IN THE RUBRIC "NEW NAME" we talk about promising newcomers: musicians, directors, artists and other creative people - that is, everyone whose name appears more and more often on the pages of magazines, in social media feeds and in our conversations, and who is clearly on the verge of great success.
Tank and the bangas
who is it: a musical group from New Orleans, performing music at the intersection of funk, soul, hip-hop and rock
The main vocalist of Tank and The Bangas, Tarriona Ball (who also gets the nickname "Tank" from the name of the group) formed a lively quintet from New Orleans already in 2011, and in 2013 they released their debut album "Thinktank". The real popularity, however, was brought to them by a victory among 6 thousand other participants in the NPR radio competition - it is famous for recording soulful videos with live performances of musicians from young to old, which then fly around YouTube (the video from Tank and The Bangas has already gained almost 8 million views) … Combining funk, soul, hip-hop and jazz in their music, the band members sometimes find it difficult to answer the question: "What are you playing?" They themselves do not know - the team is famous for its love of improvisation and often musicians manage to surprise each other right during a live performance.
In April, Tank and The Bangas performed on the Jimmy Fallon Show, and most recently released their second studio album, The Green Balloon, and immediately embarked on an American tour. The fans of the group, which thanks to two vocalists (invited Angelica "Jelly" Joseph often performs with the collective) is called the female version of Run-D.M.C., Anderson Park and Norah Jones are already listed, and apparently the list will only be replenished in the near future.
