan to include karate, football and boxing in the program. The project invites volunteers and trainers to cooperate, and also accepts donations for the development of the program.
In addition to training, Zdolnaya organizes joint viewing of broadcasts of women's competitions, for example, the performance of the Belarusian national basketball team at the Olympic Games in Rio. The authors of the project also invite participants to share their photos from workouts "without retouching, advantageous poses and expensive sports brands, which are often inaccessible to the average Belarusian." These pictures are posted in a special section on the site so that they can inspire other women to start exercising.
