In Brazil, as well as other countries in South America, there is a strong demand for bakuri fruits, which are widely used in many traditional dishes. For example, a fruit compote is also prepared here, but together with platonia, it includes cashew nuts and seasonal fruits ripening at the same time.

Platonia seeds are not thrown away, but collected and subjected to special processing in order to obtain a nutritious and revitalizing oil. Sometimes, before obtaining oil from bakuri seeds, they are allowed to lie down for about a year, soaking in water or igniting over a fire. Platonia oil is used not only in folk medicine and for the preparation of cosmetics, it is also extremely useful in the treatment of pets.

The yellowish wood of Platonia wood is used for construction, furniture, various crafts and interior decoration items.

On average, a Platonia tree produces up to 400 fruits per year. It is easy to cultivate, since the species is undemanding to soil parameters and can reproduce by grafting. The peculiarity of the tree lies in its ornithophilic nature. In natural nature, a special species of birds is involved in pollination of its flowers - yellow-headed white-bellied parrots, feeding on Platonia nectar.

In its native territory, the fruit is regularly used by the indigenous people. Even clearing forest land for pasture or agriculture, they allow this tree to remain intact.

When harvesting, fallen fruits are also considered "marketable" if their skins are intact. Bakuri is stored much better than other tropical fruits (about 5-10 days if not refrigerated), due to which they can be transported over relatively long distances.
