From 6 to 9 October, the first Russian film festival dedicated to people with mental disabilities will take place at the Moscow Documentary Film Center. The program "Doku-Mental" includes fiction and documentary films, examining from different angles the acute question of "normality": who are "normal" people? How do those who differ from the majority and perceive the world around them differently live and adapt to "normal life"? How to establish communication between "abnormal" and "normal" people?

The CDK will show two classic films that everyone will be pleased to see - "Rain Man" and "Forrest Gump" - and seven non-fiction works from Russia, Europe and the United States. The organizers note that Hollywood's optimistic view of people with mental disabilities does not pass the reality test: not all people with autism have extraordinary talents in mathematics or photographic memory, and in life most of them find it much more difficult than Forrest Gump. In the documentary program "Doku-Mental" - Russian "If I was" and "Why am I here" about the life and hobbies of children with autism, as well as films from the UK, Sweden, the USA and Canada, each of which tells about real heroes from special perception of the world. One of the films is dedicated to the legend of British new wave Gary Newman, who built a musical career despite his unstable psyche and possible Asperger's syndrome.

After each screening, an open discussion will take place in the hall, in which viewers, together with famous film critics and psychiatrists, will be able to analyze the characters of the characters and their perception of the world around them. Film critics Anton Dolin and Andrey Plakhov, our regular author Alisa Tayozhnaya and other experts have confirmed their participation in the project.
