Types of ceilings in the washing bath
Depending on the building material, the ceiling can be wood or reinforced concrete. In the first case, there are three technologies for equipping ceilings in the washing section of the bath:
- Hemmed … They are easy to install, but are considered the most durable. Arrangement of such ceilings allows you to use the attic space.
- Wall-mounted … They differ in the relatively low cost of materials and ease of installation. However, they are fragile, and therefore it will be impossible to move around the attic.
- Panel … Installation and assembly does not involve significant financial costs, since edged boards can be used for individual parts. Of the design flaws, a large weight and laboriousness of work is distinguished.
Further cladding of wooden ceilings in the washing room is recommended to be made from deciduous or coniferous lining.
The concrete ceiling of the brick bath in the washroom can be finished with PVC panels. They are moisture resistant and durable. At the same time, it is better to fix them on a galvanized metal profile. A more budgetary option involves plastering and whitewashing.
Ceiling technology in a washing bath
Before installation work, it is necessary to carefully treat all wood with antiseptic compounds. This will increase the durability and resistance of the structure to the influence of an aggressive environment.
We carry out the work in the following order:
- We sheathe the bottom of the floor beams with a tongue-and-groove board.
- On top, we fix a double hydro and vapor barrier layer with an overlap of 15 cm. It is advisable to use foil material.
- We put insulation in the grooves between the beams. Foil coated material can be used.
- On top of the insulation, we re-lay two layers of vapor and waterproofing, respectively.
- We mount running boards in the attic.
Please note that the total thickness of the insulation "cake" must be less than the height of the floor joists. If it is supposed to equip a pantry in the attic, then the floor can be equipped even from unedged boards. The lumber for the washing room cladding must be selected without cracks and knots. All fasteners must be galvanized.
Installation of a flat ceiling in the washing compartment of a bath
To equip the ceiling in the form of a decking structure, floor beams can be omitted. However, it is important to choose shield boards of special strength. Such a ceiling is suitable for rooms with a maximum span of 2.5 meters.
The work is carried out in the following order:
- We lay on the upper edges of the walls a wooden board, knocked down from a grooved board.
- We attach a vapor barrier membrane in two layers using a construction stapler. You can use foil or technical polyethylene. The overlap must be at least 15 cm. Glue the joints with metallized tape.
- We fix two sheets of waterproofing (roofing felt or glassine) with the same overlap.
- We nail a bar with a section of 5 * 10 cm across the laid boards in increments of 0.5-0.7 meters.
- We lay a layer of insulation. To do this, you can use bulk materials: expanded clay, peat, sawdust, sand, earth or mineral insulation.
- We lay a second double layer of waterproofing material.
- We press the insulating pad with a rail 2.5-3.5 cm thick.
- We install a fire-resistant plate on top of a mixture of sawdust, cement, clay and water in a ratio of 1: 0, 3: 4: 2.
This type of ceiling does not imply the use of an attic space, so you can not cover the area with boards on top. Floor structures are perfect for washing in saunas with a pitched roof.
Arrangement of a panel ceiling for a washing room in a bath
Panel panels for arranging this type of ceiling can be used production, or you can mount it yourself. The essence of the construction process is to assemble the structure on the ground and then lift them to the bathhouse. Do not forget to impregnate the wood with fire retardants before starting work.
The ceiling is equipped according to the following plan:
- We install two bars on a flat surface at a distance of 0.5 meters.
- We fasten them together with rounded boards with a length of 0.6 meters, leaving an exit on the sides by 5 cm. For reliable fixation, we use galvanized nails, 10 cm long. The thickness of the boards should be about 5 cm.
- We fix the vapor barrier foil film inside the panel with a construction stapler at the edges and at the folds.
- We stuff two temporary slats (jibs) diagonally between the beams. This will allow the panel to be transported to the top of the washroom without deformation.
- We mount the structure on the upper edges of the load-bearing walls. It should take at least 5 cm of wall thickness. Strictly according to the level, we install all panels until the ceiling is completely closed.
- We seal the formed joints with jute.
- We lay the insulation on top of the vapor barrier material in the panels themselves and the joints between them.
- We fix the waterproofing layer on top.
- We fasten all the panels together with a board, 4 cm thick. Its length should be equal to the sum of the width of all panels.
- We sew up the rest of the space with boards 0.6 meters long.
- At the transverse joints, we mount an overhead board.
Due to the large weight of individual structures, it will not be possible to complete the installation yourself, so get an assistant in advance. Having equipped a panel ceiling above the sink, you can use the attic space.
Features of finishing the ceiling in the washing section of the bath
Due to the high humidity, the ceiling in the washing compartment, like the walls and the floor, requires special vapor and waterproofing. In addition, the facing materials must have good moisture-resistant characteristics. Coniferous wood lining is very popular in finishing the ceiling of the sink. Spruce and pine are considered to be very beneficial to health. In addition, the washing room does not maintain such a high temperature as in the steam room, and therefore the resins will not have a negative effect.
We carry out the lining of the ceiling in the sink as follows:
- On the boards we fill the crate with slats 2-3 cm thick in increments of 0.5-0.6 meters.
- We attach a wooden lining with galvanized fasteners.
- We pass the seams with a waterproof sealant.
It is not recommended to use plastic lining or drywall sheets for decoration, since they do not withstand the influence of an aggressive environment. All fasteners must have a wide head and be resistant to corrosion, therefore galvanized nails or self-tapping screws are most often used.
