Aberdeen bestiary

Behind the frightening title "Aberdeen Bestiary" is a book supposedly created in the 12th century - the first mention of it dates back to 1542, when it was part of the collection of Henry VIII. The Bestiary is a medieval collection dedicated to animals (both real and fictional), where, using their example, it tells about the basic principles of morality.

In November, the University of Aberdeen, which owns the book, released high-resolution photographs of the bestiary pages to the public; on the university website, you can examine them in great detail - down to abrasions and fingerprints on the pages. Each page is accompanied by a small commentary telling what is shown in the illustration, as well as the transcript of the text and its translation into modern English. Close-up footage revealed that the book was being used for educational purposes: there were fingerprints on its margins, confirming that it was shown to the class. The University of Aberdeen hopes that, thanks to the electronic copy, the bestiary will be used again in studies.
