To significantly save on travel, You can always stay in a hostel, but at the same time you often have to sacrifice personal space, your own ideas about cleanliness and the opportunity to sleep. In the past few years, hostels have noticeably evolved, and those that have opened relatively recently are an order of magnitude more comfortable than the veterans of the genre. There was even a hybrid of a hostel and a hotel, for especially impressive examples of which a special term was coined - poshtels (derived from posh and hostels).

We've picked ten noteworthy new hostels to go to this fall for the price of a budget hotel. Some of them show how poshtel should be, others are still somewhat true to traditions. In any case, the atmosphere of a student hostel, which kept everything in classic hostels, is rather rare in them.

Mojo Hotel

Cape Town

The "hotel" in the name is an exaggeration: after all, as long as there are dorms in a hotel-type establishment, it remains a hostel. Mojo has dorms and private rooms of varying degrees of spaciousness. The hostel's trump card is a large roof terrace; an invaluable bonus when you have mountain and ocean views. The hostel is located on the outskirts, but in the case of Cape Town, the outskirts are not only not bad, but even good. The distance to the city center is five kilometers, there is no problem with transport, and you can rent a bike from the hostel. And to get to the ocean, you just need to leave the hostel and walk a hundred meters.

Dorm room prices start at 13 euros. Rooms cost from 43 euros for a single to 126 euros for a room for four people. In terms of privacy, there is one specific minus: in some double rooms, the toilet is located directly in the space of the studio room and is separated from it only by a partition, but not by a door. Obviously, the owners of Mojo believe that close people have nothing to hide from each other - it is not clear how else to explain such an original solution. If you do not share their point of view, be vigilant when booking. Judging by the reviews, first of all, you need to be wary of the rooms for two located on the roof of the hostel, but it is worth clarifying in advance if there is such an experimental layout in other rooms.

King Kong Hostel

Rotterdam

The house, which is occupied by the Rotterdam King Kong Hostel, which received the title of the best in the Netherlands from Hostelworld, has a loud past: at various times it housed an underground casino, a tattoo parlor and a brothel. The owner of the hostel is clearly not a layman in terms of promoting establishments - his own bar De Witte Aap has about 10 thousand likes on Facebook and the status of no less than the best bar in the world in 2009 according to Lonely Planet. It is most likely a matter of attention to detail. King Kong has a movie room where you can watch Netflix on a big screen, besides bicycles they rent skateboards and scooters, and the owners say about Wi-Fi that it is not just fast, but "faster than Usain Bolt".

Well, and something completely already from the field of luxury - aromatherapy was involved in creating the atmosphere, not without the help of a hostel-friendly company that fragrances hotels and shops around the world (the boudoir spirit that Moscow Uterqüe stores spread is their job). A night in the dorm starts from 22 euros, for a separate room with a double bed you will have to pay about 90 euros. True, private rooms in this hostel are almost never vacant. You need to book not just in advance, but a couple of months in advance - so if you plan to go on a trip for the November holidays, it's time to think about it.

Generator Hostel

Copenhagen

Generator Copenhagen is beautiful, like all Generator hostels, and huge: six floors, a terrace of 4 thousand square meters, 176 rooms, singles and dorms, and a total of more than three hundred beds. Even in spite of this capacity, it is usually packed to capacity.Firstly, you cannot imagine a better location - it is located between the Kongens Nytorv and Nörreport metro stations, next to Nyhavn and Kings Square. Secondly, this hostel is really nice to be in. The hostel project was developed by Philippe Starck, and from time to time some design elements change here - for example, hammocks have recently appeared in the lounge area.

In terms of comfort, everything is in order here too. Each room, including dorms, has its own shower and toilet, and dorms for eight people have two toilets and two showers. The lounge is very large with a bar and table football. There is also a petanque court with another bar. Quite often, the hostel hosts parties with DJs. Tourists in the reviews mostly complain only about the lack of a kitchen and the fact that you cannot bring food to the hostel. But, given the Copenhagen prices, let your guests save money - and the hostel's restaurant would not last long.

3 Ducks hostel

Paris

From 3 Ducks you can walk to the Eiffel Tower in twenty-five minutes and in about the same bike ride to the Louvre. For metro lovers, there are three stations nearby. There is a bar on the ground floor of the hostel, but locals like it so much that by evening they prevail here. Some of the guests of the hostel are glad that thanks to this, on the very first day, they can get to know a bunch of Parisians, someone complains that locales are crowding out travelers. The bar here is a fly in the ointment: the category of guests who, in principle, do not really need a bar in the hostel, complains that it is not always possible to sleep in 3 Ducks.

Breakfast here is free, not very generous, but considering the Parisian prices, little is better than nothing. Prices for a bed in the dorm start at € 30, a private double room costs € 90, and for four people it costs 144. The hostel features worth mentioning: a patio that best describes the word "Sharman" and a spiral staircase in one of the dorms - you should be careful with her.

Book and Bed

Tokyo

Book and Bed could be on the list of the strangest hostels in the world. A night here, in terms of yen to European currency, will cost 20-30 euros. It is not without reason that the “Book” in the name stands before “Bed”: apparently, everything in this hostel is focused precisely on the fact that every visitor, without being distracted by anything, could go into reading with his head for at least a few days, and a place to sleep provided in case someone reads and misses the subway or even the plane. You can come here just like in a paid library - the hostel has a day booking option. That means five hours of reading in the most relaxed atmosphere at half price.

There can be problems with sleep. Sleep capsules are essentially wooden boxes built into the inside of bookshelves that look quite cramped. In addition, in such a capsule, a person is isolated from all sides - so those who are even slightly claustrophobic are likely to be very uncomfortable. True, the capsules are ventilated and illuminated - each has a lamp and an internal air conditioner. An important detail: cash is not accepted at the hostel, and even not any card will work - you can only pay with Visa and MasterCard.

SoHostel

London

First of all, it must be said about SoHostel that its owners also have a charitable project - a hostel, or rather, the Arlington homeless shelter. Arlington is a 95-room residence that also socializes the homeless and helps them acquire the skills to find work in the future. At the SoHostel itself there is a Coffee Club cafe with very humane prices by London standards - the proceeds from sales there go to Arlington. Soon, another cafe on the roof will start working in the hostel.

For a bed in the dorm, they charge 25 pounds, for a separate twin or double - 55 pounds per room. From time to time there are concerts in the hostel that start at seven in the evening and hardly interfere with someone's sleep. True, this cannot be said with certainty about the karaoke parties with alcohol prizes taking place on Fridays. On the other hand, a person who, between sleep and the opportunity, swinging a beer glass, sing "Wonderwall", will choose the former, or at least will not be able to understand and forgive those who chose the latter, it is probably better to stay in ordinary hotels.

Wallyard concept

Hostel

Berlin

Possibly the most beautiful hostel in Berlin, close to the Tiergarten. Prices for a place in the dormitory start at 12 euros, double costs from 20 euros per person, but these prices are most likely relevant several times a year. In summer, they can be multiplied by two at once: a double, for example, will cost from 80 euros for two, and it is impossible to book it on the eve of the trip - double rooms in this hostel are dismantled as soon as they can be tracked in the booking systems.

Having worked their best on the beauty guidance, the guys from Wallyard have erected a multi-layered system of protection against those who are most likely to destroy it all. Therefore, reservations will be denied to guys who decide to throw a bachelor party, groups of schoolchildren and, in general, any companies of more than eight people. About the latter, the rules say that attempts to cheat by making several separate reservations are doomed to failure - everyone will be calculated and the reservation will be canceled.

Satellite

Moscow

A hostel was opened on Bolshaya Dmitrovka last year, which could be equal not only to Russian, but, perhaps, many European hostels: everything is very beautiful, the design is refined to the utmost, successful naming, and the hostel staff does not forget to respond to every review. Plus, Sputnik can help foreign guests with visa support for little money. Accommodation prices for Moscow are also low: a bed in a six-bed dorm costs 1200 rubles, a double room will cost 3700 rubles, regardless of whether one person or a couple is staying in it. The triple room has a double bed, and the third person is given a mezzanine with a sleeping place hidden behind curtains. Children should be delighted with these mezzanines: they resemble a tree house.

The dorms have double beds, a projector in the common space, free coffee, tea and biscuits. The only thing that is mentioned in the reviews as a minus is that the hostel is too calm and there is no socialization in the classic hostel style. But this is one of the fundamental differences between what is designated by the term poshtel and traditional hostels (and "Sputnik" is quite drawn to the title of poshtel).

Mahjong Hostel

Hong Kong

The hostel is located in one of the few districts of Hong Kong that have not yet been overgrown with skyscrapers and turned into one continuous business center. It is mostly low-rise buildings dating back to the 60s, full of small family restaurants and popular local food markets. There are no private rooms in Mahjong, and it may seem that the prices are high, but Hong Kong, in principle, is not a cheap place. Regular places in dorms cost from 40 euros per night, double bed - from 90 euros.

Rooms with double beds have their own toilet and shower. Local niches for sleeping, unlike the capsules in Tokyo's Book and Bed, can cause anxiety, except for the possibility of banging your head on their ceiling. They are quite spacious, with ladders on the top shelf, like on a train, and you can isolate yourself from those around you by lowering the curtain (though slightly translucent). The hostel has its own patio with a small bar and a bunch of plants. Plants seem to be generally loved here - there is something ficus-like in the tubs in the corridors and in the lounge area.

St Cristopher's Hostel

Barcelona

Like Generator, St Cristopher's is a hostel chain across Europe. Barcelona is located very well, fifty meters from the Plaza de Catalunya. Breakfast is free here, in addition, in the evening they will pour sangria and treat you to tapas, and in a nearby restaurant guests of the hostel get a 25% discount. At the reception you can buy tickets to local clubs, and also with a discount. Activities in the hostel include table football, billiards and ping-pong.

Of the entire list, St Cristopher's is the most loyal to backpacker tourists. Therefore, if you still want to know what hostel romance is, but would not like to dive into it head over heels, then this is a suitable option. There are also separate rooms in St Cristopher's, so you can watch this very romance carefully, without risking finding a stranger in your bed who has confused his dorm with yours. Prices in dorms start at 30 euros, a double room costs about 170 euros, and a 6-8-bed private room costs about 280 euros for the whole room. For some reason, you can't pay with American Express - the rest are accepted.
