What is Sangria?
So sangria is a popular Spanish cocktail with moderate alcohol content for parties. It appeared about 400 years ago, and was made from red, rarely white wine with fruit. Sometimes spirits, sugar and various spices were added. In the warm summer season, it is consumed in a cool form, and in the winter season - in a slightly warmed one. The ingredients for making sangria can be varied, since the taste of the drink does not suffer at all.
Varieties of sangria
- Quiet sangria (common). This is a classic sangria with citrus fruits and grapes added.
- Fruit sangria - generously flavored with various fruits: melon, pineapple, apples, bananas, oranges, strawberries, limes, etc.
- White sangria is the same as still sangria, but made with white wine.
- Sparkling sangria. This drink differs from other sangrias in that it contains soda or champagne.
Main ingredients of sangria
Despite the fact that there is a basic set of products for making sangria, you can use absolutely any product of your choice.
- Wine. It is preferable to use dry red or white wine. Besides, it will be enough to use an inexpensive good drink. Because the taste of finished sangria is drowned out by vintage wine.
- Strong alcohol. It is best to use brandy and liqueur, which can be substituted with cognac, vodka, whiskey, rum or gin.
- Fruits can be very different for your taste.
- Spices are used to taste: ginger, cinnamon, mint, nutmeg, etc.
- Sugar, optional. In addition, you can use: honey, sugar syrup or grenadine.
- Soda, preferably highly carbonated: soda, tonic, mineral water. For the preparation of sparkling sangria, you can use champagne or any sparkling wine.
- Ice, as, in principle, in most cocktails, is placed just before serving the drink on the table.
