Stretch ceilings are practical, durable and not whimsical to maintain. However, the rules for caring for canvases should be known, for example, how to clean PVC linen from grease stains in the kitchen or limestone stains in the bathroom, how to remove dirt on the fabric covering. In order for the stretch fabric to serve for a long time and retain its original appearance, it is important not only to adhere to the rules of operation, but also to properly care for the coating. Cleaning each type of material has its own characteristics that must be taken into account.
Rules for the operation of stretch ceilings
With proper care of the canvas and observance of the peculiarities of operation, you will be able to keep the material in its original form for a long time.
To do this, first of all, you need to protect the coverage from the influence of negative factors:
- Mechanical impact … The fabric material has higher strength characteristics than the film one. However, both types of ceilings are not recommended to be cleaned with hard brushes, rough cloths and abrasives. Also, do not press hard on the canvas to avoid deformation.
- Temperature drops … Under the influence of high temperature, the film coating deforms, and at low rates, it cracks.
- Chemical exposure … The use of acids, alkalis, acetone-containing compounds for cleaning can cause stains on the coating, remove the pattern and even the appearance of holes.
It will be easier for you to protect the canvas from the effects of negative factors if it is initially placed in a room with the necessary requirements. For example, fabric ceilings are more suitable for terraces and unheated rooms, and film ceilings for the kitchen.
Remember that an incorrectly selected composition for cleaning the tension cloth can cause blurring or removal of the pattern, change in color, wrinkle of the canvas, and the appearance of stains. Choose products that are specifically designed for tensile structures. Give preference to liquids from reliable manufacturers and suppliers. Also pay attention to the composition. The product must be free of abrasives and acetone. Test it on an inconspicuous or hidden area before use.
Features of caring for a film stretch ceiling
Unlike fabric, PVC is not afraid of moisture, and therefore various compounds can be used to clean it. However, the film is more afraid of mechanical damage, and you need to be extremely careful not to damage the integrity of the material.
Caring for a glossy stretch ceiling
The glossy PVC cover shines until dust settles on it. In general, the process of caring for glossy stretch ceilings resembles the cleaning of mirror surfaces.
To clean the canvas, we adhere to the following rules:
- We work exclusively with gloves so as not to leave fingerprints on the film. It is recommended that you remove rings and bracelets from your hands to prevent damage.
- To remove dust, use a long-bristled brush or dry paper towel.
- We give gloss to the coating using polish or alcohol solution (1 to 10).
- Once again, wipe with a dry cloth with progressive movements so as not to leave streaks.
All solutions for washing PVC cloth should not have a temperature higher than 40 degrees.
Matte stretch ceiling care
It is recommended to clean film ceilings with a matte texture under the influence of water vapor. For this, there are special steam cleaners. Also in these cases, use a water solution from shavings of laundry soap, glass or dishwashing detergent.
But in the kitchen, care for stretch matte ceilings is carried out with the help of ammonia and a dry napkin. The microfiber napkin is ideal for these purposes. During cleaning, deformation of individual sections of the material must not be allowed, otherwise the entire structure will bend.
Caring for a satin stretch ceiling
If everything is more or less clear about the care of a glossy and matte surface, then the question arises of how to wash satin stretch ceilings. On the glossy canvas, stains are visible, and the matte canvas can simply be left wet. After drying, it will look aesthetically pleasing. The satin finish looks like a matte finish, but differs in some shine, so it may also have stains on it.
Cleaning is carried out in this order: we apply the care product to a separate area, wipe the canvas with progressive movements with a soft cloth, slightly moistening the napkin, continue to wipe until the stains disappear.
The cloth can leave microscopic scratches. Don't worry about it. They will be invisible after the ceiling has dried.

Technology for the care of fabric stretch fabrics
Fabric ceilings are more durable than film ceilings and are not so afraid of mechanical damage. However, in caring for them, the following rules must be observed:
- Cleaning of the fabric is carried out without detergents.
- A brush with soft and long bristles is used to remove dust.
- When cleaning with a vacuum cleaner, do not allow the brush to touch the coating. The device itself must be turned on at minimum power.
Unlike film stretch ceiling products, it is not recommended to wash fabrics. But this can be done in the presence of heavy contamination. Maintenance of fabric stretch ceilings is usually carried out without the use of various chemicals, therefore we use laundry soap.
Dissolve some shavings of soap in warm water. The solution should be low in concentration. We wet a small hidden area to test the reaction of the web. Poor quality material may discolor or deform. If the reaction is normal, apply the solution to the dirt and lightly three. Please note that you do not need to rub hard to avoid damaging the fabric.
Cleaning the stretch ceiling in the kitchen and bathroom
PVC tension structures are usually installed in these rooms. In the bathroom, due to the constantly high humidity, limescale forms on the canvas. To get rid of it, the material must be washed in a timely manner with soapy water or a special care product for stretch ceilings.
In the kitchen, most often the canvas is covered with greasy spots. We remove them using alcohol-based formulations, and stubborn places can be pre-lubricated with detergent and left to soften for a while.
