For the first time, Understanding the Comics is published in Russian - a study that has already become a classic, itself written (and drawn) in a comic book format. McCloud released his book in the early 1990s, but it has not become outdated since then: the author examines how comics work, how we read information from them, how their visual language works, and so on. Perhaps this description sounds a little academic, but in fact, "Understanding the Comic" is both a very simple and deep book. It is more like a gripping documentary exploring the intricacies of one art form than an abstruse exploration. It is worth reading if you do not understand anything in comics and have never picked them up, and even if, on the contrary, you are sure that you know everything about them. After Understanding the Comics, you'll never look at Spider-Man, Tintin, and Hellboy the same way again.
