The BBC has published a rating of the best films of the XXI century, compiled on the recommendations of film critics from around the world: the best film created after 2000, experts recognized the psychological thriller by David Lynch "Mulholland Drive", the second place went to the art-house Hong Kong film "In the Mood of Love" by Wong Karwai and the third - the epic drama Oil by Paul Thomas Anderson.

According to the authors of the initiative, they were prompted to compile a list of "new classics" by discussions about the "death of cinema" in its classical sense, blockbusters and new patterns of video content consumption. The list of the best films of all time, which the BBC published in 2015, included only six films created in the 21st century, which seemed amazing to the authors of the rating. “If, due to the flow of box office blockbusters, you do not notice real masterpieces, then you are not watching well,” the BBC website says.

The top ten films also included Spirited Away (Hayao Miyazaki, 2001), Boyhood (Richard Linklater, 2014), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michelle Gondry, 2004), The Tree of Life (Terrence Malik, 2011), One and Two (Edward Yang, 2000), Nader and Simin's Divorce (Asghar Farhadi, 2011), and No Country for Old Men (Joel and Ethan Coens, 2007). A complete list can be found here.

Upd.: Jezebel noted that in the list of the best films of the XXI century, only 12 were shot by women. Among the critics who were entrusted with compiling the list were 31% women - with the majority of female critics named Carway's Mood for Love as the best film, and Mulholland Drive ranked second.
