Grinding of a floor made of concrete, its purpose, methods and necessary equipment, characteristics of the material and the preparatory stage of work, technologies for processing and repairing a concrete floor. If the finished surface is not intended to be flooring, polishing the concrete floor can be done as a final sanding step. When using an abrasive with a grain size of 1500-3000 units, polishing creates an absolutely moisture-proof surface that has a mirror shine and is resistant to chemical reagents. This floor is extremely easy to clean.
Once the concrete floor has been sanded, the unpolished surface can be coated with polyurethane varnish. It is applied immediately after mechanical processing of concrete and cleaning from dust. The varnish should be applied in several layers using a roller or paint brush. The resulting surface will have a glossy effect.
Concrete floor repair by grinding
As a result of long-term operation of the coating, small potholes and cracks may appear on its surface for a number of reasons. In this case, it is necessary to immediately repair and grind the concrete floor with a grinder.
If a pothole is found, the damaged part of the coating must be cut out of the floor to a depth of 20 mm using a diamond-brazed stone disc. After cutting the edges of the problem area, its contents should be removed using a puncher or chisel. The resulting cavity must be freed from dust, primed with a penetrating compound and repaired with a repair mortar using a metal spatula.
After that, with a small rule or a rail, the embedding area should be aligned flush with the floor surface. After the repair mixture has set, the disc on the grinder must be changed to a bowl with abrasive spraying and the problem area must be carefully sanded. It can then be treated with a material identical to the base coat of the concrete floor. If a crack appears in the floor, it should be cut to a width of 100 mm with a grinder equipped with a stone disc. After that, the cavity must also be freed from fragments of concrete, dust, then primed and filled with a repair mortar containing quartz sand as a filler. When the mixture sags a little in the recess, it is worth laying a second layer of it and leveling it with a spatula. After polymerization of the composition, the place of the crack must be sanded with a grinder in the manner described above.
