WE TELL ABOUT TRENDS FROM THE PODIUM, which you can adapt to your wardrobe for the next six months. Bright leather jackets with voluminous shoulders, special boots, rivets, leather trousers - in the new season, motorsport, or rather, its paraphernalia, reigns supreme. We figure out how this whole arsenal came into fashion and what to wear with all these things.
How it all began
Subcultural elements are a favorite theme of fashion designers. The trend, which in gloss goes under the heading "biker girlfriend", which means rivets, leather jackets, spikes and other elements, returns to the trend list every autumn-winter season. However, this time we are talking about the inspiration of the sport itself - motorcycle racing with its own, easily recognizable attributes. An example to follow here is not just a "biker girl", but one who is ready to get behind the wheel herself, challenge in a race or go on a motorcycle trip.
It is such a woman - the independent and freedom-loving Rebecca, played by Marianne Faithfull - that can be seen in Motorcyclist, released in '68. Pulling a leather suit over her naked body, she sets off to meet a new life that is not destined to happen. But the very fact of the appearance of such a heroine is important: in most films about racers or bikers, women rarely come to the fore - most often they get the role of "number two". And there is a simple explanation for this.
The whole culture of motorsport is masculine through and through, and this is inevitably accompanied by an equally vigorous sexism. Motorcycles have long been considered an exclusively "man's business", and girls behind the wheel were seen as an exception. Actually, a girl on a motorcycle is a bright cliche, which scriptwriters often resort to, wanting to show the strength, "courage" and exclusivity of a girl. You can remember at least the heroine of Uma Thurman in "Kill Bill" or Catwoman. But everything is gradually changing, girls more and more often sit on a bike, unite in moto communities and conduct motoblogs, winning the role of a subject, not an object of desire. And the designers, of course, couldn't ignore it.
How the motorcycle crew came into fashion
For several seasons in a row, the theme of motorsport has been manifested in one way or another in Nicolas Ghesquière's collections for Louis Vuitton. Skin-tight trousers in several color blocks were seen in the pre-fall-2016 collection, and heavy biker jackets in the resort-2016. But still, the current collection of the brand became the apogee: here a direct reference to the very tight jumpsuit, which easily mimics the form of professional athletes, was already used.
The jumpsuit itself - almost the most comfortable wardrobe item - has appeared on the autumn-winter catwalks an indecently large number of times. There are plenty to choose from: designers offer a variety of options, from classic evening and deliberately sexy (for example, with lacing) to those that openly refer us, in fact, to the uniform of motorcyclists - tight like a second skin, like Lacoste, Yeezy or Diesel Black Gold.
However, motorsport in the new season is not only about quotes in the forehead. The most remarkable and delicate collection inspired by the theme was shown by Chloé. Their main source of inspiration is the adventurous and multi-talented girl An-France Dotville, who traveled around the world on a motorcycle in the 70s. The era loved by the designer of the brand Claire Veit Keller is presented in a new interpretation: leather suits, jackets with pockets, and even characteristic overalls look unbroken and interesting.
What to wear with
In all honesty, this trend is difficult to apply for the conditions of the Russian winter, which means that it is worth taking it into service right now - as long as the weather permits. If you have little idea of how you can spend the whole day in a tight leather jumpsuit, opt for one, small element. For example, a leather skirt with an appliqué in the form of tongues of flame (this will look cool with any loose shirt) or specialized boots that can be worn with suits or loose dresses.
Bright motorcycle jackets will suit those who are looking for a leather jacket in the spirit of the times. If you don't want to spend an incredible amount of money on it, you should take a closer look at well-known specialized sites like Avito, where you can buy everything in the world, or try your luck at second-hand shops.
