A bicycle is a great way to stay active, keep up with everything, and at the same time take care of the environment. However, it is important to remember about safety: on the road, anything happens, and a bicycle helmet reduces the risk of head injury by up to 85%. If you are not an avid cyclist and use city bikes, renting a helmet is not an option: it is not entirely hygienic, and not every helmet is suitable in size. American Isis Slate of the Pratt Institute of Industry proposed a solution to the problem: an ultra-lightweight folding helmet made from durable waterproof cardboard.
EcoHelmet is designed on the principle of a fan with many sections resembling a honeycomb. This structure allows you to evenly distribute the impact from the impact, reliably protect the cyclist and adjust the size of the helmet itself. In EcoHelmet, you can stay in the rain for up to three hours and not be afraid that the cardboard will turn sour. The invention received the James Dyson Award for industrial design for its combination of functionality and sustainability. The helmet is completely recyclable - the designer even suggests installing special containers at bike rental locations in order to establish a waste-free recycling of used helmets into new ones. EcoHelmet's manufacturing costs are minimal, so they can be sold for less than five dollars. The helmets are planned to be distributed directly when renting a bike, and later cyclists around the world will probably be able to order EcoHelmet online.
