There are very interesting types of needlework. These include embroidery with ribbons on the shell, decoupage eggs, shell mosaics. Craftsmen make elegant things from this waste material, carving on it with special tools.
Many do not know what masterpieces are created from the shell of chicken eggs. You can decorate it with charming embroidery with threads and ribbons, use it for decoupage and creating mosaics, for children's crafts and much more.
Egg embroidery - master class
To recreate this beauty, you will need:
- an egg without mechanical damage;
- small drill or engraver;
- thin drill;
- protective glasses;
- sponge;
- grinding attachment;
- cutting disc;
- embroidery needles;
- carbon copy;
- floss threads.
First you need to take out the contents of the egg. To do this, put a cutting disc on a mini drill, cut the egg from the blunt side, pour the contents onto a bowl. You can also extract it in another way.
If you do not have a mini drill, then make a needle along the hole from the sharp and blunt end of the egg, blow out its contents.
Rinse the shells well inside and out, then dry. Make as many blanks as needed.
The egg shells should dry very well. To give it more strength, you can cover it from the inside with PVA glue. When he dries up, it's time to start the next stage. Using the sander attachment on the small drill, make the edges of the shell smoother.
Take a sponge, cut out the central part of it, so that you can then put the workpiece here. This will make it more convenient to work.
Choose a pattern that will soon decorate the egg. Transfer it to the shell with carbon paper.
To make the eggshell look the way you want, mark the key holes using the thinnest drill bit on the mini drill. You need to set the lowest speed so as not to damage the shell.
Take the needle that you will be embroidering with on the egg, see if it goes well through the holes. If not, then use the same tool to make holes with a slightly larger diameter.
Insert a thread into the needle, tie a knot. To prevent the thread from popping out, you can glue the knot to the back of the shell. We continue to decorate the egg further.
Embroider on this base with one or more thread colors. When you change them, stick the ponytail to the back.
Bead embroidery is very interesting. To do this, you need to use special needles. Beads are strung on such, then they decorate the surface of the shell.
See how to decorate the shell with beads if you create bunches of grapes from it. These beads are sewn onto the shell surface. Then, above them you need to sew grape leaves from satin ribbons. After that, such a masterpiece is decorated with ribbons of other shades so that bright flowers appear on the surface.
With the help of red beads, you can make clusters of mountain ash or embroider them using threads of this color. Branches of this tree are created from brown threads, leaves from green threads. See how beautiful this egg embroidery looks.
If you love flowers, use this theme in your artwork. First, use a carbon copy to transfer the drawing to the surface, then make suitable holes. As you can see, they are mostly small, round, but there are also slightly elongated ones.
After securing the end of the thread on the back side, bring it to the right side and start embroidering through the marked holes. The simplest stitches can be used here. For example, satin stitch embroidery looks great.
After the flower of one color has been embroidered, proceed to decorate the other using a thread of a different color. Make the leaves from the green floss. When the surface of the egg is formed, then make a hole in it on top, insert the tape, gluing it to the shell.
From one testicle, you can do not one, but two jobs at once. And how, you will learn this from the next small master class.
DIY egg decorations
To decorate the shell in this way, you will need:
- egg;
- small drill with a disc;
- threads;
- needle;
- glue;
- lacing;
- grinding attachment.
- Use a marker to mark where you will cut the egg to cut it in half. Do this work on a deep plate to pour the contents into.
- Wash the resulting blanks, dry them, make the edges smoother with a grinding attachment on a drill. Transfer the design to the surface of the shell using carbon paper, or draw by hand using a water-washable marker.
- Use a thin drill to mark the holes you will embroider through. You need to embroider each half of the shell, taking the thread of the desired color. See how they look on the front and back.
- Use super glue or a hot gun to secure the lacing to the edges of the shells.
Here's how to decorate eggs in a slightly different way.
For him, the technique of embroidery of the shell with ribbons is used. But what materials were taken:
- egg;
- cardboard;
- braid;
- narrow satin ribbons;
- needle;
- scissors;
- mini drill with attachments.
Crafting workshop:
- First, the egg is prepared in the same way as in the previous case. To the size of the slot, you need to cut an oval out of cardboard. A braid is glued to its edges. Insert the thread into the needle, pierce the top of the cardboard blank to make a loop of threads.
- You need to embroider with ribbons according to the marked markings. If you want, shape the edges of the cardboard blank with pieces of shells, gluing them here.
- Attach a decorated cardboard oval to the back of the shell and you can hang an egg decoration.
Shell mosaic
If in the process of work several shells are damaged, do not throw them away. Get the job done using the mosaic technique.
It will require:
- thick cardboard or tile for tiles or other surface;
- eggshell;
- primer;
- rubber glue or PVA;
- acrylic paints or gouache;
- brushes;
- varnish;
- pencil;
- scissors.
Adhere to the following sequence in work:
- If cardboard is used, then you can pre-paint it and let the paint dry. If this is a tile, you need to degrease it, prime it, then use the prepared surface.
- Paint some of the shells brown, some white, and some green. Egg shells can be chopped by hand or using scissors. Or cover it with a napkin, press it several times with a spoon or a wooden pestle.
- Another way to crush the shells is to put them between two sheets of paper, roll them with a rolling pin. All that remains is to remove the film from the inside of these elements, which will now separate well from them.
- Draw with a marker or felt-tip pen on the surface of the border of the caps and legs 1 and 2 of the mushroom, greenery. You can do this work with your child, he will be happy to glue the shells. Let him attach brown instead of a hat, white on the leg, and green as grass. To do this, you need to use PVA or rubber glue.
- When this bonding agent dries, it will be possible to varnish the surface to make the work more durable.
You can also make a photo frame from egg shells.
If you want to transform an ordinary cardboard box, then use the same material. See what kind of shell mosaic will turn out.
Using this same technique, you can turn glass bottles into beautiful vases. It is better to take an interestingly shaped wine container. First, they wash it, at the same time remove the labels. When the surface dries, it is degreased and painted. Against such a background, mosaic elements from a white shell will look good. It doesn't even need to be painted.
Vases are also decorated using the same technology.
Children can make together with you not only such, but also other crafts.
You need to know how to prepare the starting material so that the shell does not crack, the product is durable. Make two holes with an awl on the opposite side of one egg. Blow out its contents. If necessary, make the holes a little large, rinse the inside of the egg through them.
Let the workpiece dry. When the water has evaporated, pour glue or acrylic varnish inside. After any of these solutions have dried, you can begin the main work.
The children will make such animals from eggs, as in the photo, if they paint the blanks in the desired color, but some can be left white.
- To make a pig, it is enough to attach pink plasticine ears, hooves, tail, piglet.
- To make a bird, you can glue wings, a tail out of paper, and a tuft of feathers. Eyes can be drawn or sculpted from plasticine.
- Elements of a funny clown are made of paper and then glued onto a white egg. This toy is perfect for a Christmas tree, if you glue a thread in the form of a loop on the clown's cap, glue the headdress itself on one side of the egg, and attach a corrugated collar on the other.
Modern craftswomen use a very interesting technology, while decoupage and shell mosaic are combined.
The crushed shell must be attached with PVA to a pre-primed wooden box. When the surface is dry, a thin napkin or a special picture for decoupage is glued on top, waiting for the PVA glue to dry. After that, two or three layers of varnish are applied, after which the creation of the product is completed.
You can decorate the plate in the same way.
Here's what you need to create such a masterpiece:
- plate;
- eggshell;
- napkins;
- water-based varnish;
- PVA glue;
- sponge;
- degreasing agent.
Sequence of creation:
- First, degrease the surface of the plate, then glue the crushed shells on it, placing them closer to each other. Dip a sponge in white acrylic paint and gently blot it over the shell. This paint dries quickly, and after 20 minutes you can proceed to the next stage.
- Remove only the top layer from the napkin, you only need it. Since this paper product is very thin, do not apply glue to it, but to the surface of the plate, decorated with napkins.
- Let it all dry, then cover the piece with three coats of water-based varnish, letting each dry.
Shell carving
This art has centuries-old roots; even in antiquity, Chinese craftsmen were engaged in egg shell carving. Now such things are kept in museums, and masters sell their works at a very high price.
So, the cost of one shell from an egg, processed using the carving technique, can be several hundred dollars. Anyone can master this lesson, but first you need to cut out the simplest drawings and be prepared for the fact that there will be spoiled shells.
- First you need to prepare the egg for engraving. To do this, make a puncture on both sides, blow out its contents. You can prepare the egg in another way.
- Make a hole in the shell, remove the contents of the egg using a syringe. You can put a thin rubber tube on this tool.
- Rinse the shells using a syringe or just under running water. Then rinse the inside of the shell with the solution, adding a little Fairy to it.
- It is advisable to remove the inner film, as its edges may peek out sloppily from the holes you make in the shell. To do this, make a solution of whiteness, place the workpiece there for about 3 hours.
- Then it is washed with water, the remnants of the film can be removed from the hole with tweezers.
Here's what you need to cut in the shell:
- raw eggs;
- children's syringe;
- cold water;
- protective mask;
- bowl;
- carbon copy or modern transfer paper;
- vinyl gloves;
- a rotating tool (mini drill, drill or professional manicure kit);
- acrylic or other varnish;
- transparent nail polish;
- soft brush.
Instructions for creating:
- After the surface is prepared, it is best for beginners to harden it. Then there will be fewer spoiled shells. Paint one half of the egg with nail polish, for example, placing it in a glass or placing it on a special stand. When the varnish dries on this side, turn the egg over, cover it with this substance on the other side.
- When the surface dries up here too, you can apply a pattern to it using carbon paper.
- Before starting cutting, put on vinyl gloves, protect your respiratory system with a bandage, as there will be quite a lot of dust, which is harmful.
- Start drilling small holes. If you go directly to large ones, then the workpiece will be less durable and may break. Hold the egg firmly, quite firmly, but do not squeeze it too much or it will crack.
- Gloves are only suitable for those that fit the hand well, if you put on more spacious ones, they can wrap around the drill and cause injury. Handle the tool with care to avoid accidents as well.
- When the egg is finished, coat it with varnish to add shine. Allow your item to dry and then give it away or sell it.
The following tips will come in handy for those who are just starting to master shell carving.
If the drill is too thin and does not hold well in the chuck, wind a few turns of copper wire around the top of the drill.
Goose eggs are stronger, if you can get them, then work with them. And ostrichs are even larger and larger, they have rather strong shells. It is even easier to arrange such. But they are not cheap, so beginners can be advised to work with chicken, the shell of which is waste material.
If you still have questions, you will find the answers to them in the video clips. The first shows how to prepare the shell.
