FOR THE HEADING "WARDROBE" we photograph beautifully, distinctively or oddly dressed people wearing their favorite things and ask them to tell stories related to them. This week our heroine is Dilyara Minrakhmanova, designer and co-founder of Outlaw Moscow.
I have a difficult relationship with things: about a dozen different women coexist in me and I am happy to try on different images with the help of clothes. Yes, the profession determined my uniform: most often (especially when creating collections) I wear black jeans and a T-shirt, sneakers or boots - this is the most comfortable shell that does not distract from the creative process.
I work a lot with color, texture and shapes and really love to see the result of work on someone. Clothing for me is aesthetically the most understandable and interesting language, a tool of dialogue and manifesto in creativity. At the same time, there is often not enough time for shopping, so I mostly buy things on trips. I don't like online shopping - tactile sensations are important to me and I need fitting. I love vintage, I have a positive attitude to exchanges with friends - the last time we swung the hoodies from our latest collections with Canadian designer friends during Milan Fashion Week; then their thing saved from the cold nights on the boat during the regatta in Italy. I love shoes, unusual cut, accessories of a strange shape and things with a history.
Jacket Rihanna for River Island, Outlaw Moscow dress, Rick Owens boots
The perfect denim jacket is my faithful companion on almost all travels. I bought it in the first years of the university; it is heavy and big, but I love it all the same. Boy friends constantly strive to steal the jacket. I do not remember at all how these leather trousers appeared, but shoes are an accidental find at a rare moment of shopping in Moscow. Made from recycled leather that looks like paper. They seem to be in pointe shoes.
Bomber, pants and swimsuit -
Outlaw Moscow, Fenty x Puma boots
Bomber bolero, trousers and swimsuit - SS-18 collection. The bomber was made after the Chinese counterfeits of our things appeared.
Outlaw Moscow bra, The Incorporated trousers, Kurt Geiger shoes
I pay tribute to R&B and American culture. I brazenly stole the jeans from my friend Slavik. Glitter shoes - impulse buying; they have an impeccable rise that makes the leg graceful. The bra was made to be worn over dresses and shirts, but it looks cute too. Especially suitable for dancing, and especially not in November.
Outlaw Moscow trench, sweatpants from China, Yuul Yie shoes
The trench was sewn in a single copy, since there was little fabric; it rustles pleasantly and keeps its shape cool. The shoes have a sister pair in Germany: my Berlin friend Nina stumbled upon them at a Korean designer store in Mitte. Exercise is one of the few things left over from life in China.
Marni sweater, vintage jeans, Prada sandals
This American pair of jeans of the coolest quality has an interesting story: they were brought to Russia in large quantities back in the 80s, but until 2015 they were in a warehouse in the building where our production is located. We accidentally found out about its existence and bought it entirely for Outlaw Moscow. We still sew jackets and jeans from it. For this pair, I just cut the length and got the perfect fringe.
I bought a knitted sweater in Berlin before flying to Moscow: we went to the Kreuzberg promenade with my Berlin friend Max and went to the Voo store. The cutouts fascinated me, and I have long wanted an ivory sweater.
Vintage jacket, COS dress, Maison Margiela ankle boots, Himère earring
During our last trip to Rome, my friend Christina and I decided that one day we would mindlessly walk around the city. Our improvisation included a couple of vintage shops, where we changed clothes and took pictures for a long time and cheerfully, and ended up buying two almost identical jackets. We noted it with excellent gelato around the corner. A dress is an atypical purchase for me, but at that moment I really wanted something simple and understandable.
Custom made dress, Maison Margiela boots
The dress was specially made for the theme party for the regatta in Italy. There was a lot of glitter and mother-of-pearl, but the stars still shone brighter that night.
Jil Sander top, vintage shorts, Fenty x Puma boots, Himère earring
I love everything voluminous, especially the top. The shoes were given by Puma - I feel like a “big girl” wearing them.
Military jacket, Moschino jeans, Oak T-shirt, Maison Margiela ankle boots
I wear this American military jacket with pleasure - I love it for its pleasant color combination and immense size; bought in a specialty shop in Berlin a few years ago. I love jeans of all shapes and colors, but I rarely find suitable ones, every time it's a little holiday. These vintage 80s are perfectly blue, worn and the right length; I have been wearing it for many years. Well, the ingenious Maison Margiela Tabi have become the most comfortable shoes for me - I want them in all colors and textures. I bought the T-shirt by accident in Berlin this spring: it has an asymmetrical shape and is made of pleasant cotton. I also took the same white one and wore it all summer.
Top Amalfi Designers, the dress is made to order
The jacket is made in a classic southern Italian style, and I bought it in Amalfi. Probably so that it hangs beautifully in the closet. Here is a reason to wear.
I stopped wearing rings, bracelets and chains, and replaced numerous bulky earrings with a couple of modest models that I hardly take off. One of them is the Himère crescent moon, which was made by Dean's friend. He is, one might say, my talisman. Dad once gave me earrings, the design of which I decided to change - now they are with the same brilliant friend and are waiting for a jewelry transformation. Yes, Ding, I'm really looking forward to it!
Fakoshima x Outlaw Moscow glasses
Convenient to use as a mirror when traveling to the sea, for example.
Hermès Vintage Scarf
A gift during the period of my special love for vintage. I do not wear it often, I tie it on my head, neck or bag.
Perfume Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 Soleil de Jeddah
Clutch - gift, bags - Prada and vintage
The clutch of unknown origin glitters and lifts my spirits - it was given to me by my first love a million years ago. The Prada bag is a casual purchase in Sydney, I have been wearing it all the time for a year now - this is the most comfortable thing that fits almost the entire wardrobe. The latest bag is a post-war vintage; I took it in Rome about five years ago from a lovely old lady in a vintage furniture and accessories store.
Dries Van Noten Booties
When you put them on, a festive mood immediately appears.
Petite heel for petite me. I bought it five years ago - it always remains relevant.
