Foam glass installation technologies
Taking into account the rules for fixing foam glass, you can easily and effectively insulate any structure at home. The properties of this material make it possible to abandon the use of traditional moisture and windproof membranes.
Consider the most common technologies for installing foam glass as insulation for various building elements:
- Wall insulation for heavy cladding … In this case, foam glass plates must be glued to the concrete or brick surface according to the above rules. After that, you need to perform additional fixation of the material with dowels, 4-5 pieces per one plate. Then you should install a metal profile under the stone cladding and carry out its installation.
- Wall insulation for plastering … Here, foam glass slabs must be glued onto a brickwork or a wall surface made of aerated concrete blocks. From above, they should be covered with a reinforcing mesh with an overlap of 10 cm and fixed with dowels-umbrellas. After that, plaster mortar can be applied to the wall with a layer of up to 30 mm.
- Thermal insulation of a wall with brick cladding … In this case, the base brick surface should be pasted over with foam glass plates. At the same time, flexible connections are easier to install after installing the insulation. After that, you need to carry out the outer masonry with facing bricks. Instead of slabs, granular foam glass can be used, filling it between the base wall and the cladding as it is installed. The distance between two layers must be at least 250 mm.
- Insulation of the wall under the metal profiled sheet … To do this, the base surface should be pasted over with foam glass, and on top of it, a crate made of a profile or wooden slats should be made. Fasteners must be selected taking into account the type of wall material. Profiled sheets are attached to the crate along the insulation from the bottom up and with an overlap.
- Insulation of partitions … It is practically no different from external wall insulation with foam glass. In this case, the insulation is also covered with a plaster layer. Aluminum profiles must be installed under the drywall sheets.
- Roof insulation for waterproofing roll material … In this case, the concrete floor slab should be treated with a bitumen-polymer liquid composition, then glue or hot bitumen mastic should be applied to the foam glass blocks of the insulation, and then fixed with slight pressure on the base surface. After that, the finished coating must be treated with heated bitumen and, with the help of a torch, it is necessary to melt waterproofing and roll roofing material on it.
- Insulation of the roof of the house for sheet covering … In this case, foam glass blocks should be mounted by glue method on a concrete floor. Then the insulation must be treated with a bitumen-polymer composition, a roll insulating material must be melted on it and a crate must be made on it for mounting one or another sheet covering on it.
- Thermal insulation of a wooden roof … Before its implementation, the rafters must be covered with a continuous flooring of boards, and a layer of waterproofing on a bitumen basis should be laid on top of it. After that, thermal insulation should be made of foam glass and covered with a waterproof film. After that, you can install any roofing material.
- Floor insulation … On top of the base, you need to tightly lay the foam glass plates, then cover them with two layers of plastic wrap and fill the entire structure with cement-sand mortar. After it has set, the floor will be ready for finishing with parquet, linoleum and other materials.
