Variety reports that filming will begin in November for the biopic of German-born singer, composer and actress Niko, the '60s diva who recorded an album with The Velvet Underground and was Andy Warhol's muse while taking part in wild parties at his famous Factory. The film will be directed by Italian Suzanne Nicciarelli, and the lead role will be played by Danish actress and singer Trine Dürholm. The director said that the film will take place not during Niko's turbulent life in New York and Paris, but in the late 80s, when the 48-year-old singer went on a solo tour of Europe and struggled with heroin addiction.
“Many people think that, as Andy Warhol once said, after recording an album with The Velvet Underground and hanging out at the Factory - well, after she slept with all the rock stars of that era - Niko became a fat addict., - said Nicciarelli about the idea of her film. "But how did her life really turn out?" The film is based on interviews with Niko's son and her former manager, as well as her own songs - the director will pay a lot of attention to them, since he believes that no one can tell about her life better than Niko herself.
