Baths are equipped with two types of floors - concrete and wood. Concrete floors, in turn, are subdivided into subgrade floors and subfloors. Wood floors are of two types - leaking and non-leaking.

Leaking wooden floors are cold floors and are not insulated. They are used for the southern regions and only in bath washing rooms and steam rooms. Other types of floors are actively used in all rooms of the bath, including in rest rooms.

The structures of the above types of floor include: base, insulated insulation and "clean" wood or concrete floor. However, often, especially in winter, the usual insulation of the floor in the bath room is not enough. In such cases, they resort to installing various floor heating systems on their own or using the services of specialists.

Existing underfloor heating systems are divided into the following types:

  • Hot water floor, which works on the principle of radiator heating;
  • Warm electric floor, which has varieties according to the principle of heating (convection, infrared) and according to the design of heating elements (cable, rod or film).

For the arrangement of the water floor in the recreation room, polyethylene, steel or metal-plastic pipes are used as heating elements. The structure has a special wiring, along which they are laid between the base of the floor and its topcoat. Water, antifreeze, ethylene glycol and other special solutions can be used as heat carriers.

To reduce heat losses, heating elements are placed on a heat insulator layer, and to increase heat transfer - on aluminum foil. Laying pipes in the floor structure is done in two ways - in the form of a spiral or "snake". The first method distributes heat more evenly throughout the entire underfloor heating system than the second, which has a simpler device. Heating elements of the floor do not fit under the furniture of the room, this will help to save money. Matte ceramic tiles, mats, slatted panels and paints and varnishes are used as a coating for the water floor. The water floor heating system has undeniable advantages:

  1. Heat energy is distributed smoothly over the entire area of the room.
  2. Compared to the electric type of floor, there is a significant energy savings.
  3. Internal placement of the heating system of the room.
  4. Low costs for heating large areas.

The disadvantages of a water floor include the difficulty of detecting a source with leaks of system elements, the need to use a water pump, and the difficulty of adjusting the temperature regime of heat carriers.

An electric convection floor is a set of heating cables laid in a specific order on a base made of a special mesh. The advantages of such a heating design are the ability to install it under any finishing coating and automatically adjust the temperature regime. Such a system requires a power supply.

The energy range of infrared rays is similar to solar heat. But there are no ultraviolet waves in it, which eliminates their negative impact on visitors to the rest room. The basis of the warm film floor is made up of a material consisting of a thin layer of flexible carbon strips securely soldered into a polymer film.

For the installation of such a system, a heat-reflecting material - IZOLON or IZOVER is laid on the prepared base of the floor. Film elements are placed on it, which are then covered with a waterproofing polyethylene film. A topcoat is arranged on top of the system.

The advantages of an infrared electric floor over other types are as follows:

  1. It can be installed with heavy flooring such as tiles or porcelain stoneware.
  2. Correct installation excludes any damage.
  3. Lack of harmful electromagnetic radiation.
  4. Parallel connection of heating elements, so the functionality of the system will not change if any of its segments breaks.

Such a floor also has one drawback - its low moisture resistance, therefore, this system is not suitable for the washing compartment of a bath.

The core system of the floor consists of elements called mats. The latter contain heating rod elements connected to their supply wires. All connections have a parallel connection, which eliminates the violation of the functionality of the system. This system is installed in a layer of tile adhesive or in the thickness of a concrete screed.

The advantages of laying an infrared rod system for underfloor heating are that it does not emit electromagnetic waves and does not lose its properties from overheating. The disadvantages of the system include dependence on electrical power supply and high cost.

It is necessary to prepare for the installation of the underfloor heating of the cable system. You will need the following materials:

  • Insulation materials - glass wool, foamed polyethylene or cork boards;
  • Special measuring equipment equipped with one- or two-core wires;
  • Metal mesh to create cable guides;
  • Protective fireproof foil.

The installation of the system begins with placing a layer of thermal insulation on a prepared, even and clean floor surface. A metal mesh is laid on top, which isolates the cable from the insulation. Then the guides are installed, along which the proven serviceable cable is pulled. Any twists and kinks during installation are excluded.

After placing the cable, the thermostat is connected to it. It controls the level of floor heating. The temperature sensor is placed in a corrugated tube and is located 10 cm above the surface of the future screed. This is done to make it easy to replace the sensor in the event of a malfunction.

Then the finished system is poured with a concrete screed. The question of how to cover the floor in the bath's recreation room is not acute here, since any finishing coating is suitable - ceramic tiles, linoleum or laminate.

The resistance value of the cable must correspond to its value specified in the instructions attached to the system.

Unlike the concrete floor of the steam room or washing department, its analogue, equipped in the recreation room, does not require a water drain device due to its functionality. Such a floor can be performed on the ground or on a rough flooring arranged on wooden logs.

The level of the floor on the ground is made up of the marks of the top point of the sand cushion, the thickness of the insulation and the concrete preparation for the finishing coat. Such a floor does not rise above the base of the sauna building. For the installation of a concrete floor on the ground, the bath must have a strip or columnar foundation with the lower mark of the grillage, which coincides with the ground level.

Installation steps:

  1. The work begins with the removal of the vegetation layer of the soil in the place of the future floor. Then this area needs to be covered with gravel and compacted. By installing a sand cushion 30-40 cm thick, the preparation of the base will be completed. The sand needs to be leveled and tamped.
  2. Roll waterproofing is spread on the finished base. It can be roofing material or other moisture resistant material. To create a continuous coating, the overlapping joints of the material panels are coated with a bitumen composition. Thirty centimeters of the edges of the insulation are led onto the wall.
  3. Insulation is laid on top of the waterproofing. As a material, you can choose foam or mineral wool, which needs additional protection with a building film from the moisture of liquid concrete.
  4. A metal reinforcing mesh with a diameter of 5 mm rods is placed on the insulation. A concrete screed with a thickness of 30-40 mm, made on a grid, completes the main process of installing a floor on the ground. For the binder, fine crushed stone and a cement-sand mixture in a ratio of 1: 3 are used.

The floor on the rough flooring provides for a ventilated underfloor space for drying its logs and boards, which will prevent them from rotting.

From below, cranial bars with a section of 150x50 mm are nailed to them, on which boards of rough flooring with a thickness of 20-30 mm are fixed. A waterproofing material is placed on top of the subfloor, the joints of which are reliably sealed. For this, a building film is suitable, for example, Yutafol - it is much more plastic than traditional roofing material.

Insulation is laid on top of the insulation - mineral wool or foam, which is covered from above with another layer of moisture-proof material. On it is a reinforcing metal mesh, which is then poured with a cement-sand mortar with a layer thickness of 30-50 mm. All wooden floor elements are treated with an antiseptic solution to prevent rotting.

The best solution for finishing a concrete floor is ceramic tiles. It is laid on mortar or special tile adhesive, which is diluted with water. Seams between tiles are sealed with moisture resistant compounds.

Concrete floors can be painted and covered with slats or warm synthetic and natural materials. If the bath is supposed to be used in winter, it is better to make the concrete floor in the rest room heated. The construction of such floors was described above.

Before painting the floor in the relaxation room in the bath, its concrete surface is dedusted and impregnated with primers. The choice of materials for painting should be done carefully and those that are intended only for baths should be used. They usually consist of natural, environmentally friendly ingredients.

For the construction of a wooden floor in the rest room of the bath, it is necessary to dig a shallow half-meter pit around the perimeter. At its bottom, cushions of sand and crushed stone with a total thickness of 10-15 cm are laid in layers. The base is carefully compacted and poured with concrete.

After its polymerization, brick support posts of 250x250 mm are built along the bottom of the pit, according to the design marking. Their height should be 20-30 mm more than the depth of the pit. On the top of the posts, roll waterproofing and floor joists are laid, made of 50x100 mm timber, treated with an antiseptic.

Then a rough flooring is performed. For this, cranial bars with a section of 50x50 mm are stuffed along the lower edges of the lag, on which flooring boards are then laid. In their capacity, you can use a slab, second-rate lumber and unedged boards.

The sub-floor is covered with waterproofing - roofing material, glassine or moisture-proof film. A layer of insulation is placed on the waterproofing. Expanded clay is suitable for him, which is filled up between the logs and is also covered with waterproofing. After that, you can start installing a clean floor. For it, tongue-and-groove boards made of coniferous wood are used. They are laid with grooves inside the room, since in the process of fitting them, you will need to tap with a rubber mallet on the end of the board, which has a groove, because the tongue is very thin and can break off.

The sequence of work on the installation of a clean floor is as follows:

  • Sanded boards are placed on the joists for fitting and marking. The age-old rings of the wood of the boards when laying them should be directed in opposite directions. After the end of the fitting, the piece material is numbered to comply with its sequence when fastening. This will eliminate additional sanding of the boards and the need to periodically adjust them to the desired size.
  • Laying the floor starts from the wall, maintaining a small gap of 3-5 mm for ventilation. Subsequently, it will be covered with a plinth. Nails are driven into the boards at an angle with their heads sunk into the body of the wood.
  • After laying and fixing the first board at a distance of 40-60 mm from its edge, staples are hammered into the timber, leaving a gap. A thin safety rail is installed in it. Then a wedge is driven between the rail and the bracket. In this process, the boards are closely pressed against each other, leaving no gaps. After fixing the elements, the brackets can be removed.
  • A couple of boards are laid again, they are pressed with a wedge and a rail and nailed to the logs. Each of the following boards is compacted with a mallet and then secured with nails. Incorrectly milled dowels can make it difficult to lay the material tightly. Sometimes the ends of the boards farthest from the wall are sawn off so that their lower part is slightly shorter than the upper one.
  • Difficulties often begin to arise when installing the last board. To facilitate its installation, you can level the top of the tongue with a planer. Then the board is glued and nailed closer to its edge. The appearance of the floor will not be affected: the nails will be covered with the baseboard.
  • Upon completion of the work, the joints of the flooring are polished. To eliminate drops and irregularities in the joints of the floor elements, roofing material or cardboard can be placed under the timber during the installation process. The gaps between the flooring and the wall are masked by bevels, fillets or skirting boards.
  • Due to the fact that the floor is not removable, a hole up to 100 mm in diameter can be left in the outer deck to ventilate the space between the clean and subfloor. A plastic pipe is inserted into it, which will provide an excellent hood.
