Answers to most of our questions we used to search online. In the new series of materials, we ask just such questions: burning, unexpected or common - to professionals in various fields.
Allergy to cosmetics is not such a rare phenomenon and can manifest itself completely unexpectedly. You can avoid unpleasant collisions: you need to find out if you have an individual intolerance to any components, and learn how to select alternative means. Irritation can be caused by both natural ingredients (the champions are essential oils) and synthetic ones (the most popular allergens are fragrances, dyes and preservatives). Much depends not only on the presence of the components themselves, but also on their concentrations, and in this case, the ability to read the compositions is almost useless. However, it is definitely worth taking minimal preventive measures before buying a new cream.
All ingredients used in the production of cosmetic products are safe. The products themselves undergo thorough toxicity tests before release, have a Declaration of Conformity with Russian requirements and standards. Nevertheless, the composition may contain components that can provoke a negative reaction - for example, if they come into contact with sensitive and delicate areas, such as the skin of the eyelids and mucous membranes of the eyes. Such a temporary reaction may be associated with an individual intolerance to one of the components.
The role and type of product plays a role. For example, cleansers come into closer contact with mucous membranes, therefore, they are more likely to cause irritation - this is influenced by the physiological characteristics of the composition of the tear fluid of the eyes. In this case, it is recommended to use a gentle cleanser suitable for sensitive skin. The acidity level of the product also affects. In general, the lower the pH of the environment, the higher the likelihood of irritation. Prolonged exposure to an acidic environment can damage living cells and cause inflammation. Therefore, it is worth choosing products with a neutral pH, as well as using products with a high content of AHA acids in the composition with caution.
Our skin is an inseparable part of the body, and often its condition becomes an indicator of more extensive processes
It is recommended to pay attention to the packaging: the component composition is indicated on it first of all so that you can understand if there are any ingredients in it that do not suit you. It should contain a list of potential allergens, which, as a rule, are contained in fragrances, a number of plant extracts from plants, essential oils and fragrances, and are present in the product above a certain concentration. These substances are indicated at the end of the list after the perfume ("Parfum"), separated by commas. These are the ones you should pay attention to when a negative reaction occurs. To determine the culprit, you should consult a doctor who will talk with you and conduct special tests. It is also useful to keep the label of the unsuitable product. In the future, you can compare its composition with the list of components of other products, determining which substances are contained in both of them. So by elimination, you can determine which particular substance is causing the reaction, and be on the lookout.
It is important to understand that our skin is an inseparable part of the body, and often its condition becomes an indicator of more extensive processes. For example, unpleasant redness and swelling of the skin may appear against the background of a previous illness or medication. Uncomfortable manifestations can be caused by a sharp change in the usual diet, contact with potentially strong allergens (for example, paints and varnishes), and so on.
If you regularly experience increased skin sensitivity, it is recommended to conduct a simple test for individual intolerance. Apply a small amount to the inside of the elbow and spread evenly. If irritation does not appear within 24 hours, then the product can be used.
