Finishing the door opening with plasterboard

The classic arch has a constant radius arc. An elliptical arch can be obtained by increasing the radius of the sector in the perpendicular direction relative to the opening. This shape of the vault fits well into a modern interior. For the Gothic style, arches with a high connection point of planes are suitable, and a rectangular arch with rounded corners has a more romantic style.
When choosing a certain type of vault, you need to take into account the style of the room, the characteristics of the materials used for finishing and the specifics of the room.
After choosing the height, style and type of arch, you need to draw it to scale on paper, and then, based on the drawing, make a full-size template. Then it should be transferred to two halves of a drywall sheet, circle with a pencil and cut out the excess parts along the lines. A half of the gypsum board with a cut out semicircle will serve as the front part of the future arch. There should be two such parts - one on each side of the opening.
After that, you need to install a metal U-shaped profile in the opening. Its length and shape are matched to the template. To bend the profile with an arc, its shelves should be cut with metal scissors every 10 cm.
When the arcuate profiles are anchored in the opening, you need to think about the bottom of the arch that forms the vault. It will require a thinner ceiling plasterboard that can be bent along the lines of the opening profiles or template. The bending of a strip of gypsum plasterboard is carried out using a special needle roller.
Before this procedure, the strip should be moistened abundantly with water and rolled with a spiked roller. After softening the part, it must be carefully bent and left to dry for 10 hours.
At the next stage of work, all three parts of the arch should be fixed with self-tapping screws on a frame made of metal profiles. After the installation of the arch is completed, all the joints of the sheets and the grooves of the screws must be sealed with gypsum putty, actively using a serpentine tape to reinforce the joints. Then the entire structure should be putty, and after the mixture has dried, it should be sanded with sandpaper.
Now everything, the arch is ready for finishing. It can be veneered, painted, decorative plaster can be applied to it, covered with stucco, etc.
Decorating the opening with decorative stone
Decorating the entrance with decorative stone is especially popular. And this is not without reason: the material is one of the most stylish in the area of opening decor, giving the room an exquisite atmosphere. Decorative stone has an excellent external effect, it is extremely durable, goes well with many types of finishes and is easy to maintain.
When decorating an arch, stones are laid in an arc in the upper part of the opening to highlight the geometric shape of the decoration, which makes it more noticeable against the general background of the wall.
When making an opening that does not have a door, the stone is laid on both sides of the opening. This decor option makes it possible to optimally fit it into the interior and combine two adjacent rooms with one common space. At the same time, the inner walls of the opening should also be in stone, so as not to go out of the general style and not create dissonance in the interior.
For the interior of a country-style room, when decorating the opening, you should use a large stone that can create the effect of entering a cave. This arch looks great in the hallway. For an opening with solid dimensions, the use of chipped stone is appropriate - it will add grandeur and special refinement to the room. In order to make stone cladding, you first need to prepare piece products for it. The necessary trimming can be done with a grinder. Then a special mesh should be fixed on the surface of the walls of the opening and a solution should be applied to it. The thickness of its layer should not be more than 15 mm.
After that, the stone is laid. First, the corner elements are installed, and then all the main ones. At the end of the cladding, the joints between the stones must be filled with cement mortar, and then they must be leveled. After the mixture has dried, the joints should be smoothed out and this is the end of the work. After 48 hours, the binder will completely harden and gain strength.

As already mentioned, this decor helps to beautifully mask the entrance opening of the room. The most suitable in this respect are textile curtains. When choosing them, you need to take into account the style of the room, the color of the carpet and upholstery of upholstered furniture.
The shape of the curtains is chosen depending on the artistic taste of the home owner. They can be symmetrical on both sides, asymmetrical or stuck on either side. Most often, a rectangular entrance is made out with curtains.
Adherents of the oriental style can recommend bamboo curtains. They perfectly hide the opening from prying eyes and emphasize the special charm of the room.
