Learn how to grow pineapple in your home from the top of your windowsill. Step-by-step instructions for gourmet gardeners who want to see something new and exotic in their apartment. For many, growing a pineapple at home from its green top will seem an amazing and interesting undertaking, and whoever saw such a miracle at a friend's on the windowsill will probably want to grow it too. After all, this very beautiful, evergreen exotic plant will delight the eye at every sight. For some, it even blooms and small fruits appear, but this is with proper plant care. The whole procedure will be carried out in stages. By the way, read the article: "Why pineapple is useful."
Stage 1: Pineapple selection
The most important thing for success is to choose a good and ripe planting material, an unripe and overripe fruit will not work for us. When choosing a pineapple in a store or at a bazaar, pay attention to its seed (leaves), they should be dense green, firm, healthy. If in some places the leaves begin to turn yellow or, even worse, turn brown, then such a fruit should also be set aside. Carefully choose the fruit in the winter at the bazaar, there, as a rule, frozen pineapples, and this will not work for us.
The center of the pineapple should be yellow and not very hard. It is also not worth buying damaged fruits. You can take a pineapple and bring it to your nose - smell the fruit, it should have a scent, if there is a smell and the fruit is whole and healthy, then buy it boldly. You can take two pieces at once, only in different places, like me, so that the chance to grow becomes one hundred percent.
Stage 2: preparation of the tip
First you need to take out the very top of the pineapple, for this it is enough to grasp the entire bunch of leaves with your hand and gently and slowly turn it. It's like unscrewing the cap on a bottle that has been tightly twisted. This is how the stem should come out.
If there are difficulties, and they can arise with a slightly unripe fruit, then the whole procedure must be done with a kitchen knife. To do this, cut out the leaves with a root, you need to cut not horizontally, but slightly at an angle of 45 degrees. After that, all the pulp that remains on the stem should be removed, this is done so that our workpiece does not start to rot.
Now the stem at the lower base needs to be cleaned 2-3 centimeters from the leaves.
Stage 3: germination of the roots of the apex
In order for the pineapple “hat” to take root, it must be lowered 3-4 centimeters into water at room temperature, a glass is suitable for this, but it is better to take a cup that is not transparent (from any material). Put our future plant in a sufficiently lit place (not in the sun and not in the dark), where there are no drafts and temperature drops and wait 4-6 days until the roots appear.
Stage 4: planting and growing pineapple
If possible, it is better to take a large pot right away: about 30-35 cm in diameter and 20-30 in height. If there is no such vessel yet, then you can first plant the pineapple in a small pot - 10-15 cm in diameter. But as the plant grows, it should be immediately transplanted into a larger space, otherwise the leaves will dry out, and the flower and fruit will not be seen. It is generally recommended to plant pineapple and transplant it further as it grows.
There must be holes in the pot to drain excess water. Then we spread a drainage layer up to 3 centimeters to the bottom (this is a mandatory rule). We fill the pot with nutritious and loose earth and plant pineapple up to 3 cm deep. Once every 1-2 months for six months during the period of its active growth, you need to feed from the mullein. The pineapple pot should be placed only in a bright place, this is a warm and light-loving plant.
Pineapple should be watered regularly and in moderation, and only rain water can be used in the room. If the plant is heavily flooded, it can lead to decay of the roots. If you do not add enough, then the leaves will begin to dry (cut the dried ends). So watch out, as soon as the earth has dried up a little - feed the "green child" with water. In addition to moderate watering, it is imperative to spray the leaves with warm water and wipe them from dust with a damp cloth.
In general, I will say from personal experience that growing a pineapple at home on a windowsill is absolutely not a difficult undertaking, even simple and exciting. After planting and proper regular care, after 2 or 2, 5 years, the pineapple should bloom and give a delicious fruit. And the calorie content of pineapple is small, it will be useful for losing weight. Good luck!
