According to Kommersant, citing a study by DSM Group, sales of homeopathic medicines in Russia in the period from January to May 2019 decreased by 14.4% compared to the same period last year. The publication notes that the indicators could have been influenced by criticism of homeopathy from the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to the agency, pharmacy sales revenue in the period from January to May this year decreased by 4.6% to 3.35 billion rubles. DSM Group CEO Sergei Shulyak said that the opinion of scientists and doctors influences consumers who choose therapeutic drugs. He also notes that the drug market in the first five months of 2019 grew by 1.2% and amounted to 415.8 billion rubles.
However, another reason for the refusal from homeopathic remedies could be the increase in prices in this segment, since over the indicated period the weighted average price per unit increased by 11.5% and amounted to about 469 rubles. At the same time, most of the drugs on the market are not manufactured in Russia. For example, Otsillococcinum is produced by the French company Boiron, Traumeel is manufactured by the German company Heel, and Mastodinon is manufactured by Bionorica.
