The most relevant topics of the moment - adolescents and the era of zero. At the same time, the return of Marilyn Manson to fashion, and screaming about welfare rhinestone accessories, and young actors from the TV series "Stranger Things", and the ubiquitous logos on belts and bags, and, of course, millennials as main consumers are heard at the same time. If you want to understand the style of such a recently bygone era, there is no better film material. We propose to revise a dozen of cult films with anthropological interest, paying close attention to outfits - it is in them that the spirit of the times is reflected.
Crossroads
Crossroads, 2001

A road movie that gave us the only major role of the main pop singer of the era. It is worth watching it primarily for the sake of outfits: there is also an image of a “neighbor girl” - sneakers, simple T-shirts and tops in a flower, - and an unexpected rock transformation, as it was presented in 2000s, and frank combinations - for example, a short blouse and jeans with a very low rise, which were on Britney Spears during the performance of the final song.
A separate pleasure is to look at the photos of the actors during the premieres and press walls after the release of the film. This is where the luxury of the 2000s is: with caps, bandage dresses and grotesque shoes.
Ghost world
Ghost World, 2001

Another film about girls' friendship - only already talking about the "alternative" 2000s. Vintage dresses, multi-colored hair, thick-rimmed glasses, heavy boots, T-shirts with comic book prints, leather jackets - about the same set of things could look relevant in the 90s, and the same looks appropriate today - if only because of the teenage riot was, is and will be. The fact that the film was filmed in 2001 is revealed only by the smallest details: hairpins, pendants, a short skirt in a very fashionable Scottish cage for that time.
Mean Girls
Mean Girls, 2004

Lindsay Lohan grew up according to the laws of the genre: the actress went the way of those whose childhood was devoted to exhausting work on the set. Nevertheless, her name is still associated with the movies of the dashing 2000s: Lohan starred in the most striking films of the era, showing how teenagers dressed. Freaky Friday, while not receiving critical praise, was popular with audiences and paved the way for High School Musical and other box office monsters.
The best film of the actress - "Trashy Daughters" - a real guide to the style of the 2000s. The main color is pink, the most popular item is a velvet suit, and accessories with colored logos like those in the Louis Vuitton collection in collaboration with Takashi Murakami are a schoolgirl's dream. Mean Girls also pay attention to those who find themselves on the outskirts or deliberately oppose themselves to the rest, including in fashion - choosing striped knee-highs, baggy sweaters and fat eyeliner in the spirit of early Avril Lavigne.
Country of eccentrics
Orange county, 2001

The film's potential audience in the 2000s could be determined by the soundtrack: "girlish" cinema was accompanied by ballads performed by Mandy Moore or Hilary Duff, dance films - R&B, and "universal" - pop-punk like Blink 182. "Country of freaks" (as well as "Eurotour") - of the latter, and the tracks Crazy Town and The Offspring confirm this.
If you want to know what the "relaxed Californian style" looked like, this is the place for you - the supporting characters choose it. The protagonist's girlfriend walks non-stop in a flowered silk skirt, while his loafer friends flaunt their characteristic disheveled hairstyle and Hawaiian shirts. And although the film was positioned at the box office as a light youth comedy, "Country of Eccentrics" managed to avoid vulgar clichés and sensibly tell about family, friends and the search for oneself.
Juneau
Juno, 2007

In one of the most famous independent films of the 2000s, "Juno", costumes play an important role: they allow you to better understand the character of the characters, especially the main character - a pregnant schoolgirl. There is not even a hint of pretentiousness characteristic of the era - everyone looks as relaxed as possible, perhaps, except for Juno's friend, who would easily fit into Mean Girls, she loves pink so much. Needless to say, if one of the most memorable things in the film is the home phone in the form of a burger.
If you look closely, the characteristic stylistic tricks are evident - for example, T-shirts are certainly worn over thin long sleeves (and this fashion, judging by the recent Louis Vuitton show, is returning). The film's title shot - Michael Cera in a jogging uniform and pregnant Ellen Page in a hoodie and skirt over jeans - has inspired the selection of Halloween costumes year after year.
Thirteen
Thirteen, 2003

Drama from the series "good girl gone bad". The Thirteen, which passed unnoticed for Russia, raised a classic Hollywood theme long before The Rough Vacation. In the unusual role of a rebellious excellent pupil, Evan Rachel Wood, for whom the film was a real breakthrough, despite the failure of the film at the box office. Piercings, low-rise flared jeans, crop tops, gel strands, a variety of bracelets, knitted mitts, bluish-black eyeliner - elements of the era are here in all its glory. Outrageously sexy clothes are another sign of the times, which is shown without discount on the age of the heroines.
Super Peppers
Superbad, 2007

Released in our box office under the weirdest name "Superbad", the film is dedicated primarily to boyish friendship. At the same time, it is the costumes of the secondary female characters that indicate that there are zeroes in the yard. Plastic jewelry, tight-fitting T-shirts and sweatshirts, bags with a short handle on the shoulder and, of course, slanting bangs that did not pass by anyone, including Emma Stone. Watching a witty movie is worth at least because of the stellar cast and the ingenious release of the character Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who later scattered into memes.
Steep Georgia
Georgia Rule, 2007

Georgia Tough marked the beginning of the end of Lindsay Lohan's film career. Hidden under the cover of a typical comedy about a spoiled girl, the film turns into a drama with a sad denouement in the course of the action. Sent to her grandmother for "correction" in a remote town in Idaho, the main character immediately attracts attention - also due to her appearance. A classic shirt tied under the chest, aviator glasses, a tan with an orange undertone, flirting with a seemingly relaxed boho style (but the way it was seen only in the 2000s) - everything is here. We advise you to look at least for the sake of the character style of Lohan.
Become successful
Bring It On, 2000

One of the popular teenage stories in the 2000s revolved around a team of cheerleaders. The comedy "Bring It On" found such a response from the public that the film was subsequently continued in three parts. If the movie about the achievement of the notorious American Dream causes you nothing but yawn, pay attention to at least the first part with Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushka in the lead roles - both class and interracial problems are not stupidly shown here.
Most of the time, for obvious reasons, the heroines wear a cheerleading uniform, which has not changed much since 2000. But everything that happens behind the playground deserves attention, especially the unusual hairstyle of the gymnast (played by Dushka), who from the very beginning despised mainstream sports and strained smiles.
Jeans mascot
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, 2005

Mascot Jeans, starring young Blake Lively, also garnered a loyal fanbase of teenage girls in its time. The secret, obviously, is in the variety of types. Four different heroines not only reasoned, but also dressed differently - only the same pair of "magic" jeans that went with each of them remained unchanged. The film proves once again that even a standard set consisting of a T-shirt and jeans, both in 2005 and in 2017, can look original. Despite the big return of the 2000s style, this flared model, however, still causes painful flashbacks for many.
