Last year's tour of the Moscow duo IC3PEAK - one of the most politicized and protest on the Russian music scene - almost came under threat. In Russian cities, concerts of experimental electronics performers were canceled, officers of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs came to the soundcheck, and in the clubs they turned off the electricity and carried out drug trafficking.
Colleagues in the shop organized parties in support of the musicians - and the rapper Husky, who was detained at the end of last year, shared with the duo the money collected at the “I will sing my music” concert. On June 12, “people in black hoodies,” Nastya Kreslina and Nikolai Kostylev, came to a protest against the violent arbitrariness against journalist Ivan Golunov, and the day before they recorded a video message in support of him. We talked with Nastya Kreslina about protest, dignity, female and political will, and the new meaning of old words.
Interview: Alisa Taezhnaya
YOU JUST BACK FROM A NEW TOUR, IN WHICH, IN COMPARISON WITH THE PREVIOUS PREVIOUS, THERE WAS NO CRIMINAL PERSECUTION OR CANCELLATION OF CONCERTS. HOW DID EVERYTHING GO?
The tour really went very calmly in terms of interaction with the authorities - it was not. But it was a very hard tour, much harder than our previous one. In winter, we worked on adrenaline and the super idea that we have to finish the job at any cost. And now sometimes there was a feeling that people come to us like animals to look at. Of course, we were very well received: there was both our audience and a new audience - but you feel that something is expected of you. You have to give something, prove that you are worthy of this attention. And I really do not like to entertain people. In general, it seems to me that artists are not obliged to entertain someone. We do not have an entertainment project, we do not make a show - we have a kind of theater, we give a performance. And we are different from modern rappers who chat with the public. We have a different exchange.
WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU DURING THIS SIX YEAR?
Our first huge tour has just ended, 26 cities - of which only two are Russian: Moscow and St. Petersburg. The "tour with the cops", as we now call it, ended, then we immediately went to Asia - only in China there are five cities, then we had a short rest, like a month - and again the tour.
DO YOU LOVE IN CHINA?
Well, that was our first tour. For China with its population, it seems to me that it is generally underground underground, but it was cool. There was a youth party in Shenzhen, it was organized by guys who are very in the subject. They were the only ones in China who told the political story that happened to us, because everyone else in the country kept silent about it: you can't say anything about this, otherwise the concerts will be canceled. There is a VPN, a closed Internet. That is, everyone uses the Internet, but not so that in the open access everything falls out on you by itself. You have to really ask this question, find, study, get to know the artists.
DO YOU FEEL YOURSELF AT CONCERTS IN THE WESTERN CITIES?
We are well received there. There is a Russian audience there, of course - many have moved. But there is, in principle, a great interest in music, and our scene is developing very much. The Russian artist is exotic by default, the language is interesting to everyone. We go on our second European tour with Russian-language material, and there is no barrier between us and the listener, even the French sing along with us with a broken accent. We started making videos with subtitles, and everyone can understand what, in fact, is being sung about. Music still acts on an emotional level in the first place.
AND THERE IS NO FEAR OF THE WESTERN PUBLIC?
There is no fear at all, and there is no shyness, and this feeling of constriction. I originally wrote in English. This was completely natural, because English is a universal language, and the environment in which we found ourselves in Russia understands English. We wanted to communicate with the whole world and did not think that we needed to do something in Russian. Before the tour in the States, we had a large complex of people from a "third world country." Then many spoke in English. There was this moment, and it was unconscious. You are growing up in Russia, living and feeling quite defective since childhood - because you are Russian, this is not the West or Hollywood. And so you leave for America, and America seems super familiar to you. Especially New York, because there the whole world converged on one point. At the same time, you understand that in reality everything is very complicated in this country - not as it seems from afar. And you realize that in fact everyone there, on the contrary, is moved by their identity and are very interested in their roots. Therefore, they are very interested in your roots too. Your original Russian culture. We saw this among our peers - an adequate perception of Russia not as an evil power that is going to enslave everyone. People are wondering that there is another side.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I KNOW THAT YOU ARE SEVEN YEARS IN MOSCOW, BEFORE THIS?
Before that, I lived in Latvia, in Riga. It was the collapse of the Soviet Union, we have a Russian-speaking family, and there were national problems.
HAVE YOU DISCRIMINED?
Well, I have a story about Latvian children throwing mud at me on the playground, because I spoke Russian. But, naturally, they did it not because they were bad, but because the political situation was terrible. Yesterday you talked with your Latvian friends, you worked together, and the next day everyone turns away from you. Now we can understand why and what time it was, and that everything was not easy in the Soviet Union.
ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE CONFLICT WITH UKRAINE THIS IS STILL CLEAR
Yes, and I think that it was very hard for my family to go through. You come to place your child in a kindergarten, and if you speak Russian, all sorts of conditions begin, they say, "Well, you will wash the floors, then we will take the girl." When I came to Latvia much later, I had complexes. Because in me the Latvian blood flows, I do not speak the language, but my surname is Latvian - and at the same time I am such a Russian girl. And here everything was the other way around, because I am from Latvia and a little foreigner. In short, neither here nor there.
IS THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PRINCIPAL FOR YOU NOW?
I believe that language very much determines your cultural affiliation. I speak Russian and have always spoken. This is my language, therefore, my thinking. But division by nationality is always a very specific thing. Especially in a political context, when people would like to interact normally, but they are still being pushed together all the time. Now all over the world everyone is trying to be open and not to judge by labels, but to communicate with those they like. Neither gender, nor skin color, nor nationality should affect these things.
YOU DIDN'T HAVE FEAR WHEN YOU STARTED TO PERFORM MUSIC, WHAT WILL NOT GET YOU, WHAT WILL BE HARDER TO PUNCH?
I never had any fear, because my grandmother and my cousin were raised and there was a very “patriarchal” approach - in the sense that I did everything that my brother did. Grandma is one, and there are two of us. You can't take the boy to dance ballet with your sister, can you? And I can go to practice karate, judo, karting. So I tried all these things, the man's world seemed mine to me. When I started making music consciously in the project with Kolya, everything also happened very organically and naturally. Nobody shared anything.
ARE YOU FROM A MUSIC FAMILY?
My aunt is a violinist, my mother is an opera singer. I sang since childhood, but I had a big complex when they began to say to me: "Your mother is actually an opera singer, would you like to sing for us?" I replied that I actually do other things: karate, karting - I don't sing or dance. True, I always came up with something, did visual things, and now IC3PEAK is a visual and audio project to the same extent.
DO YOU KNOW THE IMPRESSOR'S COMPLEX?
I've always been very self-critical. But I cannot "not do": this is my way of communicating.Building some kind of contact with people - I have difficulties with this. My language is visual, sound. Apparently, this way it was easier for me to deal with shyness, with fears. Yes, it always seems to me that it will not work. But this is precisely what is reckless - to try, to overcome oneself. It seems to me that all my life I have been engaged in overcoming my "feet".
SO YOU HAVE SUCH ICE CALM DURING THE "TOUR WITH THE COPs"?
Well we are IC3PEAK. When we did the Death No More video, we thought we might be in trouble. We understood what country we live in. But for us it was an important sincere statement, and it seemed to us that it was made on the artistic field. This is not direct campaigning or politics. This is a work of art. We can afford it. Why should we censor ourselves anyway? We want to say - and we do. And this is the whole joke: the clip is such an easy thing, it is funny, beautiful, funny. Yes, she talks about the feeling that a person experiences while in modern Russia, there is this depressed state.
HAVE THE AUTHORITIES ATTEMPTED WITH YOU TO AGREE IN ANY WAY TO SHUT UP?
No, the whole joke was that, in principle, no one ever made contact with us. Everything happened in a roundabout way. Nobody expected us to continue touring and go public. Perhaps the story was initially centralized, but it acquired, as everything is acquiring in Russia, a chaotic character: everything got out of control and began to happen in its own way on the ground. I think that we are still from that galaxy of artists, with whom we would not even talk.
BABIES? F *** NATY?
Probably f *** ing. At first, they thought that we had a huge budget: they simply could not imagine that two people without connections and money could come up with everything and put together a team of friends. Probably there was a fright. And then all these parental committees began, because of which concerts began to stop.
ARE YOU A LITTLE HERMIT WITH ROOTS?
At some point, we were alone in a house in our studio outside the city. There are no more people around, no one - and this is already abnormal! Music and the two of us. I have a predisposition to depression, and in Russia we have many factors that can help you enter this state. I take many things to heart, and problems begin.
I have a line in a new text about my stomach hurting when I read the news. This is completely real: my neurodermatitis begins, so sometimes I arrange detoxification for myself and try not to read. But I can't help but read, because it seems important to me to be aware of what is happening. Sometimes you just realize that you are only reading the negative. It seems to me that up to a certain point, the news was something distant. They were not about you, you were at a distance.
WHY IS THIS DISTANCE SHORTENED AT ANY MOMENT?
It seems to me that this is growing up. You suddenly realize that you are the same person as this person, and this can happen to you too. You carry it over to yourself. And during our tour, it already physically touched us. Now it is generally impossible to be indifferent to what is happening. Just go into an apolitical state: I do my own thing, nothing concerns me.
DO YOU HAVE RESPECT THIS POSITION OR DO YOU THINK IT'S LITTLE?
I can't do that myself, and naturally I judge by myself. Each person has his own view, his own feelings. If this super self-defense helps someone not to get depressed, that's great. Who am I to condemn a person who does not want to be interested in politics? If he doesn't want to - let him not be interested. It's just that I'm arranged differently. It's hard for me to pretend that news doesn't exist. Not to know, just not to be interested? Don't be curious? It seems to me that at such a moment some part of the brain and body dies off. Like, I decided not to feel, not to participate. After all, we are already talking not about the categories "right" or "wrong", but about whether it is human or inhuman. I can't say that I know a lot and manage to keep track of everything. But there are some things to which I cannot remain indifferent - and I hope that this fossil will not happen to me.
YOU CALLED IN THE INTERVIEW WHAT IS NOW HAPPENING IN RUSSIA, THE MIDDLE AGES. WHAT ARE THERE WAYS TO COPE WITH IT?
The only way is to educate people. And in fact, these are not only schools and universities. This is transparency, access to adequate information.
DO YOU REMEMBER AT A CONSCIOUS AGE RUSSIA WITHOUT PUTIN? OR YOU DIDN'T FIND HER?
Yes, I don't remember another Russia. I also recently thought about it. My younger cousins do not know at all what could be different, roughly speaking.
AT WHAT MOMENT DID YOU START TO REFLECT ON THIS ACCOUNT?
During Putin's second re-election. Then I did my first job for a narrow circle of people. I drew a picture under the cover of James Blake's album for musician friends - a portrait of the leader, Putin Blake. And we all just laughed. A little later, I realized that I was going to vote, but nothing changed.
WHO DID YOU VOTE FOR?
Then it was Mikhail Prokhorov. I thought it was my duty. In general, I believe that, in spite of everything, you need to go to elections, as well as to go to rallies - you just need to instill this right in people, you cannot refuse it. It's like oral hygiene. You can go to vote, cross out the ballot. Go ahead and take this step. Because when you don't do anything, there is an opportunity for all sorts of shenanigans. Okay, she already exists, but if you do something, everything is different.
HOW DO YOU PHOTO REPORTS FROM THE RALLY ON TVERSKAYA, WHERE THE PUPILS HAVE BEEN ON THE LANTERNS?
The audience has grown. I have a good, optimistic attitude to this, why not? In general, I think that the younger generation is very fast and understands everything perfectly. They know everything you know. There is no longer such a gap as before. There is a difference in personal experience, along the way. Someone could not try something, not do something, but we are alike. The point, obviously, is access to information. If it is somehow blocked, a certain number of people will be able to absorb only the official version of events and ideology. And this seems to me the most terrible curtailment of freedom. This is really one of the creepiest things you can do right now. This is very frightening.
MONTY PYTON HAS A VERY FUNNY SKETCH. “THE SOCIETY IS GUILTY! THE SOCIETY SHOULD BE URGENTLY ARRESTED! HELLO, ARE YOU SOCIETY? " YOU DO NOT ARREST EVERYONE
Russia is a country of opportunities. Here the impossible is really possible. Of course, it can be very poorly implemented, crookedly done, and there will definitely be some kind of super loophole, and the VPN will work for everyone all over the country.
ARE YOU NOT FEARED OF PRISON DURING YOUR TOUR?
It seems to me that we are not in a situation in which any measures can be taken against us. Although, of course, when Pussy Riot sang in the temple, no one thought how it all could end. We have an airbag, we are media personalities: we can speak out, many people see it, they pick it up, and everything is made public. And now it is also power, influence. On the other hand, we understand that if they want to do something with us, they will do it. The drugs will be planted, they will be judged. But, probably, we are just a little frostbitten.
PUSSY RIOT IMPACTED YOU IN OUR TIME?
I think they influenced all of us. They went down in the history of art. At that time, everyone who was somehow interested in this world empathized. And when there was already a kopeck piece, Kolya and I followed the trial. But then I didn't know anyone at all. Later I met Nadya at a party.
ARE YOU FRIENDS?
I just don't know what it means to be friends.
WELL, WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND WRITE "WHAT HOW?"
In principle, I don’t have such friends at all. No, there are, of course, but quite a few people.
FROM THE PAST?
No, by the way, I do not communicate with anyone from my first school, second school, or with any such people. It seems that the point is that for some reason they are not particularly ready to communicate with me now. It seems to them that I …
CRAZY BABA WITH BLACK LIPS?
Sometimes some old classmates write me sheets about what I do in general, what kind of horror it is, what happened to me, I was “such a good girl”. I don't even answer, because I can't waste my time and energy on it.
DOES THERE FEEL THAT EVER YOU WILL NOT DO WHAT YOU ARE DOING NOW?
I never thought that I would make music. I always knew that I would be an artist, even if it sounds pretentious, like, I'm an artist. In IC3PEAK, Colin's musical piece. I sing, I come up with vocal melodies, but for me this is just one of the instruments that I still have a bunch of. And maybe there will be music with me, or maybe not. Maybe I'll go into politics.
DO YOU WANT TO GO TO POLITICS?
Kolya and I were invited to a rally against the isolation of the Internet, they offered to push some kind of speech. We are now, in principle, annoyed by this moment: they really want to present us precisely as fashion activists. And we repeat all the time, we are engaged in very different things, we have a bunch of topics to express. Why should we only talk about politics? If suddenly we have a desire, we will express ourselves in an artistic form. We can afford it - and more people will see and hear it. And we will have our own agenda.
WELL AND IF YOU IMAGINE THAT YOU ARE GOING INTO POLITICS, WHAT ARE THE FIRST FIVE REFORMS YOU WOULD PROVIDE TO MAKE EVERYBODY GOOD?
The first point, of course, will be very funny. Shared toilets. We just have these genderless blue toilets. But in general, you need to come up with a plan so that everyone is happy, and there are only five points. Decriminalization of drugs. Abolition of the battering laws. Cancellation of the law on "propaganda of homosexuality" among minors. What is happening in Chechnya is a separate story altogether. We need to release political prisoners. And engage in education. But these are all measures that will do better in the short term. But you have to look more extensively.
WELL, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME, AND AT THE SECOND LET'S LOOK FOR A LOT
And then there's this crazy pension reform that got everyone up and running. But it's so hard to talk about it seriously. Quotas are also needed and equal salaries. 50% of jobs must be occupied by women.
HOW DO YOUR LISTENERS CHANGE? WHAT FEEDBACK DO YOU GET?
Our audience is growing very much. But it is impossible to describe our listener in one word. We do not have a rigid age limit - well, many people are from 17 to 25 years old, but there are people both older and younger. Sometimes seven-year-old children or someone younger who still speaks badly write in direct. I remember myself at the age when the site asks you if you are 18, and you say: "Yes!" There are a lot of girls at the shows now, which is very cool. On the other hand, sometimes I get very worried, because we always have a hard slap and often the first rows are just girls. When the slam starts, they are heavily nailed to the stage, and sometimes I even ask that they behave themselves. On the other hand, it's cool that girls can laugh too.
GIRLS ARE HAPPENING NOW BIG CHANGES IN RUSSIA, HOW DO YOU FEEL THIS CHANGE? FEEL YOURSELF A ROLE MODEL?
The same happens to me, this is my generation. And I don't look from the outside on purpose. But in general, I grew up in a family with only women and a cousin. And the women pulled everything on themselves, they achieved everything themselves, no one ever supported anyone, did not help much. The masculine word has never been final for me. My brother and I have always been on an equal footing, I just perceived people of the opposite sex as people. With the first relationship, I began to understand that everything else is arranged differently. This surprised me and did not suit me. I knew that I wanted it differently - to be reckoned with, so that I could speak out loud in the family and my opinion had some weight. Because it's okay. It is humanly universal. It seems to me that now it comes to everyone: young guys understand that we are all people first of all. There is simply a well-established patriarchal system in which you grow and develop, and it cannot be simply discarded.
WHAT IMPACTED YOU THE MOST?
During puberty, when everyone suddenly starts paying attention to you, you become more than just a person. It turns out that this is a very aggressive world, where you are forced to constantly defend yourself, hide or think about how to walk down the street, roughly speaking, just so that no one bothers you. Whoever I talk to has a lot of stories. Earlier it seemed to me - my God, they tried to shove me into the car, this is what horror!
EVERYONE Tried to Record
Everyone was pinched, grabbed, pinched. This is tough in reality, and we are talking about it so much fun now.
POSTTRAUMATIC SYNDROME. THIS IS ANOTHER QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN WRITING ME FOR MANY YEARS. VERY MANY (AND I'M NOT AN EXCEPTIONAL) LOVE SONGS WITH MISOGINAL TEXTS
I'm collecting a sexist tracklist. You are now asking this question, and I understand that I have the last songs in the playlist - about dudes who are wildly cool, they are *** all in a row and stuff like that.
THIS IS WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS? IT SHOOTS, AT THE INTUITIVE LEVEL, AND YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THE PEOPLE WHO DO IT RAPIDLY PLAY, AND NOT SEVERELY. BOTH FACE AND BOULEVARD DEPO IT IS ABSOLUTELY UNDERSTANDING WHAT PEOPLE'S VIEWS ARE NOT SOME SUEDE ASSHOES. BUT THE CHIPPED BODIES, CONSTANT "S ** AND" AND "I FUCK YOUR BODY" - ALL THIS DOES NOT ADD IN GENERAL. ALL MEN'S TINDER IN RUSSIA - "SKINS PASS", "SHALAVA WITH LIPS", THIS IS EVERYTHING
I didn’t sit in dating applications, but I did a great job at the Rodchenko School about pornography - I combined attractions with pornographic scenes, it was a kind of porn calendar. I've watched so many different pornography that I'm just tired. They joked at me: "Oh, like, cool, you watched porn!" But this did not cause me any excitement or joy.
AND WHAT TO DO WITH "I FUCK YOUR CHICK"?
I tried to do something about it in Sad Bitch. It is clear that this is a drop in the ocean, but I wanted to deprive the word "s ** a" of its current meaning, to brand it up. Well, you called her a bitch, and now she calls herself a bitch - and this is a completely different meaning. She is, to put it bluntly, strong, independent, and f ** k everyone's mouth herself.
AND WHAT THE GREAT AMERICAN WOMEN READING HIP-HOP CALL EACH OTHER C *** MI - IS THIS FOR THE BENEFIT OF NURSING?
It's still the same story. It depends on how you call a bitch. If this is a classic male look, then, probably, no one benefits. But you can also call a man a bitch. If you put a word in a context where bitch is, like in our track, something that you are proud of, then, in principle, okay. You call another woman a bitch and compliment her in this way - you just change the meaning of the word.
DO YOU HAVE A FEELING WHAT IMPACTED EQUALITY IN RUSSIA? FROM ANY FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET FROM THE GIRLS?
They even make tattoos for themselves.
"SAD S ** A"?
"B ** a" just even. When this track came out, many people didn't like it. Someone did not understand him and thought it was an insult, a pure rapper theme, and was disappointed. Someone has been taught all their lives that a girl cannot be called a bitch. Many girls said that this was not a feminist statement, but generally about esotericism. And some boys got wind of the fact that feminist discourse had appeared - and they did not really like it either. But the track will turn out to be cool at the physical level - then people listened to the text.
DO NOT PLAN TO RECORD SUCH AN ALBUM AFTER WHICH THE AMOUNT OF CONSENTED SEX IN RUSSIA WILL INCREASE TEN TIMES, FOR EXAMPLE?
Of course, I want what we do together to have weight and change something. Because, I repeat, this is all for me, first of all, communication and a way to convey something to people with a similar point of view. Make it clear that they are not alone. I have a new text with feminist overtones, it's just that I'm trying to be a little more cunning now. I would like to partisan a little. You can write more subtle texts and still prescribe new values. And this, in my opinion, is better, because it increases the audience.
IS THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN ART WIDER? DOES AN ARTIST HAVE A RIGHT TO A MORE AGGRESSIVE STATEMENT?
I believe I can say anything. Even when the conversation starts about tolerance and offending feelings.
HERE IS A LINE FROM THE SONG: "FUCK WITH ** AT WITHOUT GANDON, AND I ON ** Y". THE TEXT OF THE SONG IS SUCH
Metaphor always creates distance. The artist always has this super-secret weapon - distance. Very often, the work of artists is not separated from their personality, although a person may be of one view, but the work is done completely different. I believe that an artist does not owe anything to anyone, does not have to be sincere, he can come up with anything, say one thing, and think differently.
AND HERE, LET'S SAY THE ARTIST, SINGS IN THE TEXT: "I KEEP WITH MYSELF THAT CANNOT GET OFF ME." AND IN THE INTERVIEW HE SAYS, “WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT WOMEN ARE, AND THERE IS S ** AND”, HOW TO TREAT THIS ARTIST? TO GIVE HIM A DISCOUNT ON AN ARTISTIC GESTURE?
When you insult someone in public, that's a completely different story. You say that there are women who are normal, right, and there are wrong - and here they are. But maybe the person just meant that there are people to whom he treats well, and there are those who are unpleasant to him.
YOU DID A TRACK WITH BOULEVARD DEPO - AND THEY HERE HERE THE SONG "LISTEN, S ** A." SHE IS MONSTER, AND SHE UNDERSTANDING SHAKES - OTHERWISE WHETHER TO SPEAK ABOUT HER. “THREATENED A TEN TIMES, THIS C ** A DIDN'T INSPIRE. I took her to Tuchkovo, threw her bitch DIRECTLY INTO THE PIT”. THAT'S WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THIS?
Well, the artist can say that this is a metaphor for his broken heart.
And stuff like that. But even playing this game, speaking not seriously and through a metaphor, you still work for a discriminatory system. And you join it, support it, and it lives on. This is undeniable. It is clear that this cannot be prohibited - nothing should be prohibited at all. For me, in general, the big question is how to change people's attitudes. I suggest we just make tracks in which we will *** suck the guys for it.
YOU DO NOT ENOUGH SUCH STATEMENTS IN RUSSIAN?
Of course, this is “wrong”. How can you "hurt a man's pride", then men must "provide for our life."
OUR SEXUAL DESIRES AT A MINIMUM
Yes, first of all, they won't stand if they hear such a thing. And secondly, they are earners, they must be cared for and cherished. It seems to me that everything comes from this. From understanding, roughly speaking, what "your place" is. And everyone holds on to these places, and nothing changes. And when the changes are significant, there will probably be corresponding changes in the texts.
I'M ASKING A UGLY BUT FAVORITE QUESTION ABOUT MONEY. DO THE BRANDS OFFER YOU?
We are a rather specific project with complex aesthetics.
WELL "BLACK HOODIES" WILL COME TO YOU AND SAY: "NASTYA AND KOLYA, BE OUR FACE"
A black hoodie can be anything we know. I mean, not every brand will take on us. Because we have a certain reputation. We are not particularly offered - what can we integrate into? I'm not interested in cigarettes, alcohol, or clothes - Kolya is exactly the same. We understand that this is not free money, why do we need it? We don't want to walk under anybody's logo.
ARE YOU WORKING WITH CHARITY?
I have not had such an experience, although in general I have been thinking about it lately. For example, there are centers to help women survivors of violence. In general, it seems to me that this is an important human experience. And then there was the story with Husky's money - he shared it with us. And we sent them to everyone who suffered some losses in our tour: to the penalty areas where there were problems, Mediazone, Agora. To everyone who supported us, for which many thanks to them - it's very cool that we have such people. You asked why we kept such an icy calmness - we really had support, we knew that we were not alone, the audience was very supportive. They kept going to our concerts. We had a story when a boy was knocked down, his arms were twisted and so on. Or when the girl came with her mother and some kind of paper was written to her mother in social services. But our people all walked - and of course, this gave us superpowers. So many people walk and support you, write and respond - you are filled with their confidence.
DO YOU HAVE A RUNNED NEED TO MAKE DIRECT POLITICAL STATEMENTS TO THE AUDIENCE?
To speak from the podium - no. But I have a position. All prohibitions seem to me inappropriate and abnormal. In addition, everyone is now being shut down under Article 228. Of course, drugs can destroy life, if they are used unknowingly, and ruin life and kill. But it's important to talk about all of these things. It is necessary that people who face this problem themselves understand that they have where to go and where to get help. Because more often than not they are not considered people at all - you are a "drug addict", a lost being. But it is often difficult to talk about the patient even to his own people. And we need to raise these complex topics. But don't preach. People are not stupid, and they can figure out what they want on their own.
AND YOU DON'T FEEL THAT WHAT YOU WILL DO, IT WILL BE A DROP IN THE SEA?
No, I'm optimistic, I guess. Now there are a lot of us. People are becoming more open. There is a fear to do something first, to try - what if they don't support you? But in the end you do and everyone supports you. And it gives strength. You understand that everyone wanted the same, they were just afraid.
