What is needed for satin stitch embroidery?

The thinner the fabric, the thinner the needle. But the size of the eye must be such that the selected thread will pass through it.
There are many threads. To fold the fabric, take threads that are identical to a specific fabric. Sewing threads are used for sewing finishing. To copy the design, use a color of basting thread that will stand out well on the fabric. For decorative embroidery, for example, cotton, woolen, dyed, fringed threads, as well as mercerized silk are used.
Embroidery fabrics can be divided into 2 groups: plain and countable. Smooth fabrics include dress and furniture fabrics, for example: satin, silk, velvet, woolen fabrics. Counted fabrics help to sew the same size stitches at the same spacing, as they have the same number of threads vertically and horizontally. This makes it easier to count threads where this embroidery technique is required.
To stretch the fabric well, use frames. Most often, an embroidery hoop is used for this.

Before embroidering, the fabric must be ironed from the inside out so that there is no distortion of the embroidery on the finished product. This is especially true for thin canvases. Before you are the representatives of the counting fabric. They are used for cross stitching.

The “Aida” fabric is designed in such a way that the squares are clearly visible on it, they allow you to easily count the threads, and the small holes in their corners help to easily insert the needle. The linen (or cotton) fabric shown in the figure has a uniform weave of fibers, a sparse structure, which makes it easier to count the threads.

As you already know, there are 2 main types of embroidery - satin stitch and cross stitch. Let's dwell on the first one. These are classic options, but the craftswomen have mastered embroidery with ribbons, beads, sequins, such works also look amazing.

Satin stitching lessons for beginners

This technique allows you to decorate bed linen, bags, clothes, tablecloths, and create amazing paintings. In short, the embroidery technology of this type consists in transferring the pattern to the canvas, overlapping its outlines and filling the art with thread seams.

Here are several types of this needlework:

White embroidery. As the name implies, only white threads are used for the pattern. First, make a contour forward with a needle; then, flooring; then the stitches are embroidered.
For satin surface you need to make small stitches with thin threads. Each subsequent stitch starts from the center of the previous row. As a result, on the seamy side there will be many short paths of threads, and on the front side there will be a one-piece smooth pattern.
V Russian smooth surface the stitches are sewn horizontally or vertically with straight stitches. A gap of 2 threads is left between the adjacent ones, which is sewn up when the needle moves in the opposite direction.
Art embroidery is the creation of a flat oblique surface without flooring. Needlewomen mix threads of different shades to make a smooth transition of colors.

For volumetric embroidery, double patterns are used, for example:

stitch with flooring.

There are double patterns of the following types:

"Long stitch fastened" embroider petals and leaves. First, stitches are laid along the length of the sheet, then the long thread is fixed with short stitches so that the canvas does not shine through.
For creating "Narrow roller" first sew a needle-forward stitch, then make small vertical stitches.
"Pyshechka". First, you need to embroider along the arc of the circle forward with a needle, after which horizontal stitches are made inside the circle, from its borders, and vertical stitches are sewn on top. In this case, the stitches should fit snugly together.
For "Padded stitch" first, the entire pattern must be sewn with small stitches forward with a needle, and then the pattern must be sewn with double-sided satin stitches with horizontal, vertical or oblique stitches.

Also, for satin stitching, single patterns are used, such as:

verkhshov;
nodule;
fastened loop;
chain.

They differ in the following features:

"Verkhshov" - for it we lay stitches from top to bottom: from one end you need to make a vertical stitch, remove the needle to the front side next to the place of its exit. Then - make a stitch in the opposite direction, based on the same principle.
To execute "Knot", pierce the fabric from the inside with a needle, bring it to your face. Make a few stitches here close to each other, holding them and at the same time pulling the needle to the wrong side to form a raised knot.
You will succeed "chain", if you put the thread on the needle in the form of a loop.
"Loop attached" decorate flower petals. This pattern is performed, like a chain, but with a small vertical stitch, which must be fixed in the middle of the petal.

Flower embroidery technique

For this creative work you will need:

drawing;
white fabric;
threads of different colors;

embroidery hoops;
scissors.

In order to embroider flowers, you will need their scheme. You can depict these representatives of the flora yourself or use a carbon copy. Ready-made thermal sketches are also sold, which are ironed to the fabric with an iron. Using any of the methods presented, transfer the drawing to the canvas.

We start to embroider from the narrow tip of the leaf. First, cover the needle forward with stitches, placing them slightly obliquely, one side of the sheet, and then the other.

Embroider the stem with small, short stitches. Decorate the flower cup with the same green threads, with a needle-forward stitch.

But the flower itself needs to be embroidered as follows. For it, you need to choose 3 similar tones, for example, flesh, pink and red. First embroider with flesh, then pink, and finally red for smooth transitions in the three shades.

The next master class will teach you how to embroider an iris flower. If you take a knitted fabric, then be sure to put non-woven fabric on the wrong side so that it gives the fabric the necessary rigidity.

It is best to use a floss, but if you are confident in your skills, you can use silk threads. Then the drawing will turn out to be even more beautiful and will shimmer.

Redraw the iris onto the fabric. Pull the fabric tightly over the embroidery hoop.

Take a dark lilac thread, with it you will sew the hem of the lower petals. In such works, the seamy side and the front side must be done carefully. Therefore, it is not necessary to secure the thread with a knot. Let's do it differently.

Pierce the canvas with a needle, bring the thread to your face and leave a small ponytail here. Hold it with your finger as you start to embroider. As you continue to work, this end of thread will be secured with the stitches that you will continue to sew. We embroider with a simple satin stitch, then the wrong side and the face will look the same. First, decorate the edges of the petal with dark lilac thread. Sew the stitches at an angle, parallel to each other. Leave some gaps in between to fill them in with lighter thread. With the help of it we embroider inside the petal.

Follow the same principle for the larger iris petals.
