Henna face painting is a traditional oriental art called mehendi. Ornaments are applied with vegetable dye on the arms and legs, less often on the shoulders, abdomen or thighs. Images on the face are also popular.
Which drawing to choose?

The face is the part of the body that is immediately noticed. The murals on it immediately catch the eye and are severely criticized. Mehendi on the face should look perfect, otherwise it does not decorate, but spoils the image.
For eastern countries, facial drawings are less popular. But Europeans, who love extravagance, apply mehendi to the forehead, temples and even cheeks. The painting surprises and shocks others. But, depending on the chosen ornament, it can complement the created image.
As you can see in the photo, mehendi on the face requires a careful choice of ornament. Create a small, neat pattern, clearly following the contours of the facial oval. Images meet these requirements:
- Star … The pattern is applied to the forehead or temporal part of the face. The symbol means divinity, hope. Small neat stars, located along the temple and passing to the cheeks, look beautiful.
- Crescent … Space images and ornaments are popular for face painting. The crescent moon is often combined with the stars. The sign symbolizes unearthly feminine beauty.

How to dilute mehendi paint?
Since the skin on the face is thin and delicate, be careful about the choice of dye and its quality. In the East, drawings are applied with natural henna (crushed leaves of thornless lawsonia). In Europe, a composition with the addition of chemical components is found in salons. It is richer and brighter in shade, but sometimes causes an allergic reaction.
Ready-made henna for mehendi is sold in plastic tubes or cones. The paint in them does not require dilution: it is immediately squeezed onto the skin. But the consequences of the drawing are unpredictable: a rash appears, redness, irritation, dermatitis develops, and you have to consult a dermatologist.
Important! To avoid an allergic reaction to the dye, use natural henna infused at home.
Apply to the elbow skin before use to test the body's response. If there is no rash or irritation after 15-20 minutes, use mehendi paint.
Since ready-made compositions for mehendi are dangerous by the manifestation of an allergic reaction on the skin, it is better to make the dye completely from natural ingredients and not be afraid that dermatitis will have to be treated.
Henna is prepared in this way:
- Squeeze 50 ml of juice from 2 lemons. Strain so that there is no pulp in the liquid.
- Sift natural henna powder to remove large particles. This is necessary to obtain a homogeneous composition.
- Cover tightly with plastic and leave in a warm place for 12 hours.
- When the paint has settled, add 1 to 2 tsp. sugars and plant extracts or essential oils (eucalyptus, tea tree).
- Stir the paint and set it aside again in a warm place.
- After 12 hours, the composition is ready.
Important! If the procedure is carried out in the salon, be sure to check which dye is used to apply the pattern. To reduce the cost of the process, cosmetologists can use substandard mixtures.
