It is not difficult to sew a coat with your own hands. Depending on your experience, you can choose a simpler model or a slightly more complex one.
How to make a warm poncho with your own hands?
To shine in a fashionable outfit, it is not at all necessary to build a pattern according to the figure, painstakingly stitch in, and process the sleeves. Sewing a coat like a poncho is a great option for beginners.
To create this, you need a minimum of measurements:
- spread your arms in different directions, determine the distance from the elbow of one to the elbow of the other (A);
- place the beginning of the measuring tape at the shoulder, lower it, determine the desired length (B).
Then follow the instructions:
- On newspapers or graph paper glued together, tracing paper, draw a rectangle with sides A B. In the center of this line, mark an oval for the neck, but it should be slightly larger than it.
- Draw a straight line from the oval downwards - this is the front bar, here the fastener will be located.
- Sew on the sides, leaving the arm hole unsewn.
- Cut out 2 ribbons 3 cm wide. They are the same length as the front plank. Stitch them to the right and left on the wrap line. To process the front cut of the coat, first fold the cut tape with the placket line with the right sides, stitch, iron the seam. Unscrew the tape, fold the straps on the wrong side, sew.
- Hem the bottom of the garment. Stitch in square pockets. To do this, cut out a rectangle from the fabric, fold it on top, make a seam. Then fold the pocket on 3 sides by 7 mm. Stitch in place.

To do this, you need a coat pattern. If you know how to design, create it yourself. If not, you can redo the pattern from the magazine or contact the atelier. Here's what you need to make these outerwear:
- coat fabric - fine wool 1, 8 meters;
- lining - 1.6 m;
- glue doublerin;
- threads to match;
- scissors;
- chalk or dry remnants.
Before sewing a coat, dampen the fabric, iron it along the lengthwise. Then the finished product will fit perfectly even after washing, ironing.
Lay the details of the pattern on the fabric, outline them, marking the undercuts. Cut by adding seam allowances:
- for slices - 1, 5 cm;
- for the neckline - 1 cm;
- on the hem of the sleeves - 3 cm;
- to turn the bottom - 4 cm.
To prevent the canvas from pulling, make notches at the seams. They are marked with small chalk lines on the pattern.
Cut out the same details from the lining as from the main fabric, but on a shelf without a hem and you do not need to cut out the neckline for the back from it. In the middle of the back, leave a fold, the width of which is 3 cm. Do not forget about the seam allowances - 1.5 cm.
From the glue doublerin, laying out the parts along the share, cut them out without allowances for the seams. Here are the details you will have from this material:
- facing the neck of the back;
- shelf with picks;
- shoulder back;
- bow - 2 parts;
- collar - 2 pieces.
The same coat pattern will help to create these details. Glue the dublerin to the bottom of the sleeves, hem.
After you have cut the details, it's time to sew the coat.
1. Sew on the undercuts that are located at the waist and chest. Iron them towards the center and up, respectively.
2. Fold the side piece with the shelf, sew them together, leaving a hole for the pockets.
3. To make a pocket, sew two parts of it. Fold the pocket with the sides of the slit on the main fabric, aligning these fabrics with the right sides, sew on the wrong side.
4. To avoid showing the welt pockets, iron the base fabric on them a little, make the top and bottom along a small horizontal stitch.
5. Sew a seam on the back, shoulders, iron them.
6. In the same way, you need to sew a coat from a lining fabric.
7. Sew the back trim to the hem, iron the seams. Cut off the allowances, leaving 5mm.
8. Fold the 2 collar pieces with the right sides, sew them on the sides and top. Iron.
9. Place the collar between the main coat and the hem, stitch, iron with a steamer.
10. To sew the sleeves, stitch the elbow seams, leaving 13 cm of the slit free for the time being.
11. Iron the allowances. Press the slot on the front. Iron the hem allowances.
12. Stitch the allowances with these corners.
13. Decorate the bottom of the sleeves by sewing the main one with the lining fabric. Leave an open section in the left sleeve seam at this point to be able to turn the coat inside out. Iron this part of the product, stitch the remaining free part at the bottom of the sleeve.
14. To make the sleeves fit well, we smoothen each one at the top. Insert the appropriate armholes, aligning the right sides of these items, sew on the wrong side.
15. Sew the sleeves from the lining to it in the same way. If you like a coat with shoulder pads, sew them to the wrong side of the armholes at this stage. You can buy them or sew them yourself.
16. Stitch the lining to the collars, the neck of the coat.
17. If you have a tool to secure the buttons to the canvas, make a clasp from them. If not, buttons will do.
18. To sew the coat further, sew the bow details.
19. Sew its middle to the right side of the bow with a blind stitch.
20. Turn the coat inside out. At the bottom, pin the shelf and back with a lining and hem. We sew with a blind stitch.
21. Turn the product through the open seam on the sleeve, sew it on and press it on the bottom.
22. On the sleeves, mark the place for three loops, overcast them on a typewriter, sew on the buttons.
