Many have a school associated with prohibitions - primarily related to appearance. Often, restrictions are imposed not only on students, but also on teachers. Conflicts are inevitable: for example, at the end of March, the teacher of the Barnaul school, Tatyana Kuvshinnikova, was forced to resign due to pressure from the management after she published photos in a swimsuit from sports competitions and an evening dress on social networks - according to her, the director considered them a "stain" on her reputation schools. This is far from the only such case: last year, a teacher from Omsk, Victoria Popova, was forced to resign because of photographs in a swimsuit.

In defense of Tatyana Kuvshinnikova, her colleagues launched a flash mob #TeachersToolsPeople. We spoke with several teachers from different cities of Russia about social media and the right to privacy.

I think there are things that should be prohibited for everyone, regardless of profession - say, interracial hatred - but they are already prohibited by law. But discussing the moral character of a teacher in a swimsuit is beyond my understanding. If other people are allowed something, then how did the teachers deserve the ban, for example, to upload photos from the beach? From the point of view of the rule of law, everyone has the right to rest and privacy - why are teachers and doctors deprived of this right?

Yes, the profession of a teacher requires certain personal qualities - first of all, of course, professionalism, knowledge of the subject. I believe that it is difficult to work at school without love for children: each child is individual and you need to find an approach to each. The profession of a teacher is full of difficulties and joys, it is sometimes emotionally exhausting, so it is impossible to be a teacher for twenty-four hours a day. Teachers are human too; they have weekends, vacations, friends and families. But an active social life does not in any way contradict the title of a teacher. The quality of education does not in any way suffer from the presence or absence of tattoos or photographs in a swimsuit.

I was lucky with the school, parents and administration, I did not face bullying. But, unfortunately, I heard a lot of stories about colleagues about whom parents complained to the administration - and that, instead of protecting the teacher, followed the public's tastes, sometimes losing a competent specialist.

It is not clear to me how a photo in a swimsuit, an evening dress, or even a hedgehog suit, is related to the professional qualities of a teacher. If the qualifications and quality of work meet the requirements of the school, then life outside of work should not affect anything. As if no other teacher had ever put on a swimsuit in his life - and in general, teachers are not allowed to the beach. It is sad that the reverent attitude towards the teaching profession, which persists in society, can cause unjustified decisions.

As for the working time, then, in my opinion, you need to comply with the rules adopted at the school. Where I worked there was no formal dress code. Rather, I myself chose clothes in an emphatically formal style so that at first I would not be confused with high school girls - but, as far as I know, this often happens with young teachers. At the same time, my tattoo on my neck did not embarrass either the administration, or colleagues, or the parents of my students.

Of course, distance in relationships with students is important. But often it is a concrete fence, behind which the other side is not visible. It is important for children to understand that a teacher is a person, with his own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. It is important for teachers to remember that the child learns to live in this world, is looking for his place. If you remember that there are people nearby, not functions, it is easier to communicate and understand them.

Frankly speaking, I was surprised by the situation with Tatiana Kuvshinnikova. There was even a feeling of deja vu, because last year a similar story had already happened - with Omsk teacher Victoria Popova, who was also forced to leave school because of a photo in a swimsuit, and after a resonance in social networks was returned to her workplace. It would seem that the incident was over, the society realized that teachers are people too - after all, judging by the comments, the majority were on the teacher's side. And here, as they say, this has never happened, and now again. Moreover, the claims are sucked from the finger: a person leads a healthy lifestyle and sets an example for students! But many are ready to see "dirt" in everything, disregarding common sense. I am sincerely sorry that Tatiana had to face such people. And it is very unpleasant that the school administration did not take the side of the teacher, but decided to follow the path of hypocrisy and indulgence of ignorance.

Of course, the profession of a teacher imposes a number of restrictions on the image that he can demonstrate to others - both in speech, and in appearance, and in actions and habits. But all these restrictions, in my opinion, do not differ from those that other sane people set themselves. Yes, the teacher unwittingly sets an example for his students - whenever they see him. As well as parents - to their children! And the photos of both teachers do not carry any bad example. They can only show that teachers are the same people, that they have hobbies that are not related to work, that they are interesting, lively, not notorious, but open lives. I think it would not hurt to learn this and some adults.

The situation the teacher Tatiana Kuvshinnikova got into is absurd. In pursuit of false morality, the parents and school leaders showed bigotry. I have been working in the education system for about thirty years and I can say that the teacher is an example for the pupils. Tatyana Kuvshinnikova demonstrated to the students that she adheres to a healthy lifestyle. If this photograph is considered indecent, then it is necessary to prohibit showing on television competitions in swimming, figure skating, and gymnastics. This is nonsense.

In the Soviet school, as part of the physical education program, students were engaged in various sports: playing (volleyball, basketball, football), athletics (running, long jumping, horseback exercises, and so on), skiing, swimming. Children passed swimming standards in the pool, where physical education teachers in swimming trunks and swimsuits were with them in the water. It was okay. What has changed now? It's a shame that, in response to the prejudices of one person, the headmaster made an unprofessional, in my opinion, decision. Recently, unfortunately, parents quite often interfere in the educational process: they "teach" to teach lessons, dictate to the administration how to deal with subordinates. And now they consider themselves entitled to interfere in the personal life of teachers.

I can say that I did not see anything outrageous or exciting the imagination either in the photo in an evening dress or in a photo in a swimsuit - especially since the latter was not taken on the beach or in a bikini. And I certainly do not consider such photos to be the reason why the teacher can be fired. After all, we, teachers, are urged not to evaluate children by their appearance, not to take into account the personal attitude towards the student when assessing, but to look at his knowledge. So why not evaluate a teacher by his or her work? Of course, I do not urge you to go to work in pajamas or a tracksuit and tops - in my opinion, each dress has its own time and place.

As for the teachers and the limitations in their appearance: at school, I think this is permissible. For example, I do not understand teachers who go in too short dresses or skirts, clothes that are too tight. I don’t condemn and don’t think that it makes them worse, I just ask myself: why? Want some attention? Show everyone that you are in great shape? But why go to school? There is personal time.

In my free time, I think that a teacher should not have any restrictions. But, I think, if you undertake to wear something extravagant and post it on the Web, be ready (at least morally) to defend your right to do so. Of course, in an ideal world, others do not care about what you do in your free time from work - but we do not live in such a world. And the attitude towards teachers in our country is "special". Be ready for it - or ignore it.

To be honest, I myself, as a young teacher and a person (intentional separation, yes), while it is difficult to understand personal space, I am looking for that very balance by touch. I have been teaching at the Lyceum for the second year, and so far there have been no problems. I have a private Instagram, and therefore I post whatever I want on it. Facebook is a different matter, I need it for my work (I am a journalist), its content is available to everyone. But again - I don't have a photo in a swimsuit. Why? I do not know. I, like Kuvshinskaya, do not participate in the races. And just like that … Why do I need a phone on the beach?

As trite as it may sound, the teacher is also a person. Moreover, he is a person. And how can a person who is not an independent and developed personality be a successful teacher in general? It seems to me that a certain dress code must be observed at school. For some, it is determined in advance by the administration, the contract or the charter of the school, and someone develops it for themselves. I think every good (or striving to be good) teacher understands how to look in class. He will not allow himself to be dressed untidy, defiantly, to distract children from the lesson with his appearance. In addition, as practice shows, children are pleased to see a person in front of them, dressed comfortably, tastefully, stylishly, individually, and not a person “in a case” from office clichés.

As for personal life, this is everyone's business, teachers are no exception. If a person works well, then it doesn't matter what he does outside of work (this does not apply to criminal behavior). We teach children to be understanding and tolerant (in our time this word sounds every iron), to accept others, regardless of their appearance and preferences - but we ourselves are subjected to oppression due to personal choice. It is very disappointing that teachers become practically powerless and defenseless in front of their parents, since it is easier for the management to blame the teacher than to contradict them, although they often do not behave like “role models” themselves. But they, and not teachers, should basically be the standard of behavior for children.
