You still don't know how to make a sun lounger out of pallets, boards, fabric, PVC pipes and even birch logs? Then right now watch a master class with step-by-step photos that will teach you this.
The summer season is coming. What could be more wonderful than relaxing in a comfortable position in the fresh air? After learning how to make a chaise lounge, you will make it from scrap materials.
How to make a sun lounger out of wood with your own hands?
This sun lounger is made from natural materials. You can raise the headboard the way you want it. One problem is that the chaise longue turns out to be quite heavy, so it is difficult to move it around the garden. But you can solve this problem by attaching roller casters to the back of the legs.
Here's what you need to make a sun lounger:
- spruce glued wood boards, the thickness of which is 18 mm;
- boards 25 mm thick;
- wooden bars with a cross section of 45 mm;
- four metal corners;
- four roller wheels;
- screws;
- wood varnish for outdoor use;
- sanding sheet - 2 pieces;
- screwdriver;
- jigsaw;
- drill.
It is better to use slabs of coniferous species, as they will better withstand being outdoors and will be able to withstand precipitation.
Decide on the size of the future structure. Usually it is 190 by 60 cm. If you are satisfied with this size, then saw off 4 paired blanks from the bars. 2 of them will be 190 cm long, and the other two 60 cm. Using metal corners, assemble this frame.
Rest in the country will be wonderful and comfortable with such a device. To make it easy to move, fix the roller guides on the bars.
Now you can make a wooden lattice that will become the headboard. Cut boards from plates with a jigsaw, their size is 8 by 60 cm.
Attach the boards to the frame, keeping equal gaps between them. This will be helped by spacers of the same size. Place them between the boards, and then fix the boards. By the same principle, you will make the sunbed yourself, but fill it with boards that are attached to the base.
To be able to adjust the height of the head, attach the special fasteners here that are designed for this.
Now you can grind your product first with coarse, then fine sandpaper, after which it remains to shake off the dust and paint the wooden parts with varnish in several layers.
And here is another master class and step-by-step photos to it, which will help you make a sun lounger quickly and easily. First you need to knock down the frame measuring 50 by 215 cm. After that, you will attach the same beams to it, but at an angle of 90 degrees. Then it remains to fill the boards on top of the seat up to the headboard.
After that, you will need to make a separate frame for the headboard, stuff the boards on it.
Drill holes to make this part rise. They are located 9 cm from the edge of the seat on 2 sides. Now make two grooves at the base of the chaise lounge, the support bars will be placed here. Then you can raise and fix the backrest in the desired position.
Place a timber that is 60 cm long in the first groove. And to make the backrest higher, you simply shift the timber to another groove.
If you like such natural materials, then we suggest you be even closer to nature. Then you can make a chaise longue from wooden logs.
How to make a log lounger?
First, prepare everything you need. It:
- wooden logs, in this case, birch;
- staples;
- drill;
- self-tapping screws;
- electric saw;
- set of drills.
To prevent the finished product from being too heavy, do not take large diameter logs. It will be enough to take these blanks with a diameter of 12 cm.
First, file them into 45 cm long logs. To know how to position them, attach the tape to your work surface, making the desired bend.
Now, using a drill and an appropriate drill, make a through hole in each log, after which you can connect the workpieces. Each log is fastened with 4 self-tapping screws of sufficient length. Use a socket wrench to tighten them.
Then turn the sun lounger over. For the most stable structure, attach the brackets from the back side.
If you want to make a chaise longue so that it has a soft seat, then take:
- slats of rectangular section 60 by 25 mm;
- durable canvas measuring 50 by 200 cm;
- circular slats with a diameter of 2 cm;
- furniture bolts and nuts;
- PVA glue;
- fine sandpaper.
First, cut the slats to the desired length. The following sun lounger scheme will help you do this. You can see how long and wide they should be, and how they should be secured.
As a result, it will be necessary to knock down and attach two frames to each other using furniture bolts. One of them is large, the other is smaller. You will place them crosswise at an angle of 90 degrees. At the back at the level of the backrest, this structure is held by two more slats, they will need to be fixed on a large frame and below on a small one. At the top of the large and at the top of the small frame, you need to attach one more bar, on which you will fix the fabric. You can sew it on your hands or secure it with a furniture stapler.
To change position, 6 grooves need to be cut out at the bottom of the lower frame, 3 on each side. This way you can unfold the chaise longue or fix it like this to sit on it.
To strengthen this structure and make a comfortable table in the back, on which you can put various necessary items, you can make a chaise longue of the following type.
It is also created from wooden slats and then upholstered with fabric. Consider a dimensional diagram that will allow you to do a similar thing.
If you have PVC pipes, they will serve as an excellent base. And the chaise longue itself is also made of fabric.
To make one, take:
- 2-inch PVC pipes;
- 6 T-shaped connectors;
- 8 L-shaped connectors;
- durable canvas type fabric.
Using the T-shaped connector, fix together two vertical pipes, the length of which is 45 and 35 cm. Place the L-shaped connectors on the corners of this rectangle.
Here are two pieces of pipe with tips at the corners. Connect these two blanks with crossbars from the same material, this is how the structure will look at this stage.
You need to make a connection, and then you attach the seat here. Cut the pipe so that its length is 5 cm. Insert this blank on one side into one T-piece, on the other into the other.
In the same way, you need to connect a part of a given size on the other side. Now fix the second rectangle. Here's what happens for now.
To make the chaise longue further, look at which slope you need to create to make you feel comfortable. Place a spacer of the required length at the back using the connectors to fix the backrest in the selected position.
Chaise lounge from pallets - master class and photo
These pallets can also be used to make an excellent sun lounger. If you want, attach wheels on one side to it to lift it on the other and take it to any place.
To make this type of chaise longue, you first need to connect two pallets. To do this, first make a base of boards, then attach the wheels here on one side, and fix two pallets on top with screws and corners. You will also need a third pallet. It needs to be slightly modified in order to fill the boards tightly to each other.
Nail this blank perpendicular to the first two. You will get a chaise longue and a mobile bed on wheels at the same time. If you want the backrest to recline, you need to knock down 2 pallets, and from the third, remove some of the boards on one side and cancel the bar on the same side.
You have formed half a pallet with two long legs, with the help of them you will fix this part on the base. Secure it with a furniture stapler.
To keep the back well in this position, attach two planks at the back, which will rest on the ground on the back side.
Color your creation if you wish. You can sew a mattress on it, put it on this chaise longue so that it is soft to lie on it. And from the round part of a wooden coil, you will make a table for such a resting place.
There is another version of the chaise lounge, this is the Kentucky chair. It is mobile, can be folded out at your request, so that you can have a great rest on it.
How to make a DIY Kentucky chair?
To do this, take:
- bars with a section of 55 by 30 mm;
- galvanized wire with a diameter of 4 mm;
- staples - 16 pcs.
First coat the bars with a protective wax or oil stain. Then the finished products in the open air will be more durable.
Now you need to drill two holes in each bar. The size of these holes should be slightly larger than the thickness of the wire.
Look at the diagram, it shows at what distance the holes should be. You will also familiarize yourself with the size of the bars that you need to saw beforehand.
Now see how you need to fold the workpieces, and where to pass the wire. The following diagram will show you how to arrange the seats and divider with the seat.
Lock the bars together, then connect the resulting pieces, you get the original Kentucky chair, which is the perfect chaise longue for relaxing.
If you wish, implement another idea. It is very original.
How to make an unusual chair for a summer residence?
It is both an armchair, a chaise longue and a comfortable bed with a canopy that protects from the sun.
To make such a product, take:
- plywood 2 cm thick, 180 x 160 cm - two sheets;
- 12 plywood planks 10 x 94 cm;
- 6 bars of circular cross-section 92 length, 3 cm in diameter;
- reliable fabric for sitting and awning;
- screws;
- cardboard;
- construction glue;
- roulette;
- circular saw;
- electric drill.
First, print out the diagram below. All sizes of the future chaise longue base are available here. You can see what radius the semicircular elongation should be, how long the rest of the parts should be.
To transfer them to this drawing on the main pattern, you can immediately print this sample on a piece of paper in a box or draw them. Then, using the cells, you will bring the drawing onto the cardboard, making the same vertical and horizontal stripes on it.
You will have two large paired pieces that sit on the side of this chair. Place the pattern on a sheet of plywood, circle and cut with a circular saw. Likewise, you will receive a second paired part.
These two blanks must be fastened with pre-cut strips. To do this, you need to drill a hole, put these bars into the recess, fix them with glue and additionally with screws. Now you need to let the product dry, then sand it.
You can use putty in the next step to hide any bumps and screw heads. When the putty is dry, attach the pre-sewn fabric canopy to the chaise longue. It is best to attach it with Velcro so that it can be removed and washed later.
Sew a mattress out of foam rubber rectangles. They must be wide enough to make this lounger soft. Now sew the cover along its length, insert the foam rubber rectangles here and sew their joints on the hands. You can sew individual small pads and hold them together.
Here's how to make a chaise longue from fabric, pallets, planks, and even logs. Watch a master class that clearly shows how to make such a lounge chair out of canvas.
Try making a beach chair, which will be softer with the cushions. You will need 10 small pieces.
