Gucci is once again at the center of a scandal after the New York Sikh community accused them of religious and cultural appropriation. The reason for their dissatisfaction was the turban, which appeared in the new collection.
“The turban is not only an accessory that can be monetized, it is a religious item that reflects faith and is sacred to millions of Sikhs. Many find this cultural appropriation unacceptable because wearing a turban due to fashion trends does not respect its deeply religious meaning,”they tweeted. In turn, representatives of Gucci did not comment on the allegations against the brand, but, nevertheless, the item disappeared from sale from the official website.
Recall that in February, the brand faced criticism over the fact that social media users found similarities between a turtleneck with a red cut in the shape of the lips and a blackface image (theatrical makeup used to depict an African-American character who is considered racist today. - Approx. ed.).
