in the West, women's musical groups existed back in the jazz 20s, but really blossomed with the arrival of rock and roll in the 60s. Later, the girls took on hard rock, R&B, and pop music. Some groups sang and played instruments themselves (The Bangles, The Go-Go’s), others performed material prepared for them (Girls Aloud, Spice Girls), and there were also teams that recorded exclusively instrumental music (Bond, Scala). In Russia, the boom of women's groups came at the end of the 80s and 90s: the post-perestroika “Combination” was replaced by “Strelki”, “Brilliant”, “Propaganda” and other singing and dancing "Girls from the neighboring yard". We asked the former and current members of the women's teams to tell how their groups were arranged, how the casting was carried out, how the members' relations with the producers and with each other developed, and, finally, whether it was possible to leave safely.

My mother is a musician, vocal and piano teacher, and I graduated from a music school. Together we even performed in 19 cities in Japan when I was fourteen: I accompanied, my mother sang Russian romances.

But already at fifteen, as an experiment, I was sent to law (I graduated from the last two classes of school as an external student). I was sixteen, and that summer I was doing college internship as a secretary at the Manhattan Express. One evening the boy Dima came to see us, he then met with Olya Orlova (the future participant of the "Brilliant". - Approx. ed.). We became friends, and that's how I met Olya.

A little later I was invited to dance with the alternative group "Mesmer", and I invited Dima and Olya to our New Year's performance. After that, Olya called me and said that she was offered to create a female group, and invited me to the casting. Of course, I came, we were photographed, they saw how we move, can we sing, and they took me. It all happened too unexpectedly. A month after the casting, our first video "There, Only There" was released.

I found a common language with other girls easily, I am a very sociable and open person. We had a producer who decided and decides to this day who does what in the group, how to dress on stage, and so on (composer and producer Andrei Grozny. - Ed.). True, after some time, Zhanna Friske began to deal with our costumes, since she often flew to America and we trusted her taste. We didn't argue about anything in the dressing room. We did makeup there.

For me personally, the most pleasant thing in all this was communication with various interesting people and the performances themselves in front of the crowd. And the most difficult thing was lack of sleep and endless travel. But at sixteen or seventeen years old, it is not so damaging to health.

I left the group because I fell in love. And I realized that the most important thing for me is family. We had thirty concerts a month at the time, and staying in the band meant losing a loved one. I left and never regretted it.

Even then, there was another passion in my life - snowboarding and wakeboarding. I completely went into extreme sports. She hosted the program on MTV and much more. I was blissed out that there was no need to rush around Moscow with a backpack full of concert things, because earlier at any moment they could call and say that a concert would be in a couple of hours. I blissed out from the tranquility, walked alone in the forest, ate alone in a cafe and did not take my phone with me. I still love peace and nature very much.

To some extent, I have always remained in show business.But we can say that she left him. I have my own show business. I did a lot of filming, my projects in the field of extreme sports, photography, went to study at the Moscow Architectural Institute and so on. Then I fell in love with surfing, and my whole life began to revolve around it. We organized Russian championships, registered the Russian Surfing Federation, I made the first Russian surf camps in Portugal. All this was much closer to me than endless tours and fame. I wanted something else.

She flew to live on the island of Bali, gave birth to her first daughter and spent four years studying her surf school. I also learned to be a jeweler there and have been doing jewelry for six years now, I have created my own workshop. This is my outlet, my last love. I registered the Free Mind Jewelry brand - I make jewelry from silver and stones. I live in Portugal, right there is the main Free Mind showroom, from here I send orders to Moscow. I have two daughters, surfing and my favorite hobby - photography.

There were and are times when I want to record a song, and maybe someday I will do it. But now I have other priorities. And the composer has not appeared yet, who will write me what I want.

Group "Strelki" can be considered a sublimation of the aesthetics of the second half of the 90s. Tied in neon latex pants and boots on platforms, seven girls with clearly defined images "under the Spice Girls" sang about traitorous friends and handsome deceivers, easily assembled "Olympic", and in the video for their main hit - the piercing "You left me" - actor Ivar Kalnins dodged a bullet against the backdrop of a casino.

The group was also famous for its scandalous reserve line-ups, which toured the regions under "veneer" and the approval of the producers. At the beginning of the 2000s, endless permutations in the team finally took Strelok underground. In 2015, four (later - three) original participants returned to the stage and under the brand “the golden composition of the“Shooters”" perform to this day (among the fresh songs - the ironic hymn "I want to be thin").

I joined the group when I was twenty-two. I saw an advertisement on the TV-6 channel: “Come to the casting if you want to be like the Spice Girls”. I rehearsed the Winged Swing at home and came to the casting at the Ramenki recreation center (especially in the neighboring area). Moreover, I was without any special pop education at all. I learned everything already in the group, I was always a workaholic.

The hardest part was meeting the producers' expectations. They chose us, and a month later they said that none of us matched what they had taken us for. We were completely green then, we didn't even really know ourselves. Adult uncle-producers ask us: “What's the matter? Why aren't you in images? " And we answer: "Do we have images?" They told us which of us is an angel, who is a fatal beauty, and who is a tomboy, and then everything fell into place, the Strelka group was born.

The genius of our producers was that they didn't come up with anything - they just saw which sides needed to be developed in which girl. They helped to discover sexuality, femininity and so on. But we were not allowed to go beyond the image of a “girl from a neighbor’s yard”. We didn't have a stylist. We just initially determined who was playing what role, and bought costumes with the producers.

At this age, no work seems hard. We slept little, ate poorly, but none of this bothered me at that moment. This is not a job - this is a way of life. You work twenty-four hours a day. In the afternoon - rehearsals, interviews, recordings. In the evening - concerts. You perform until two in the morning, get up at six in the morning and fly on tour. Now I am already an adult, I love and respect myself and I would not live in such a regime. And then we did not know how it could be otherwise. This is the life of a popular artist, and there is no other way.

It is impossible to be friends with all of them. We were friends in companies of two or three people, although this was constantly changing. Someone was tired, someone was lazy, someone was overworking.But all this is clear only now, but then we solved all the difficulties and moved on.

We had official holidays twice a year. The producers invested very generously in Strelok and expected the results, they can be understood. They invested in us - we worked out. There were a lot of restrictions, I, as a person with his own business, now understand them. In general, everything that the producers were afraid of eventually happened. No wonder they were afraid!

In the late 90s, glamor was just in its infancy and looked pretty comical. There were no people in the country who knew how to be glamorous. We all studied. But in comparison with ordinary people, we, of course, lived well. Everything was available to us. Including communication with millionaires. But real glamor was not enough. But show off and bad taste - more than enough.

Strelka did not run away from show business to their husbands, we combined everything. At that time, our first boyfriends began to appear, but no one had a question about leaving the group for the sake of a man. I myself got married while still in the group.

There were several difficult moments. The decision of the producers to assemble a second cast was a shock. It was unpleasant when Stasya left (Anastasia Rodina. - Approx. ed.), and the producers took advantage of our naivety and forced us to pay a forfeit for it. When the other participant left, we already refused to pay anything. Somehow I missed the plane, and the group administrator did not send the whole team to the concert (although he could). These were all normal complications that arise during work, but they were not properly handled by the producers. Because of this, psychological difficulties arose. Later, the producers admitted their mistakes more than once. But within the group there was no problem, competition and showdown. All were equally simple. Some had an education, some did not, but give or take, we were all on the same level.

In the 90s, we lived and did not know if we had psychological problems or not. If one of the participants did not cope, she was transferred from one composition to another. When there are seven women in a team, no psychologist is needed. You are together twenty-four hours a day and you rub from morning to night. You discuss, advise, help. Perfect option.

There was little real glamor.

But show off and bad taste - more than enough

The best memory is the feeling of a cool and well-spent youth. This profession is for the young. I learned to survive in a team, to work with people, all this made me who I am now. I had an awesome youth. I have seen so much that people do not see in their entire life. I reworked it, accepted something, threw something away, but everything was important.

Leaving the group was painless for me, I was ready. We worked for five years, agreed on one more year, and then Hero and I left to found the Bridge duet. We started real creativity, we wrote and decided everything ourselves. One of the videos was shot by Fedya Bondarchuk.

Having finished with Strelka and Bridge, I never once thought that I would return to the stage. And she returned anyway. We wanted to perform with one song, but it became clear to everyone that we would work further. Unnecessary people fell off: now "Strelki" is no longer a production project. We are older and more interesting versions of the girls we were twenty-two years ago.

Now Kat and Hero and I have made a parallel project - the GMK OPG, which recently released the song "Spam". As the golden line-up of Strelok, we often hear requests to sing songs that are no longer psychologically close to us. And we are writing new songs that do not always suit Strelka. Therefore, we decided to share creativity.

When deciding to go on stage, you need to think very carefully: is this really what you need. If it's yours, you don't need any intrigue. You go and work. And if you feel superfluous in the team, it is better to leave immediately.

"Strelki" began with an order from one of the radio stations: the producers were asked to form a group - the "answer" to the Spice Girls. As a result, there were so many extraordinary girls that seven people got into the team, but gradually we shrank to five.

Before Strelok I worked in the market, so my arrogance knew no bounds: the role of a “boy-girl” was my family. And they took me into the group almost immediately.

Everything was equal with us, there was no leader, everyone sang equally. There were solo songs, but rarely. There have never been conflicts in the team: we had producers who, let's say, chased us both in the tail and in the mane. And we concentrated on the war with the producers, and we got along well with each other. The discipline was tough - with fines, deprivation of wages. The worst thing was to be late.

In those years, musical projects went a little differently: there were two music channels and several radio stations. Appeared on the air - that's all, take out a lucky ticket. Now you can become famous through the Internet, through social networks, there are much more opportunities. But the very rules of working in teams have hardly changed much: do not give birth, do not be late.

Specifically, there were complaints about my appearance. Over the years, I began to look more feminine, but they set a rigid framework for me: "No, Katya, you are a kid, and leave your femininity somewhere else." The brighter my hair color was, the better.

We had a contract for five years. And when it came to an end, we girls decided to revise the financial conditions. I announced this at a general meeting with the producers and was fired. After my departure, the group still existed for about six months, but it was an obvious decline (in 2003, the last members of the original line-up left the group, but the group officially worked until 2012. - Approx. ed.).

We knew that there was a second live lineup of the group, we were presented with a fact. In one month, three teams worked at once. The scheme was as follows: we, that is, the main line-up, were divided in half and girls were added to us who sang to the soundtrack, who outwardly looked like other "Shooters". We roared, resisted, and then took out the consequences while the producers were making money.

Youth is a time when you have a lot of strength, everything is fun, you like everything. In those years, there was no feeling that I had a hard job. I realized this only now. And then everything was easy and fun. Fifteen hours by bus? Go! We had a solid positive. I loved this life. Constant movement.

Personally, I never caught a star and did not feel much fame. The rules of work were very strict, and we are still trying to get rid of those habits: “do not ask for too much,” “live where they will settle” and so on. Although now it seems to be possible, we have been working for twenty years. But no, then we were thoroughly discouraged. I don't know how things were for other groups: we just worked and worked. There were times when it was normal to show up at home once a month. When there are so many things to do, you have no time to find out who lives how.

The producers actively pushed us towards scandalousness. We didn't refuse or agree - we just had to do it. A contract is a contract. Usually the yellow press wrote about the group as a whole, and not about a specific member. If you want to do Playboy, you have to do the whole group. It was unacceptable for me, I was not ready to do it, but the answer was short: “If you don’t want it, there is the door”. I had to shoot. Because when you like everything else about your job, you have to undress for Playboy. It seemed - I will be patient, I will be silent.

I remember well the performance at which I started singing and fell into the orchestra pit. At another concert, Hera fell: she was lying, looking at us, and next to her there were broken heels. Sorry for her, of course, but very funny. Although we are talking about the 90s, no bandits took us anywhere to hot countries on tour.And it could be! The biggest pride is the concert "Shooter" in the "Olympic" in 1999. It was incredibly cool: people came specifically to us, crazy energy.

The first time after leaving the group was very difficult. One day my phone went silent, suddenly there was no need to go anywhere. And for a person who is accustomed to a frantic rhythm, it is extremely difficult to adapt to a calm life. All this ended with a suicide attempt, after which psychologists brought me to a normal state for six months.

I tried performing solo. There were songs, videos, a good project in general, but somehow it didn't work out. I was so used to going on stage with an army of my girls that I didn’t morally pull the job alone. One on stage was terribly uncomfortable.

I went to my family, tried to open up cooking, gave birth to two sons and lived in my quiet swamp. And in 2015, I began to have a terrible horror (Lyubomskaya's wife was put in jail. - Ed.). Although now I realize that these sad events shifted my consciousness: I realized that I was much stronger than I thought before.

In the midst of my personal tragedy, I gave a long interview to the federal channel, after which I invited the producer of the group, Leonid Velichkovsky, to organize the performance of "Shooter" in the original composition. I think my interview gave impetus to this, but I could be wrong.

Many former members of the group now live abroad, we communicate on social networks. I can't say that with other girls we are still one big family (as it was in the 90s). This is a different relationship - people who have come a difficult path. And in the group, Margot, Hero and I are now our own bosses, no one is in charge of us. We decide ourselves what we want to sing and where we want to go.

I sang for ten years at the musical theater of Galina Vishnevskaya, after that I entered VGIK and studied there for four years. At that time (mid-90s) there were no films and TV shows in Russia, and it was very difficult for the actors to find work. I saw an ad for a girl group and went with the desire to just perform. I had no thoughts about popularity then.

I went to the casting with full confidence that I would pass: I had the education of an opera singer. When I came and saw a whole square of girls, I was surprised, but not frightened. And I was immediately taken to the third round. There I already began to worry: I realized how many interesting personalities are fighting for a place in Strelka. Original, charismatic, unusual girls. Those who got into the group, I singled out for myself right away.

The producers told me that I sing pop music wrong. I went to retrain pop vocal. Usually, women's groups were recruited for the main soloist. And in our country the producers were considered the main ones, and the girls were equal among themselves. Therefore, we were good friends. The songwriters talked to us, asked us to tell stories about which lyrics could be written. The composer decided who would sing which line.

It is normal for a 20-year-old girl to work 24/7. Along the way, you are gaining a base so that you can then develop in this profession. And we did not see the glamorous life: we had constant tours. And when we came to Moscow, we only had enough time to put ourselves in order and play sports. Meetings, interviews, filming - it was an endless process.

We were accommodated in hotels for two or three people, and in Moscow we lived separately: we are all Muscovites. Two years later, we demanded that all hotel rooms be separate.

It was difficult and embarrassing. But we had a contract and we didn't have the right to vote. Each ultimatum required a tremendous amount of effort.

I'm calm about shooting in Playboy and generally a naked female body. In general, I perceived all the creativity of "Strelok" well. This is not the kind of music that I personally listen to and love. But in those years I could not find a use for myself, so I did what I could. Three years later, we asked to do a new show for us, allow us to sing live and buy new costumes, but no one really listened to us. This was a big disappointment. Not creativity, but making money. And then we made good money - twice as much as those who were sitting in stuffy offices. Our work was interesting. We traveled a lot, constantly met cool people, there were many privileges. The most memorable was the relationship with the girls. Everyone in the group was very funny, we joked all the time.

Of all the girls, I toured the most: I guess I was the most persistent. I had four month tours. Russia, Germany, Kazakhstan. Yes, it was hard. You have a suitcase of things that you transport from city to city every day. You can't change normally. Hotels then were such that now, God forbid, they would be given two stars. It is impossible to lie down in the bath, it is impossible to relax at all. You run, you drive, you hurry. There was no yoga or meditation then - we simply did not know about all this. Relaxed as best they could. I slept - it's already good.

When the group disbanded in 2003, I remained in show business, or rather in creativity. She wrote music, played in the theater, acted in films. I had a movement, an internal and external process. I worked on myself and on music. And now in Strelka we decide everything ourselves: no one tells us what to do and how to do it.

Soccx Quintet consisted exclusively of American women, but in the United States only a few heard about it: in the middle of the 2000s, German producers specially assembled a group for the European market. The team released only a couple of singles and a single album, but the members remain in sight to this day. I got into the band in 2006 because I really wanted to sing. At that time, I had been working as a dancer in Los Angeles for two and a half years. I was very attracted by the prospect of moving to Germany and starting a completely new life there. Moreover, I did not know a word of German, but I became more skilled while living there.

For the most part, the girls and I got along well. Of course, there were skirmishes. When five girls live, work and hang out together twenty-four hours a day, it's inevitable. We always had a common dressing room, no one was particularly singled out. Who will sing what, our manager and the producer decided. Each of them knew their strengths, the workflow was very organic. In general, for the most part, we had our full blast.

The most memorable was the recording of our album in Stockholm. And the most difficult thing was that before the band, none of us sang professionally. When you are completely green, it is difficult to trust both yourself and those around you, you are very careful.

The band broke up after another girl and I decided to leave. Things were not going well for us, and we decided that it would be better to leave the project altogether. Other members then wandered from one girl group to another, and I absolutely did not want to be in a girl band again. But at one time she was the leader / screamer in the alternative rock group Je T'aime.

We still communicate with all the girls. I never left show business.Now I am a professional choreographer, together with my husband I stage numbers for TV series (Will and Grace), Disney Channel and much more. I teach stiletto heels at the Edge PAC studio in Los Angeles and teach the author's dance course "Zero Fucks".

When you work in a women's group, the best part is that you have a support group at your side all the time. You grow up together, study, help each other. This is the family with which you go through all the ups and downs.

Trio Serebro turned out to be a logical result of Maxim Fadeev's work at the Star Factory TV competition: one of the soloists was the show graduate Elena Temnikova, and the team debuted at Eurovision 2007 with the brisk Song # 1 (the song then took third place).

The composition of the team began to change in 2009, and at some point the whole process turned into a full-fledged online attraction: fans could decide for themselves who would get the next vacant seat. In February, the last participant of the original project, Olga Seryabkina, left the group, and Serebro completely renewed its line-up for the first time in its history.

I studied at the jazz college at Gnesinka, then at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the faculty of pop vocal. Along the way, she was engaged in dancing, led her team. At some point, I realized that I needed to change everything, and flew to Asia for a year. I lived there for a year, but all the time I was tormented by the thought that it was time to seriously take up music.

Upon my return, I found out that the casting of a new member had begun at Serebro. Considering that this is impossible for me, I recorded a video, collected a photo and sent it at random. Along the way, I decided that it would be better for me to return abroad. But I missed my flight, I got upset, and on the way home my phone started to break: it turned out that my video was in the top (the selection of participants was in the form of online voting. - Approx. ed.). In the end, I got into the group with 50 percent of the votes.

I remember well the peak of the girl bands in the early 2000s. All my childhood I listened to Spice Girls, then I loved The Pussycat Dolls. I liked this massiveness, a whole bunch of beautiful dancers-singers are coming to you. Of course, I wanted to be part of a similar story.

In terms of relationships, we had a very correct group. Without hazing, but with wise advice, sincere conversations and mutual respect. I would never go to perform alone. And here two much more experienced girls taught me everything, and I was spinning everything. And my self-esteem grew before our eyes. She learned not only to sing and dance, but also to understand people and behave like a woman. They can look at you like a piece of meat, or they can look at you like a diva. This is a very fine line. Being a respected woman on stage is a challenge. This can only be learned from the same women.

At the beginning of a career, it's very cool - not to go on stage alone, but with other girls. Wrong - and you were immediately supported, complete comfort. You have your own party on stage, you hang out with the girls. And we always wanted to communicate with each other. We walked together, always discussed everything after the concerts. When there are three of you on stage, no one can separate. If there are four of you, you can split up, and the trio must go in a united front.

The hardest part was not getting there

and cope with your body, and physically, and psychologically

Everything was very professional with us. At first there was a serious learning process: vocal and dance lessons, learning all the band's songs (not just hits), choreography, old concerts on YouTube. We chose the outfits ourselves, then with the stylists. We discussed, consulted, tried on. There was no such thing that someone liked something and he immediately took it. In Russia, the sphere of style is not very well developed, so all the fittings were difficult. There are three of us, everything should be combined, the outfits should be different, but combined. In general, we put our hand to the images.

I will forever remember our performances. Real magic happens on the stage. You can sit and chat with your girlfriends, but only a few people experience the magic of the concert, this is a completely unique experience.Although we also had a great rest, especially when we went to warm places, hung out by the pool, gossiped, and had fun. Once in Turkey we rode on a small yacht at such a speed that they literally flew up. Only you, close people and the sea - incredible emotions. Thank you for your work! Olya (Seryabkina, aka Molly, worked in the group since its inception. - Ed.) Was constantly doing funny things, and we pulled her out. Flood the room knee-deep? "Olya, how is that ?!" Knocking at five in the morning on my urgent room? Easy. It was a lot of fun, but when you have such a busy schedule, most of your free time is just sleeping.

The most difficult thing was not to reach exhaustion and to cope with your body, both physically and psychologically. In Serebro, I realized for the first time what kind of profession it was - an artist. As a child, you think: "How cool everything is with them: parties, clothes, beauty." And then you get inside and realize that not every day you can and want to be beautiful. That you can accidentally get sick, but you have a concert that you cannot refuse. You've had five flights in a row, and you need to go on stage and entertain everyone. It's complicated. There was a moment when we fell on the plane and went to perform after an emergency landing.

We had complete freedom as to what we say on stage and how we behave. I have never experienced any special pressure from Max (Fadeev, producer of the group. - Ed.). It seems to me that the script "the evil uncle the producer makes me" is a thing of the past. Previously, there was only a TV, it was hard to get on TV, people did some completely wild things. And now there is the Internet, you don't have to be noticed by the producer at all. People make their own decisions. It is no longer possible to control a person by 500%. If you go over the stick, he will go away.

Now the group has completely renewed, which was not the case before: the members previously changed one by one. Everyone except for Olya. And then Olya decided to leave. I recently started a solo career. I have a period of great inspiration and absolute effort: I am constantly working, writing an album. I only miss the lack of loneliness: with the girls, everything is livelier. We talk, sometimes we hang out, but everyone is busy with their projects. And everyone has the same emotion: "Friend, it's so strange to speak alone." Strange but interesting.
