The solar system stretch ceiling is used quite often in the design of modern apartments. To create it, various lighting devices, projectors, paints are used. The "sky" can be night, then stretch canvases of dark colors and lighting devices that imitate stars are used. Also, the "sky" on the ceiling can be light. Then lighting devices are combined with photo printing of planets, comets, meteorites. They bring the appearance of the surface as close as possible to the conceived option. A solar system ceiling is a great option for bedrooms and children's rooms.
Methods for mounting the "Solar System" on a stretch ceiling
The Solar System stretch ceilings are distinguished by their originality and originality. They have all the same advantages as conventional stretch fabrics, but at the same time they are illuminated internally or externally. As a rule, photo printing on canvases is used when it comes to decorating bedrooms. Vinyl decals can be used if the ceiling is in a children's room.
A stretch ceiling with the image of the solar system is created in several ways:
- With the use of LEDs and a block;
- Using fiber optic systems and a projector;
- Painting the canvas with luminescent paints (phosphors).
In addition, you can use combinations of these methods. So, stretch fabrics with optical filaments and photo printing look great. If you have drawing skills, it is quite possible to decorate the ceiling with a painting of the starry sky, depict planets and comets.
It is worth noting that all lighting fixtures that will simulate stars and the Sun on the ceiling are auxiliary. They are not suitable as the main light source. To do this, you need to think over a competent lighting system using spot ceiling lamps or wall lamps.
Using Fiber to Create a Solar System Ceiling
When installing a stretch ceiling in the form of a solar system, the light source is a projector that is fixed to the base ceiling. Light-guiding optical fibers are connected to the device. In this case, a special nozzle is used. The fiber diameter is 0.75 mm. It has a high brightness, due to which you can achieve a high-quality glow. The optical fiber barely gets warm. There are two ways to place the fiber optic in the stretched fabric to create luminous planets on the ceiling: with and without a puncture of the fabric.

This option provides for fixing the lighting device in a hole in the ceiling covering. This leaves 1-2 mm of fiber outside. In this case, a dense tensioning material is used that will hide the protruding parts of the optical fiber in daylight.
If you want to depict planets, stars, comets on the ceiling, then you should order a photo print on canvas with the corresponding image in advance.
We carry out work in the following sequence:
- We mark the base ceiling using a laser level. The stretch fabric should be fixed lower than the base ceiling-mounted projector.
- According to the markings, we fasten the profile for the tensioning fabric.
- We fix the projector on the existing ceiling. We attach optical fibers to it by means of a nozzle.
- Before making the Solar System ceiling, you need to decide on the image that you want to get on the finished canvas. If you are using photo printing, then the fiber optic "stars" should not touch the "planets", "comets" and other images depicted.
- We attach optical fibers to the ceiling using clamps, based on the pattern on the canvas. We lower them to the level of the future ceiling. The mounted beam of light guides on the ceiling looks like an open fan.
- Using a heat gun, we heat the canvas and fix it in the profile.
- We pierce holes in the right places for the output of optical fibers.
- We bring the fiber to the outside.
- When the ceiling is ready, we cut the optical fibers. 1-2 mm should remain.
- Install a decorative plinth between the ceiling and the wall.
In addition, you can attach Swarovski crystals to the ends of the fibers. This method is quite expensive, but the effect will be amazing. Crystals will scatter light and create the effect of real stars shining. During the day, the stones will be visible on the ceiling and will also play beautifully in the rays of the sun.
It should be noted that the projector, which will be placed on the ceiling, has a low weight - only about 500-700 grams, does not create noise. It does not heat up and does not make noise, consumes little electricity. Its service life is on average 6-8 years.
Creation of a "Solar System" ceiling using fiber optic without puncture
Installing the ceiling in the form of a solar system in this way significantly improves the appearance of the canvas in daylight. In this case, the main canvas can be glossy, matte, satin. The method of applying the image by means of photo printing is also used. It is used most often when it is necessary to create an exact repetition of the constellations, the arrangement of the planets.
We carry out the installation of the ceiling according to the following instructions:
- We mark the level of the stretch ceiling in the same way as in the ceiling with a puncture. We lower it below the installation level of the projector by about 5 cm.
- Fix the projector to the base ceiling in the desired location.
- We carry out installation of optical fibers on the ceiling.
- We are preparing a stretched false canvas - we apply a diagram of the arrangement of stars and planets on our own using a stencil.
- We heat the room and the false cloth with a heat gun and partially stretch it over the profiles.
- According to the scheme, we make punctures in the false cloth and bring the fibers out.
- We fill the false canvas completely into the baguettes and let it cool down.
- We fix the optical fibers in the holes with a special adhesive.
- After the glue has dried, we trim the fibers to the level of the future finishing stretch fabric.
- We mark the level of the final stretch ceiling and fix the profiles.
- We again warm up the room with a heat gun and fill the harpoon of the canvas into the profile using a spatula, first in the corners, then along the walls.
- After complete cooling, the web is stretched completely. Then we install a plug around the perimeter of the ceiling.
The color of the stretch ceiling can be different. It can be either a solid dark one, matching the color of the night sky, or light blue with the print of the desired image.
Using LEDs to Create a Solar System Ceiling
Typically, LEDs are used in conjunction with optical fiber to create a Solar System ceiling. LED lamps are bright, and they are ideal for creating bright constellations or, for example, illuminating a large planet, the Sun along a contour.
We install LEDs in a stretch fabric according to the following instructions:
- We make a ceiling marking - we draw a diagram of the solar system in order to correctly place the LEDs.
- We fix an LED projector on the base ceiling, as well as a controller that will create a blinking effect.
- We glue LEDs to the base ceiling on construction silicone.
- We put a cambric on each end - a tube for insulation.
- We install the profile for the stretching fabric at a distance of 15-20 cm from the LED lamps.
- We fix the canvas with a heat gun and a spatula.
It is best in such cases to use a loose canvas, through which the soft glow of the "stars" will shine through. On the canvas, you can apply a drawing of the solar system. If you use RGB LED strips, you can achieve interesting effects by illuminating the planets with different colors - from red Mars to blue Earth.
Creation of the Solar System ceiling with phosphor paints
You can paint the ceiling stretch canvas with luminescent paints or phosphors. This is the simplest and most primitive way to create stars and planets on the ceiling. The paints used in this case can be colored or translucent. It is desirable that they have a matte texture.
We apply the desired space landscape to the canvas after it has been stretched over the ceiling. We do this using a stepladder and a thin brush. If your artistic ability is less than ideal, a stencil can be used. Use it to apply stars, constellations and comets to the ceiling.
The paint will accumulate light and release it after the light source is turned off. It should be noted that the more expensive the dye, the longer it will give off light. So, low-quality paint will glow in the dark for only 2-4 hours. And products from a certified manufacturer can give off light all night - 12-14 hours.
