There are as many recipes for "Herring under a fur coat" salad as there are hostesses. This always delicious flaky dish is made with salted herring, beets and onions. The rest of the ingredients can vary depending on preference and taste. For example, boiled potatoes and carrots, eggs and apples, green onions and mustard are added to the salad. However, each hostess chooses the ingredients according to her taste. Today I propose to try the salad in a new version - with an apple! It gives the salad notes of freshness and a pleasant, slightly perceptible sourness.
This salad can be served in a common large salad bowl or served in portions using a forming ring. As a dressing, you can use mayonnaise or a sauce made from mayonnaise and sour cream. The last option is less high in calories. However, if a simple salad is modified, then an old-fashioned dish can be turned into a stylish, elegant and mouth-watering meal. Prepare a fur coat in a new way and serve in an unusual original way. Then the familiar and ordinary salad will become something new and festive.

- Mayonnaise - for impregnation
- Salt to taste
- Sugar - 1 tsp
How to make a salad "Herring under a fur coat" with apples:
1. First of all, boil the beets, potatoes and carrots. You can cook vegetables in one saucepan, but remove the potatoes with carrots in advance, after about an hour. And continue to cook the beets for another hour. Season the vegetables with salt 15 minutes before cooking. Check readiness by softness - the knife should easily enter them. Cool them well afterwards. This process may take at least 5 hours (2 hours of cooking and 3 hours of refrigeration). Therefore, you can prepare them in advance, for example, in the evening.
2. Wash the apple, remove the seed box, peel and grate.
3. Boiled carrots, potatoes and beets, peel and grate on a coarse grater.
4. Peel the onions, chop into half rings and marinate in vinegar and sugar. Fill it with warm drinking water and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a sieve so that all the water is glass.
5. Peel the herring from the film, open the stomach and remove all the insides. Cut off the fins, head and tail. Separate the fillets from the ridge and wash them well, removing a black thin film from the inside of the abdomen.
6. Choose a dish for serving salad and put half a serving of grated potatoes, brush it with a layer of mayonnaise.
7. Top with diced herring.
8. Spread the pickled onions on the fish.
9. Grated apple on it and saturate the layers with mayonnaise.
10. Spread the remaining potatoes on top and coat with mayonnaise again.
11. Do the same with carrots.
12. The last layer is beetroot. It is not necessary to grease it with mayonnaise. Put the prepared salad in the refrigerator for soaking for 1 hour. Then you can serve it to the table.
