Pea soups, just like other soups with meatballs, have been famous for a very long time and are preferred by many. Who first came up with the idea to combine peas and meatballs in one dish is not known for certain. However, the result of the meal turned out to be excellent. The dish has an amazing taste, velvety texture and excellent aroma. In addition, it is also useful due to the content of soluble fiber in peas, and in large quantities. And from adding tender meatballs to the soup, the dish also benefits, becoming more tasty and nutritious.
Meatballs in this case can be represented from any type of meat: lamb, beef, pork, chicken … And for their satiety, you can put a piece of bacon in the minced meat. It, firstly, will give the dish satiety, and secondly, the meatballs airiness. Well, in order to get a less high-calorie dish, meatballs are prepared from a lean piece of meat, for example, chicken breasts. Then the soup is much easier for our body to digest than its fatty counterparts.

For 3 liters of water you need 0.5 cups of peas. But this proportion applies to a soup of liquid consistency. If the desired result is to be thicker, then you will need 1-1.5 cups of legumes.
To make the soup not only tasty, but also healthy, the peas should be soaked for several hours, but it is best to do this overnight. The longer it is soaked, the more valuable nutrients will be retained during cooking.

Cooking pea soup with meatballs
1. Place the peas in a sieve and rinse under running water. Then put in a deep container, fill with drinking (!) Water and leave for at least 2 hours. During this time, it will almost double in volume. Be sure to fill it with drinking water, as it will absorb liquid in itself.
2. Then rinse the peas again and place in a saucepan. Fill it with water, add bay leaf and peppercorns.
3. Send it to the stove to cook.
4. While the peas are cooking, cook the meatballs. To do this, twist the meat and onions through a meat grinder. Season the minced meat with salt, black pepper and mix well. Since no egg is added to the minced meat at all, because it will make the broth cloudy, then the meat must be beaten well so that it releases the gluten, which will hold the meatballs together. The minced meat is knocked out as follows. Grab it with your hands and forcefully throw it back into a plate or onto a flat surface. It is best to do this in a plastic bag so that the meat does not spatter all over the kitchen. Beat the minced meat for about 5 minutes. Then you can start forming meatballs no larger than a walnut.
In this recipe I use frozen meatballs, which I recommend you prepare. Since, having them always at hand, you can significantly reduce the time for cooking.
5. After boiling the peas for 30 minutes, place the meatballs in a saucepan and season the soup with salt and black pepper.
6. Cook the soup for about 10 minutes. During this time, the meatballs will cook and give the soup a meaty aroma and taste, and the peas will reach the desired consistency.
7. 2 minutes before the end of cooking, put finely chopped dill in a saucepan. Boil all the products together and you can pour the aromatic soup into plates. If desired, each eater can add a spoonful of sour cream, grated cheese, offer croutons or crackers.
