The new issue of the acclaimed avant-garde fashion magazine i-D is fully dedicated to women working in the fashion industry and other fields that shape contemporary culture and its future: photographers, models, designers, activists, actresses and artists.
All the shootings in the new issue, titled "Female Gaze" (as opposed to the concept of male gaze), were made by female photographers: Harley Weir, Petra Collins, Zoe Gertner, Letty Schmitterlaw and others worked on the issue. The heroine of the cover is British model and activist Adwoa Aboah, the founder of the feminist community Gurls Talk, dedicated to mental health, fighting stereotypes, self-development and other difficult topics.
28 young London designers - including Simone Rocha, Martha Almeida, Sophia Webster and Astrid Anderson - and 22 famous models who told the magazine about how their sense of self in the profession was changing, also became the heroines of the issue. For the new episode, Girls' star Zosia Mamet interviewed Patti Smith, Petra Collins compiled a list of women who inspire her in her work and life, and Lena Dunham talked to her mother about how important the relationship between mother and daughter is. A separate material is dedicated to Lincy Addario, an American war photographer who received the Pulitzer Prize. Addario documented the service of female marines and special female combat units, was captured by Gaddafi soldiers and published an autobiography.
