Last year stylists, fashion editors, buyers and influencers have suddenly started trying on cycling goggles in combination with clothing from a wide variety of genres. Kim Kardashian appeared in sports models, then Bella Hadid and even Princess Anna (including thanks to whom vogue.com declared such glasses a "big fashion trend"). In the summer, Vetements presented bicycle goggles with spikes, and already in the fall, there was a boom at fashion weeks - they were shown by Alexander Wang, MSGM, Stella McCartney, 3.1 Phillip Lim and other brands. We will tell you how a sports accessory has taken root in everyday wardrobe and why this summer it will be everywhere.

How it all started
Today, professional athletes are unlikely to sit on a bicycle without special glasses: dirt, dust, stones, insects are only part of what threatens them while riding. But sports glasses appeared much later than the bicycle itself. Only in the first half of the 20th century, cyclists began to wear glasses that they borrowed from pilots - with a leather strap and glass lenses. In the 50s, cyclists were already wearing prototypes of modern "aviators", and in the 60s - small rectangular glasses.
The first real bicycles were released by Oakley in 1984 - the Eyeshades model was distinguished by large and bright lenses that hid the eyebrow line (so the frame does not interfere with the view). A year later, the future three-time winner of the Tour de France Greg Lemond and another titled cyclist Phil Anderson performed in new futuristic glasses, and after two they cut half the peloton. Companies appeared that specialized exclusively in this sports accessory, such as Briko and Rudy Project. The models themselves were also improved: if earlier cyclists with vision problems had to ride in ordinary glasses, now curved lenses were made with diopters.
In the 90s, sports made their way into street fashion and practical bicycles became part of the everyday wardrobe. One of the most recognizable models is the laconic Oakley Romeo, which was advertised by Michael Jordan. Similar ones were tried on by more than one action hero of that time: special agent Ethan Hunt in the second part of the film franchise "Mission Impossible", and the character of Eric Bana in the movie "Black Hawk Down". But with the advent of the kitsch fashion of the 2000s, bicycles remained in the wardrobes of the athletes themselves and loyal fans of Oakley (such was the actor Robin Williams).
How bicycles returned to fashion
Cycling goggles were on the rise at the beginning of last year - as is often the case, thanks to Kim Kardashian. The star of the TV show from time to time combined a sports accessory with leggings, tight shorts and tops, windbreakers and over the knee boots. He tried on cycling glasses Oakley and Pharrell Williams, which he said on his instagram. After that, Rita Ora, Bella Hadid and even Princess Anna, who wears it with classic clothes, appeared in the sports accessory more than once. And after the July show of Vetements, which presented their variation of cycling glasses, the trend was clear.
Sports style has long become a constant of modern wardrobe, and its elements are a routine: sneakers, leggings, crop tops in everyday looks are no longer surprising. That is why the combination of cycling glasses, for example, with blue jeans and even dresses does not seem to be something unusual. Kenzo, Heron Preston, Marine Serre and Courrèges demonstrated the sports accessory at the spring-summer shows. He also entered the new autumn-winter collections: Palm Angels, Marine Serre, Iceberg, Mary Katrantzou and others combined cycling glasses with down jackets, dresses of different lengths and styles, formal jackets and massive earrings. Mid- and low-price brands are not far behind - budget cycling goggles can be found at Mango, ASOS, Topshop and others (however, they hardly protect from the sun - they can only be used as a bright accessory).
What to wear with
Designers suggest wearing cycling goggles with almost any outfit. In our opinion, the most interesting variations are obtained by playing with different styles. For example, Sportmax added glasses to a turtleneck, miniskirt and wool jacket look, and Kenzo added glasses to a down jacket, a flying dress and a fluffy hat. If glasses with huge gradient lenses seem too extreme, pay attention to laconic translucent models - such are found in the Heron Preston and Nike collaboration.
But if you are going for a bike ride, then you should still rely not on the mass market, but on specialized companies - they pay attention to technology. The goggles need to be very durable, really shade from the sun, fog-free while riding, and provide a clear and clear view.
