Citing industry insiders, The Guardian writes that director George Miller is already working on a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, which will focus on the life of the warrior Furiosa. As in Fury Road, the warrior-turned-feminist icon will be played by Charlize Theron. Miller had said he wanted to tell Furiosa's story back in January, but then he doubted it should be a massive project comparable to Fury Road.

The reboot of the Mad Max franchise struggling to survive in the post-apocalyptic wilderness was a big success for Miller: the blockbuster won six Oscars, good reviews and grossed 378 million at the box office. This is largely due to the film's non-trivial "female line": in her speech at the MTV Movie Awards, where Theron won the prize for the female lead, the actress noted that the plot of "Mad Max" is based on the story of women who make important decisions and control their destiny. Theron dedicated the award to her daughter and "all Furios, true fighters."

In this video, Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy and George Miller talk about the warrior Furiosa and those few details of her biography that we learned from the film: kidnapped as a child from a women's commune in the Green Lands, who lost her hand and became the warlord of the Immortal Joe, Furiosa frees the tyrant's wives and takes them to his homeland, hoping for atonement for their sins. Miller describes her as "almost desperate," but still defying fate, a real warrior, ready to give up a relatively comfortable life for the sake of truth and justice.
