Given the wide range of door insulation materials, it is often difficult to make a choice. But not every material is suitable for thermal insulation of a bath door. We will figure out how to independently insulate the door to the bathhouse and what material is better to use. Content:

When building a bath, some lovers forget that, in addition to the walls, floor and ceiling, the entrance door also needs to be insulated in the room. It is important to remember: no matter how diligently you insulate the walls and floor, if the door is not insulated, all your efforts to keep the heat in the bathhouse are in vain. In addition, from the fact that steam is present inside the room, and frost outside, the door itself suffers, and its service life is significantly reduced.
Material for insulating the door to the bath
Do-it-yourself bath door insulation is a short-lived process, and there are more benefits than you think. To begin with, discard the idea of insulating the doors of the bath with old rags, such as an unnecessary coat, a leaky blanket, and so on. This is not only useless, but also fire hazardous.
When buying material for thermal insulation of a door, remember that you are going to insulate the door for the bath, which means that you should pay attention to such points as fire resistance and vapor permeability.
Properties of the "correct" insulation for the doors to the bath:
- Light weight (so that the door does not deform and sag over time).
- The material should not absorb moisture.
- Vapor permeability (so that condensation does not form).
Ecowool, felt and energy flex can be a good material. Whichever material you choose, it is very important that it is treated with special fire-resistant agents.
Insulation of the door in the bathhouse should not be done with materials such as polyethylene foam and expanded polystyrene. Although these materials are cheap, it is because of them that condensation forms, because they do not allow steam to pass through. Then puddles appear under the door. And the door itself from this begins to rot and collapse.
Methods for insulating a door for a bath
When you have decided on the choice of material for insulating a bath door, you can get to work. Let's consider three main methods: using an energy flex, using a thermal curtain and by means of a frame. For an illustrative example, a photo of the insulation of the door to the bath will help you.
Using the energy flex
In the process of insulating a sauna door, you will need:
- Insulation from energoflex (insulation for pipes) - from 30 rubles per running meter;
- Construction stapler - from 15 thousand rubles apiece;
- Metal slats - from 200 rubles apiece.
The work process will take about 10 minutes. On the edge of the door we press the energy flex, securing it with a stapler. Make sure that the door closes and opens freely at the same time - do not press the energy flex too hard to the edges. To prevent the structure from disintegrating, we screw metal slats onto it. This will give it strength. Thanks to this method of insulation, you will protect the room from drafts.
Thermal insulation by the "frame" method
This method of insulating a door in a bathhouse is considered by experts to be the most reliable. Prepare this material:
- Insulation (ecowool - about 30 rubles per kilogram, felt - from 130 rubles per kilogram);
- Hardboard sheet - from 1 thousand rubles apiece;
- Bars (15-20 mm thick) - about 12 rubles apiece;
- Aluminum nails - about 250 rubles per package.
It will take about two hours to get to work. We carry out in the following sequence:
- We nail the frame of the bars onto the door. We carefully make sure that the border of the frame is at a distance of a quarter of the narthex from the borders of the canvas - this is approximately 1 cm and 15 mm.
- Then we nail the insulation onto the frame with nails. The insulation should be folded in half.
- Put a sheet of hardboard in the void that is inside the frame.
- If everything worked out correctly for you, then when the door is closed, part of the insulation lies on the door block - this completely prevents the penetration of cold air.
- We decorate the door as you wish.
This method of insulating the door to the bathhouse is one of the most reliable and proven.
Thermal curtain
It is worth noting that such a curtain cannot be used as a full-fledged and independent insulation for the door to a bathhouse, but it can be an excellent addition to insulation with a frame or with an energy flex.
You will need:
- Soft seal for the frame - about 40 rubles per meter;
- Nails - from 250 rubles per kilogram;
- Bars - about 12 rubles apiece;
- Tarpaulin - about 120 rubles per running meter;
- Decorative slats - about 10 rubles per running meter;
- Self-tapping screws - from 80 rubles per kilogram;
- Springs, hooks, elastic bands (for attaching the screen).
At the first stage of warming, we carry out the work in the following sequence: we create a sealing frame - for this we cut the seal into 4 strips, measure 2 cm from the edge of the door frame and nail the strips. At the same time, we make sure that our strips are located exactly in the direction of the door.
The second stage of thermal insulation is as follows. We take 4 bars and nail them to the door frame on top of the insulation. We wrap the bars with the same insulation, cutting off the excess and pressing the edges with cashing. Do a screen made of leatherette or tarpaulin. We turn off the fabric on the left and sew it along the entire height. Make sure that the 2x2x200 block fits into the lapel. When the fabric has been stitched, insert the block and fasten it. We attach the right side of the bar to the wall, at a distance of 10 cm from the cashing, and close the edge of the bar with a decorative strip. Sew rings to the upper edge.
At the third stage, you need to act like this:
- At a distance of the diameter of the rings, directly above the decorative rail, we wrap a self-tapping screw 60 mm long. We make sure that there is 20 mm left outside.
- We take a meter-long wire and attach it to the self-tapping screw.
- We stretch the wire through the rings of the screen and fix it with another self-tapping screw.
- We attach two springs to the left of the door in two different places.
- On the contrary, we sew the rings directly to the screen - this way we can move our screen to the right.
And finally, it is recommended to watch a video about the insulation of the door to the bathhouse:
[media = https://www.youtube.com/watch? v = N233cxHH5Iw] Insulating the door for a bath is not difficult and does not require expensive materials. But if your door for the bath is carefully insulated, you will forget what drafts in the bath are and keep the quality of the door itself for a long time.
