Facebook building is famous all over the world primarily as an alternative to plastic surgery and various anti-aging programs. This is another way to maintain skin tone and elasticity for a long time through active training of the facial muscles. We figure out what it is and how to properly "sculpt" your face.
What it is
The word "face building" is heard only in Russia, while foreigners know about fitness, gymnastics and even yoga for the face. Their essence is the same: these are sets of exercises that can strengthen muscles, smooth the skin and make it more elastic, as well as provide better control over facial expressions. The first written mention of facial aerobics is found in 1710 in a self-care pamphlet by Jeanne Sauval. Sauval was the personal assistant of Madame Ninon de Lanclos, a French writer known for her extraordinary attractiveness, which, according to the stories of her contemporaries, she managed to preserve until her death at the age of 89. The brochure contained the main secrets of Ninon's youth and beauty, including a description of physical exercises for the face.
Facial aerobics continued to evolve in the early 1900s when Bennett Sanford published his legendary book, Exercising in Bed. It talked about the exercises that need to be done in bed immediately after waking up. By the age of 50, Sanford had acquired a huge number of chronic diseases, which made him look much older - his system helped to cope with the latter. The complex included, among other things, elements similar to those that are now used in Facebook building programs.
In the years that followed, the popularity of facial exercises gained momentum. Women's magazines and newspapers tirelessly talked about different training methods: many are captivated by the idea of noticeable results without serious intervention. The style of the techniques known today was developed in the late 50s and popularized in the 60s by the author of the facelift book Senta Maria Runge.
To date, a lot of texts and books have been written about physical education for the face. The classic is "Five-minute Face-lift: A Daily Program for a Beautiful, Wrinkle-Free Face" by Reinhold Benz, who is credited with the idea of Facebook building. The daily set of workouts consists of 21 techniques and is aimed at training the muscles of the neck, mouth, eyes, eyebrows and forehead. The book is a set of simple and easy-to-follow exercises, and step-by-step photo instructions allow you to avoid mistakes in the program.
Carol Madgio's technique
Carol Maggio is the author of one of the most famous facial aerobics programs. Its uniqueness is that all exercises can be performed without being distracted from your daily activities. You don’t need a mirror, you don’t need to memorize the complex arrangement of fingers on your face, and therefore, it’s not that difficult to set aside 20 minutes for face building.
There are 14 basic exercises in Carol's program, which take about 11 minutes to practice daily. In her book and public speeches, the beautician advises to use the imagination as often as possible. Imagine how energy flows through the muscles, how they are filled with oxygen, work and tone the skin. And most importantly, have fun with the process.
Effect and benefits
There are more than a hundred different muscles on the face and neck, which weaken without exercise. "Trained" muscles slightly increase in volume, thereby creating a dense skeleton for the skin, smoothing out fine wrinkles and making it difficult for new ones to form. Agree, it sounds logical: we know that enough exercise strengthens the body, so why not apply the same logic to the face.
Face-building adherents say that regular facial gymnastics can improve the complexion, tighten its contour (due to the same increase in muscle volume), and also keep the skin healthy, elastic and radiant, since training helps to increase blood circulation and the flow of oxygen to the cells. With systematic exercises, the effect becomes noticeable rather quickly. This is because the muscles in the face are much smaller and thinner than other muscles in the body, making it easier to train. No special cosmetics or various gadgets are needed for classes - all exercises are performed only with the help of your fingertips.
Evgeniya Baglyk's technique
The most popular face-building expert in the Russian-speaking segment of the Internet. A former fitness instructor, Evgenia has been teaching face-building for many years using the methodology developed by her and teaching future specialists. Baglyk's many tips on how to properly care for facial skin can be found on social networks, and her ten-minute YouTube videos, each aimed at working out a specific muscle group, are gaining hundreds of thousands of views.
What you need to know
The main rule of facial yoga: when performing an asana, it is necessary to fix the muscle on which the load is directed with the help of the fingertips in order to avoid kinks. Also, do not forget to relax the rest of the muscles of the face that are not involved in the work. If you decide to go in for Facebook building, in the initial stages it is better to follow the instructions, sitting in front of the mirror. Some finger positions may seem very strange to you at first, and the work itself is almost jewelry. Once you've mastered the basics, you can train in the car on your way to work or during your lunch break.
Do not be afraid of a slight burning sensation or tingling sensation. It occurs when a muscle is worked out to the limit of its capabilities and lactic acid begins to be released. A tingling sensation indicates that you are doing everything right, but you do not need to be too zealous. First of all, look at your reflection in the mirror and determine which muscle groups you want to pay the most attention to. Depending on this, you will be able to adjust the chosen training program and work out individual zones more carefully. Conventionally, seven groups can be distinguished that are involved during face-building: the muscles of the eyes, nose, mouth, chewing muscles, muscles of the scalp, neck and ear. Many people firstly pay attention to three zones: forehead (frontal muscle), mouth (annulus of the mouth) and eyes (annulus of the eye, muscle of the upper eyelid).
Facial fitness instructors advise beginners to start with two sessions a day (morning and evening), 20 minutes each. Morning exercises, especially when combined with exercise or the gym, will quickly get rid of sleep marks and prepare your face for makeup. The evening complex will help you relax and reduce swelling. According to the author of The Yoga Face, Annleise Hagen, a professional yoga instructor with many years of experience, physical activity is a good alternative to various anti-aging programs. For those who have no time at all, a book called "The 5-Minute Facial Workout: 30 Exercises for a Naturally Beautiful Face" is recommended. As you might guess, it contains 30 different exercises to maintain the tone of the skin and muscles of the face. According to the author's promises, for a visible effect, it is necessary to carry out her program for only five minutes a day.
Patricia Horoway Method
The author of the facial fitness system practices a scientific approach and accompanies each exercise with a detailed story about how it works from a physiological point of view. Patricia's program consists of ten basic exercises to support major muscle groups. In addition to practicing face-building, Horoway advises to regularly massage the face according to the technique developed by her.
