One of the main trends modern make-up art is that any medium and texture can be used in a variety of ways. If our face is a canvas, then why not perceive cosmetics primarily as paints? We spoke with bold modern makeup artists about how lipsticks, pigments and highlighters are becoming versatile and multi-tasking in their own practice.

The most interchangeable products in my makeup bag are highlighter and lip balm. With the only proviso that if the balm can be used as a highlighter, then on the contrary - hardly. I love MAC Trends Palettes, which the brand releases every season. There are separate cream palettes for the eyes and lips, which I often use off-label.

I often use eyeshadows as lipsticks, a sculptor, and lipsticks as blush and shadows. But the most versatile product is, of course, pigments. The most multifunctional thing that can be: these are shadows, and a highlighter, and whatever your imagination is enough for. They can be mixed with lip gloss to create a lipstick, and thanks to pigments, you can create mascara of any color. Today we have a huge selection of products to experiment with, and the industry is growing very rapidly, so it's interesting to see what happens next.

Products with a creamy texture are the most multi-tasking: when the texture of the product is flexible and flexible, it can be applied to any part of the face. This applies to both creative and everyday makeup. None of my makeup is complete without a highlighter: I like to use different textures and shades, layering them on top of each other, or duplicate cream

a dry highlighter for a more pronounced glow and unexpected shade. In general, all the cosmetics that I use in my work, first of all, should suit and be comfortable for me personally. But sometimes, as part of an experiment or in the event that something important is not at hand, you can think about and use the products for other purposes. For example, instead of tone, try applying a concealer mixed with oil or moisturizer on your face. The beautiful red shade of the blush turns into shadows without any problems. As a shadow (or base for it) I like to use matte fixing lipsticks or tints; usually MAC or Cailyn.

I try to maximize the potential of the product, even in my own cosmetic bag. This is especially convenient when traveling, when you need to collect universal products in a small case. For example, I apply bronzing powder on the cheekbones and eyelids like shadows - it turns out a beautiful sculpting. An unobvious plus of this make-up is also that it will surely turn out to be harmonious due to the use of one color. I love using lipstick as a blush. In general, monochrome makeup is one of the main trends of the season. I like to look at cosmetics in a new way: the work case becomes lighter, and there is always an opportunity to surprise my clients.

There are products that were originally conceived so that they can be used on any part of the face and body: these are tints for lips, cheeks and eyes. Almost 90% of your makeup can be done with tint! Bronzer is a slightly less multitasking product, but it can be applied in a thin layer all over the face for an explicit correction, or used on the eyelids as a shadow. AND, of course, all kinds of highlighters (both cream and dry) are also capable of serving different purposes. They can be used to highlight the skin or create highlights on the eyelids and lips. One of the main products for me is the Becca Beach Tint for lips and cheeks. I love it in the shade Watermelon and have no idea what can compare with it.This is such a beautiful, noble and invisible shade on the skin that I can do almost all my makeup with it. Most often I put it on my lips and use it as a blush. And I apply the soufflé blush of the same brand in the shade Fig in general everywhere: they can be shadows, and also look great on the lips and cheekbones. I often apply dry highlighters on the eyelid, they are especially successful in setting off blue eyes.

One of the most versatile products is the Make Up For Ever Flash Palette, a palette of twelve creamy pigments. With it, I can create absolutely any color. There is a legendary story about makeup artist Roshar: once his luggage did not fly with him to the country where he was supposed to work, but quite by accident he had this palette in his hand luggage. He had no choice but to try to create makeup only with her help. The experiment was a success, as the shades from this palette can even serve as a foundation. I really like what is happening in the fashion and beauty industry right now. This is a movement towards abandoning luxury, simplification in everything. Many brands are creating universal products, makeup is changing. Modern beauty is, first of all, a rejection of excesses.

More than others, lipstick and cream blush allow you to show imagination. Due to my love for complex lip-art, I quite often find myself in a situation where I may not have one or another shade of lipstick. Eyeshadow comes to my rescue, and a pencil of the color I need acts as a base. You can walk on top with shine, or

leave the texture matte - whichever looks better. Recently, I increasingly use long-lasting matte lipsticks for drawing arrows and other types of eye makeup, especially wet smokey. Long-lasting lipsticks are usually a very good base for further application of a transparent shine to the eyelid: you can be sure that the makeup will not run away anywhere. Let me remind you that not all products are suitable for application in the eye area, but, for example, Jeffree Star and LASplash lipsticks are safe in this regard.

In general, I like the trend towards versatility more and more. Even my everyday makeup has become easier and faster thanks to cosmetics in sticks: blush, which can be applied not only on the cheeks, but also on the lips, highlighters, eyeshadow - all this is very quickly shaded with fingers, and the makeup does not take much time. In addition, all of these products are often small and take up much less space than large powder boxes and palettes.

For me, cosmetics are primarily a palette of colors and textures with a variety of functions. Therefore, I do not have any prejudices or worries about the use of funds for other purposes. For example, I often apply lipstick on the cheekbones and eyelids, instead of a highlighter I use dry eyeshadow or pigment. I like to apply shadows in watercolor shades

on lips soaked with balm, achieving a dense and rich matte color. And if you need a lively and sensual berry color, I combine two shades: a transparent peach gloss in the center of the lips, set off with a dry fuchsia pigment. It can also gently create a blush. These filming techniques have migrated into my daily makeup. When I'm too lazy to get my favorite highlighter Kryolan Pearl out of the case, I put lip balm instead. Sometimes I comb and fix my eyebrows with hairspray. It happens that all my makeup is done with one product, for example, NYX eyebrow lipstick. A make-up artist can create the desired shade by mixing it from several and create the desired texture from the products at hand. Therefore, there is no need to buy up the entire range of Lime Crime and Pat McGrath Labs. But I love the new items for the manufacturability of the textures, for the durability and ease of application, for the exact fit into the color that makes the heart beat faster.

Versatile products really make life easier: they are easy to use even on the run, they do not take a long time to blend, they help create a trendy monochrome effect, and are also ideal for “makeup without makeup”. They reflect modernity: the frantic rhythm of city life, interest in natural beauty, in environmental problems. Modern girls are more likely to put on makeup in a taxi, rather than sit for hours at a dressing table with a set of brushes and a bunch of jars. Such a thorough approach requires a lot of time, attitude and skills, and the result is often too deliberate, which, in my opinion, is not very modern. Another thing is the universal sticks that can be applied with your fingers. My favorites are Caramel Milk for easy sculpting and the absolutely versatile Сlinique Amp'd Up Apple. The shade Rubens is especially good when applied to lips, cheekbones and eyelids - it is very suitable for owners of dark skin and contrasting appearance.

The more I work with decorative cosmetics, the more I understand its versatility. There is only one strict criterion for me - allergenicity. Alas, there are no completely hypoallergenic cosmetics, but there are more and less aggressive ones. For example, if a model has sensitive eyelids and is uncomfortable with shadows, I will not

focus on the eyes. In general, you need to be especially careful with your eyes and choose only those cosmetics that are intended for them: what is good for the lips may be bad for the mucous membrane. With everything else, options are possible. You just need to know about the persistence of cosmetics and its other properties: whether its base is oily or dry, what is its pigmentation, how it interacts with other products and how it looks on the skin as a result. When you understand what the task is before you, and evaluate the cosmetics according to all these criteria, there will be a couple of options left. For example, a long-lasting blush can be made with tint, long-lasting lipstick, and cream blush - if they are then fixed. Smokey - suitable for the eyelids, lipstick, eyeshadow, dry or cream pigment. In general, the algorithm for working with cosmetics is as follows: to understand the task of makeup, to clarify the allergenicity of cosmetics and how persistent it should be, and only then choose products.

Two examples from our recent shoot for Buro 24/7. I glued poppy petals to Polina's face. There was not much time per frame, the model just had to stand, so lip gloss was used: it held the petals well and it was very easy to remove it later. But for Liza, I glued the glitter on her face using false eyelash glue, and this turned out to be not the best solution: the glitter is not easily washed off, and even more so on the glue. Lip gloss would have worked better, because then we had a few more shots, before which it was not possible to completely wash off the glitter. But, fortunately, this was not visible in the frame.
