Herring with potatoes is a classic that is always delicious. Traditionally, for all holidays, they prepare a salad "Herring under a fur coat". It is certainly tasty and satisfying, but usually. If you are not afraid to experiment, then I suggest preparing a dish with an amazing taste - herring with onions, potatoes and pickles. And to do everything right, a recipe with a photo will help you, in which everything is painted step by step. The salad is prepared very quickly and easily. It doesn't require any culinary skills. It may be necessary to only peel and fillet the herring from the skills if you use whole herring to prepare the salad. The herring for the dish can be any salted. But if you don't know how to do this, then purchased pickled chopped herring fillets will do.
Use regular onions for the salad, although you can use blue or white if you wish. Use non-boiling potatoes so that they keep their shape well when cutting and do not fall into pieces. And instead of pickles, pickled cucumbers, and even fresh ones, are suitable. Add a sour apple to the salad to make the salad tastier and give it an amazing taste.

Ingredients:
- Herring - 1 pc.
- Pickled cucumbers - 2 pcs.
- Vegetable oil - for dressing
- Salt - 1 tsp for boiling potatoes
- Onions - 1 pc.
- Potatoes - 2 pcs.
Step by step cooking herring with onions, potatoes and pickles, recipe with photo:
1. Peel the onions, wash and chop into thin half rings. If you wish, you can marinate it in table vinegar and sugar.
2. Peel the herring from the film, cut the belly and carefully remove the insides.
3. Divide the fish into fillets and remove the pitted ridge.
4. Wash the fish under cold running water and pat dry with a paper towel. Remove the black film from the inside of the abdomen and cut the herring into 1 cm thick pieces.
5. Remove the cucumbers from the brine and cut them lengthwise into 4-6 pieces, depending on the size of the gherkins.
6. Wash the potatoes, put them in a cooking pot, fill them with drinking water and place them on the stove. After boiling, reduce heat to low and continue cooking for half an hour until soft. Season it with salt 10 minutes before cooking. Remember that salt will help cook the potatoes. Therefore, it should not be added to the pot at the start of cooking. When the tubers are ready, remove them from the water and cut into 4-6 pieces. They can be peeled or served with the skin if they are young, thin-skinned potatoes.
7. Place the onions on a serving plate.
8. Put the herring on the onion and sprinkle it with vegetable oil.
9. Add cucumbers and potatoes to the fish and serve the finished dish to the table. Herring with onions, potatoes and pickles can be served in this form, or the products can be finely chopped, combined and mixed.
