For the last few year s the world saw many new product formats, including foam products. Of course, this is not a sensation: foams for styling and shaving were in our life, it seemed, always. But now the mousse can be applied to all parts of the body: first wash it, then moisturize, apply SPF, nourish and style your hair, brush your teeth.

It should be noted right away that cosmetics in the form of foam have the same properties as similar products, because their effect depends on the formula and active ingredients, and not on the presentation. But at the same time, the foam has several advantages: it is more evenly distributed over the skin, and due to its less dense texture it is absorbed faster. Doctors use these properties of the foam in topical medicines with corticosteroids, antifungal, anti-inflammatory ingredients, for local anesthesia, and with antiseptic agents. But what categories of products in the form of foams have appeared in ordinary cosmetic stores lately.

The most extensive group of products in this format is the foams for washing. It would seem, what is the innovation? After all, ordinary gels can be foamed, and special nets have even come to us from Japan, which help to make a thick dense mousse. And yet there is a difference. Cosmetic technologist Ni'Kita Wilson says that because of the design of the dispenser, which itself makes the liquid foam, manufacturers can add fewer foaming agents to the product, choosing the most gentle ones. So ready-made products in this format are a good choice for those with sensitive and reactive skin.

Weleda brand expert Maria Kondratyeva tells about this, adding: “An important point: any foaming products should be applied to the skin in the form of foam. However, few consumers thoroughly recycle the same gel for washing - because of this, the product works worse, and the risk of skin irritation increases. Ready-made foam solves this problem. " By the way, beard owners may like products in this format, since the foam is washed off the hair more easily than its counterparts.

The second most popular group of new foaming products are face masks. Most often, these products are sold in the form of a gel or cream, which, when applied, begin to bubble. There are also fabric masks that foam when removed from the package: these products are pressurized with oxygen, which is released on the skin surface when the product is applied in a thin layer. Foaming agents can also be added to the mask - just like in washing products - so that the resulting foam is more intense and lasts longer.

According to the idea, in addition to the entertainment effect, oxygen should bring additional benefits, but not everything is so simple. Cosmetic technologist Stephen Allen Co says the idea of using oxygen in face masks came from clinical practice, where oxygen helps heal wounds and stimulates collagen production by increasing blood microcirculation - provided that all this happens in special chambers. Oxygen devices at the beautician work according to a similar principle, with the help of which the concentration of gas on the skin surface during the procedure reaches 95%. At the same time, the concentration of oxygen in the air in the room is about 21%, and oxygen from the mask quickly flies into the air - so very little gets into the upper layer of the epidermis.

There are studies (for example, this) that prove that when applied to the skin, oxygen really penetrates its barrier, improving blood circulation, but a systematic review of forty-two works calls this information nothing but anecdotal. Likewise, she does not believe in the positive effect of bubbles from Paul Begun - while the famous New York cosmetologist Joanna Vargas is convinced of the opposite. Be that as it may, first of all it is worth looking at the active ingredients in the composition of such funds and counting on their effect.

If in the category of products for the face has not yet covered all the niches (foaming lotions are about to begin to appear), then in body care you can almost completely switch to all kinds of foams, if your heart desires. There are foaming shower gels that work just like foams for the face and light lotions that can be applied quickly all over the body. At the same time, technologist Ni'Kita Wilson notes that due to the less amount of water in the composition, they are absorbed faster than their usual counterparts.

Most body foams can be found in the self-tanning segment. Almost every brand now has such, since the mousse format helps to apply the product as evenly as possible - and again quickly. At the same time, perhaps, the foam is most useful in sun protection products. Not everyone enjoys fiddling with sticky, full-body sunscreen lotions, so light sunscreen mousses can make the procedure more enjoyable. True, it is worth remembering that even in this case, you need to apply enough funds - otherwise there will be no sense from it.

Many foaming products have also been invented for hair care. There are new products for the scalp: dry shampoos and peels in the form of mousses, which are distributed evenly - much like shaving foam on the bristles. For hair along the entire length, there are now conditioners-mousses and masks-mousses. They are, according to technologist Ni'Kita Wilson, best for those with dry and fine hair. These products usually contain fewer oils, so they moisturize your hair well without weighing it down.

Styling foams have also changed - now they are serum foams that are designed not only to keep the hairstyle, but also to smooth the hair. “These products differ from classic mousses in a more creamy texture due to the caring components. They are more evenly distributed throughout the hair, while the effect of volume remains in place,”says Giuseppe Castaldi, hairdresser at Aldo Coppola Seasons.

Oral foams

Finally, the foam reached in the form of rinses and to the teeth - manufacturers claim that it is enough to hold such products in the mouth for a few seconds. Splat Innovation Manager Anatoly Vilikotsky explains the mechanism of action as follows: the foam is evenly distributed over the oral cavity, surrounding all the teeth at the same time, which makes the soft plaque dissolve faster and more efficiently. However, it must be remembered that any such product is only a pleasant addition to basic oral hygiene and cannot replace brushing your teeth and using an irrigator.
