Before creating it, you need to prepare:
- the cloth;
- threads;
- a suitable sewing machine needle;
- pattern;
- scissors;
- tailor's pins;
- crayon or disappearing marker.
For a prom dress, you need to buy an elegant fabric. These include chiffon and silk. Chiffon flows beautifully, but it is not easy for beginners to work with such material. For inexperienced seamstresses, silk is more suitable. There are many varieties of such matter. You can buy satin, chunky, or thinner.
Thick silk taffeta keeps its shape, drapes well, does not slip out from under the machine's foot. Beginners should pay attention to such a canvas. Find the right thread. They should match the color of the material, be thin but strong. Silk fabrics should be cut with special silk scissors.
For a typewriter, it is better to buy a thread of a Microtex needle. They have well-sharpened ends and will not leave significant holes in the seam.
If you have a regular needle, then take a fine # 60–70. This is suitable for silk fabrics.
The canvas must be prepared before cutting. To do this, it is soaked in water, to which 1 tbsp is added. l. a spoonful of vinegar. Then, during subsequent washings, the silk fabric will not fade or lose color. Squeeze it slightly, then dry it until wet and iron it. If you have satin silk, then do not twist this when doing push-ups.
Now you know what you need to sew a prom dress. You can start cutting it. In this case, it is a dress cut off at the waist with a fluffy tatyanka skirt. For it, you will need a front and back pattern. The front is one-piece and the back is in two parts. Pay attention to the darts, they need to be stitched.
The following prom dress pattern will do.
Then the skirt will be flared, consisting of several wedges. The darts of the bodice are on the shoulder and below, and on the back - only below. You can make the back part without darts, and so that it fits well, the right and left halves consist of two parts.
If the fabric is translucent, then you need to sew a lined dress. The lining is also created according to the main pattern. If the shelf and back are one-piece, then put the patterns of these parts on the fabric folded in half. Pin the paper templates to the canvas and cut out a little on all sides for seam allowances. Now you need to remove the pins and sew folds along the marked lines in each of the 4 parts.
Since silk fabric is very delicate, so that it does not crumble, it is better to immediately process the stitched seams using a French stitch. See how to do it.
The blue line in this photo represents the final seam. But first, you will make an auxiliary one. To do this, fold the two canvases with the wrong sides to each other and make a line on the face, retreating to the cut point of 5 mm. Make a seam. In this photo, he is lilac.
Now turn the fabric inside out and press the seam to one side.
At a distance of 7 mm from the resulting fold on the wrong side, you need to make the next seam.
Press it to one side and see how the seam looks from the wrong side and the right side.
Use it to sew darts on sheer and thin fabrics. First you need to mark the dart with a basting stitch.
Sew parallel to the basting, backing 5 mm inward from it.
Cut off the excess. Turn the fabric over so that the wrong side is facing out and sew another stitch.
Now you can compare what a regular dart looks like with the one you made using a French seam and cutting off the excess.
When you sew a fitted prom dress, you will need to sew a zipper into the sidewall. To prevent the fabric from stretching in this place, you need to stitch the regalin here too.

To do this, you just need to iron the seam to one side. A fluffy skirt is needed for such a dress. From above it is smoothed. To do this, sew a double stitch with large stitches, then pull the thread to gather the top of the skirt.

As you can see, this consists of a one-piece shelf, two back parts, two sleeves. The skirt is very interesting here. First you need to cut a truncated oval from the fabric. Where this detail is smaller will be the front of the skirt. At the back, it is longer and flows beautifully.
You can make a straight skirt for a dress and sew such an interesting peplum to it.
The pattern is given below. As you can see, there is a straight skirt at the top with darts. They need to be sewn and ironed. Then the details of the skirt are sewn in pairs. At the back it consists of two parts, at the top there is a clasp and a wide belt. Under it you need to hem the peplum, also having previously made folds on it.

How to sew a petticoat with your own hands?
This model will require quite a lot of fabric. But on the other hand, such a petticoat will have a shape and will be very magnificent. You will need four and a half meters of 3 m wide canvas.
You will sew gathered strips of fabric onto the base, which is a half-sun skirt. In this photo you can see how big it should be, how many frills you need.
R1 is obtained if you add 10 cm to the volume of the hips and divide the resulting value by the number Pi (3, 14). And R2 comes out if you add the length of the skirt to R1. When calculating the number of shuttlecocks, first mark 10-15 cm for the belt. You will not sew them here. Now look at how many rows of shuttlecocks you need. It depends on the length of the skirt. The lower one will be the shortest, and each subsequent one is longer than the previous one. This can be seen schematically in the following photo.
This cut is suitable for soft batting. If it is semi-rigid or rigid, then you need to make single frills, sequentially sewing them to the base of the half-sun.
First you need to cut out the first frill and gather it up. If the length is not enough, you need to sew one frill from several strips. Depending on the desired splendor of the skirt, each frill should be 2–4 times larger than the final one. Sew the parts with a typewriter, placing a seam down the middle of the frill. Now pull on the thread, you get this detail.
Fold horizontally in half to make a double piece from one strip. After that, you will sew it onto the base.
A prom dress will be awesome if you keep acting like that. Now you need to climb higher along the base and stitch the next part, which will already be twice the size of the previous one.

Cut out a wide elastic to fit your waist, sew in the center, and stitch to the top of the petticoat.
There is also an interesting way to make the skirt splendid. To do this, use a regilin tape.
Check out some of its uses. Regilin is a synthetic tape that can be of different stiffness and width.
It is also soft, the width of which varies from one and a half meters to 10 cm.
There are two ways to sew the Regilin - closed and open. Its choice depends on the place where the tape will be sewn and on how hard the bottom of a particular part should be. If you decide to make a prom dress with a flounce along the neckline, you can strengthen it with a regilin. So that this auxiliary part is not visible, you need to sew the regilin in a closed way. To do this, tuck the bottom, making an allowance that is equal to the width of the data of the regilin tape. Add 1 cm more.
Roll up the hem of the frill. Do this again so that the width of the frill is equal to the width of the regilin, iron it.
Now insert the regilin tape into this hem and stitch it.

Now check out the second example. In this case, the regilin will be sewn in an open way.
So that the regilin is not noticeable, choose it to match the fabric. Place this tape on the bottom of the part on the face, stitch here, stepping back from the cutting line of 5 mm.
Now wrap the fabric allowance over the Regilin tape, iron and stitch.
If you are planning to make a sun-flared skirt made of thick fabric for a prom dress, then use the following method. First you need to sweep the bottom, then put a regilin strip on the front side and stitch it here, stepping back 5-7 mm from the bottom.
Sew an adhesive strip to the other side of the regilin. When you tuck the bottom of the product, the glue strip will stick into place, and the regilin will hardly be noticeable.
If you need to decorate a fluffy skirt or dress with a beautiful flounce, then use the following method.
The bottom needs to be reinforced with a 10 cm wide strip of regilin, placing it between the lining and the top of the skirt. To do this, cut out the lining according to the pattern of the skirt, fold these two parts with the front sides and sew from below.
Trim the seam allowances so they are 7 mm wide and overlap them from the side of the skirt. Attach it here, 1mm from the edge.
Fold the backing piece down and stitch it 1 mm back from the edge.
Turn the lining to the wrong side of the dress, iron it. Then the lining can be sewn onto the waist of the skirt.
There is another way to make a skirt with fluffy flounces. To do this, use a fishing line instead of regilin.
The line should be 2-10 mm in diameter. First, you need to bend the bottom of the skirt by 5-10 mm, and then put the fishing line into the formed fold and stitch it with a not wide zigzag. In this case, you need to stretch the fabric under the machine's foot. The more you stretch, the more significant the curl at the edge will be.

Kindergarten prom dress
The young princess will simply shine in such a dress. A special highlight of the dress is the skirt. She is a six-blade. See how to build a skirt pattern for a girl, which has the following measurements:
- height 116 cm;
- waist circumference 55 cm;
- chest circumference 57 cm.
One wedge turns out to be 70 cm long. Above its arc is 16 cm, and below it is 68 cm.
Now you need to outline the finished pattern in order to know where you will sew the shuttlecocks and in what sequence.
Draw 15 lines on one wedge. You will be sewing vertical shuttlecocks to the red and blue lines. See how to build them.
To do this, you need to cut out such rings and cut them with scissors on one side. The width of these shuttlecocks is 10 cm, and then you will need to sew them behind the inner sector of the circle.
Sew the skirt into a six-piece.
Cut out the shuttlecocks. For the blue sector, you will get 96, for the green sector, 48, for the red sector. We combine two blue shuttlecocks to make one from each pair. All green shuttlecocks need to be sewn together to make a long openwork ribbon. The outer cuts of these blanks must be processed on an overlock with a rolled seam. With a regular overlock stitch, you will decorate the inner arcs of the shuttlecocks.
Fold these three stacks separately. Now you need to sew the vertical shuttlecocks to the stripes on the wedges that correspond to them. After that, you need to stitch the green shuttlecocks to the green line.

- fabric 1 m wide 40 cm - 30–80 cm;
- lining cloth 1m wide 40 cm - 50 cm;
- textile paint;
- spiral bones and regilin;
- guipure;

The parts must be sealed by gluing glue doublerin to them on the reverse side. Stitch the bodice details. Cut out elements from guipure to decorate it.
If you have decor items in the wrong color, then paint them first. Let the paint dry. Now you need to sew decorative guipure fragments on the bodice of the dress, decorate them with beads.
Sew the zipper into the center seam on the back and top of the skirt. The straps must be sewn to the front of the dress. You need to sweep the lining to the top of the bodice, and sew the bodice lining on the arms to the zipper and to the waist line.
