Sports brand adidas has unveiled the new Futurecraft.Loop sneaker, every part of which is recyclable.
Thermoplastic polyurethane is used as a raw material for the production of laces, tongues, soles, bases and upper covers of shoes. This material is recyclable, and the parts are bonded during production using heat and without the use of glue.
In this way, the brand expects to reduce plastic waste and continue the trend of sustainable fashion development, which it began with Parley for the Oceans. However, they clarify that the raw materials from one recycled sneaker will not be enough to produce a new one, its total share will be from 5 to 10% in the composition of a new pair.
The company says that recycled Loop sneakers should be used to make new models, not to make plastic bottles, then the process will be completely looped. adidas has released only two hundred pairs, which will be given to several professional runners for testing. Mass production of the sneaker is due to start in the spring of 2021.
