Learn what silicone eye pads are, how to use them, and why you should choose them. Eyelash extensions are challenging but rewarding. If you have already decided on extensions, you need to properly prepare and purchase all the necessary materials: from eyelashes to silicone pads. The main thing when buying materials is not to chase the cheapness of the goods, because the quality will be correspondingly low.
How to choose the right eyelash extension?
Before we move on to choosing silicone pads, we need to carefully consider and understand which lashes will work best. Your further image depends on this choice. Next, we will consider several criteria that you should pay attention to when choosing eyelashes for extension:
- Eyelash material. All extension eyelashes are made from monofilament. If you ever hear an offer to buy silk, ostrich, mink and sable eyelashes, smile and never buy them. Those do not exist. The quality of the fiber of the eyelashes depends on the content of silicone, which in turn directly affects their elasticity.
- Eyelash length. There is no length less than five or more than eighteen millimeters. The standard for conventional build-up is 8-12 millimeters. The longest lashes are used for layered, bold and creative extensions, too short for the lower lashes, as well as for the inner corner of the eye.
- Thickness. This criterion should be considered based on the reason for the build-up. If you are trying to achieve the most natural effect, then a thickness of 0.15 millimeters is suitable. 0.2 mm - the effect of painted eyelashes, 0.25 - super-volume. Experienced modern craftsmen combine different thicknesses for an unrivaled result.
- Fold. To correct the shape of the look, the extended eyelashes are given a certain fold (curl). For eyes of our type, eyelashes with a fold of type "C" and "B" are suitable.
What are silicone pads?
Silicone pads are disposable devices (applicators) that are used during extensions to comfortably close the lower eyelashes. The composition of the silicone linings is collagen. If you, I am the proud owner of hard lower eyelashes, then these applicators are simply necessary for you, they securely and thoroughly fix the eyelashes. Typically there is one pair of pads in one package. Professional pads are only those that are basically made of silicone, hydrogel or collagen. They come off easily. Therefore, they do not bring any negative sensations. If the shape of the eye does not fit the shape of the pads, it can be corrected with scissors, trimming the edges a little.
How to use silicone pads?
When setting them, hold the edges with two fingers, at this time follow the roots of the lower lashes. Often, the lining is lifted towards the mucous membrane when you close your eyes. After closing the eye completely, you should carefully check if the lining has gone under the upper eyelid, and also if it touches the mucous membrane.
If you have closed your eyes and the pads are not perfect, you need to lift the outer edge towards you. Then place the pad in the correct place. Do not be afraid to hurt because you will not feel any negative sensations. Feel free to do the manipulations that you need.
Silicone pads or tape?
Every eyelash extension artist faces this dilemma. If you extend your own eyelashes at home, you should also know which choice is best to make:
- Scotch tape is suitable only for experienced craftsmen who are confident in their hands. The fact is that when removing it, especially if you inadvertently touch the tape, there is a high probability of tearing out the lower eyelashes, which is not only offensive, but also painfully unpleasant. In general, the tape is very convenient to use.
- Silicone pads are considered to be of higher quality and, of course, they are more expensive. The advantage is that they can be easily removed from the eyes, and they are also very easy to fix in the position you want. At the same time, collagen and silicone nourish the skin of the lower eyelid, moisturize and fight wrinkles while the eyelash extension procedure is in progress.
Another little secret. Since the pads are long enough, you can cut them in half for significant savings.
